Not that I know the full details, or am necessarily defending his actions, Walks did give a reasonable excuse as to why he drove while suspended.

How many of us would assume that a licence suspension is effective immediately, regardless of a court hearing? I don't think it's an unreasonable assumption that you can continue to drive until the court hearing and the suspension is finalised.

he had been done for the same thing before though hadn't he? Therefore he would have known that you don't get a letter reminding you of when the suspension starts.

didn't learn from it the first time (if I read the article correctly),

at least he wasn't drink driving though, or speeding while suspended - now that would have been ordinary

Driving to court while suspended !

Classic Walker.

I take all that back. Should have read the story as he probably wasnt suspended at the time of going to court.

Sorry people.

don't get me started on......."road rules" either......................!

Hit the nail on the head there tommi.

Driving a car whilst being suspended is stupid, but I'm sure we all know someone who's done it and/or probably worse.

Let's put it in perspective: was there any accident? was anyone injured? was he driving under the influence? did he break any road rules? (apart from the obvious!) was there any additional threat to others on the road due to him having a suspended licence? I would say no to all of the above. The fact that his licence was only suspended for 28 days the first time (obviously only too many demerit points) and then still only 2 months the second time speaks volumes to me.

I know some very good drivers who are stupid people because they always sit 5 km/h over the speed limit and get nabbed by speed cameras, lose all their points, and get their licence suspended. I also know plenty of really bad drivers whom I won't get into the car with as they literally don't know the road rules, but because they don't ever speed they have an impeccable driving record and think that their shit doesn't stink when it comes to driving.

Andy is obviously still pretty young and bound to do some stupid things on the road, but it's hardly something that should be referred to as a serious driving offence. If he was charged with drink driving or dangerous driving or any other serious traffic offense then it would be different, but have a little perspective and cut the kid some slack for flower sake!!

While I may not disagree with your basic premise, the "yeah but plenty of others have done it" defence is the lamest response going around. Fair dinkum!

He's a kid, he made a mistake, he has been punished appropriately.

Completely separate argument.

Speeding fines are as much about revenue as they are about safety.
