Cons

Some times a long kick over the play is the best option

First option

Guys were free up the field but we were more interested in keeping possession which meant North were able to get numbers back

We need to improve our skills Players need to back themselves

Too slow. North were a lot quicker

Thornton . In todays footy it isnt enough for a defender to just defend

You have to run and kick it forwards. Has anyone seen Thornton kick over 45m. Simply not good enough.

Pros

Hopefully Ratten may now try some youngsters in the last 2 games

Pros:-

Not much really. Fevola (jesus i hope he gets the 100)......... Kreuzers 2nd efforts............. err, that's about it! :-(

Cons:-

Umps - shithouse.

Hit-outs - ok, when your leading ruckman (cloke) is averaging just 10 hit-outs a game and your up & Coming star (Hampson) is averaging about 8 (but never go to our advantage) then CLEARLY something should be done about our ruckwork........... but nothing ever is. Biggest CON of the season IMHO. Jacobs, Aisakie,.........give em a go!

Ratts - Sorry Ratts, love ya, but that was some of your poorest work to date. Just did not have any answers.

Need Setanta - say what you want about him...........but it is clear that he is needed in this side.

Look at a ruck coach and there is your probable reason for it being sooo bad.

Matthew Kruzer... this kid will be a superstar! He plays the percentages and does the simple stuff well.

Murphy - kept trying all game... is becoming a very consistent player

Cons:

- Why the &*^&* do we handball up high in the air to blokes running flat stick forcing them to slow down or stop, which gives the opponents a chance to tackle them.... pathetic. And if its not up in the air its down at their feet... basic stuff like that makes me filthy

- Field kicking in general.... very poor

- We cant stop tall blokes when pushed deep forward... Hale is an average player at best..... and he destroyed us

- Umpiring against Fev.... he gets absolutely r*ped and doesnt get a free.... when he shows any sort of emotion he gets 50 against him. More and more of these show pony umpires just want the attention that Vozzo is a smarta$$ talking to Fev... just umpire the game you germ... i dont blame Fev for his anger at times!

- Kicking into the forward line... have to hit the free bloke up... and in turn the blokes whos man who left them to double team Fev need to get themselves in a useful position to be seen and used.

- Our centre clearances are disgraceful.... i only remember one clear tap by Kruzer straight to someone ( i think Stevens ) and we had a clear run out of the centre... we get killed in the RUCK! Surely thats a priority over the off season!

I think Hampson did okay. He's a big unit and competes well for his age and experience.

Fisher is either injured or finished. I reckon if he can have a big pre-season in the gym and some kicking practice, he could be an important part of 2009. Don't give up on him.

Armfield was a positive but I can't see the point in persisting with Browne. Isn't experienced enough yet to restrict his oposition.

Why we leave out our best tackler and one of the best stoppage players still has me mystified :? .

We picked Saddington  and left him on Hale after it was clear he was going to cop a bath    .

Contested marks were 18 to 7 in Norf's favour, highlighting our lack of marking options.

Well said H43. Lollipop passes by hand and foot is not acceptable at this level.

We have to speed things up not slow things doen and lollipop (hospital-like) just slows everything down, of which most of all, reduces opportunity, by putting our players under pressure from the opposition closing them down.

I agree - he should not have been there at all.

Why didn't we have Walker in the forward 50 - last week we played multiple options, but this week, we are back to fev only

Fevs accuracy

CONS:
Fevs attitude- could of had 4 more if he didn't give the umpires so much lip, it shouldn't matter as a free is a free but as they said on tv 50-50 decisions turn into 40-60 and even 10-90 as it did on the weekend.
MC/Ratts- just because we beat a crap team by 10 goals soesn't mean we cant alter the team. Saddo got absolutely smashed, yes he was against a much taller oppenent but he was no where near the contest majority of the time. Armfield got killed for half the match before trying someone else.
Our HF line- DONT HAVE ONE!!!! we would of been better of playing with 20 blokes and dropping Russell and Fisher.
Speed- one week we burn off the opposition the next we can't be within 10m of them.
Unmanned opponents in the forward 50- their shouldn't be, alot of lazy players not following/keeping up or willing to cover someone elses man.
Umpires- Judd and Fev got held on too/rag dolled all day for very few frees, it can't be that hard to see.

Why not play all the newby's/kids now, bring in Hads, Bower, Austin, Ando, Pfieffer and possibly even Aisake, Jacobs or Joseph if we can.

I loved the little highlight of Wiggins coming off the forward line to provide a block which enabled a lovely centre clearance. He’s a tough nut.

CONS:

Seeing Wiggo and Tex in the back line. They've looked dangerous up forward to date and just got shown up yesterday. Now I know Ratts has a plan B: he found the napkin that Pagan's plan A was written on.

Scotto walking around with hands on hips while a NM player ran past not 5m from him. He didn't even know there was a game on until the player was past him, then woke up. Possibly the worst effort I've seen all year.

Fisher is a dud.

There was a pass to a Fisher lead in the 3rd quarter that appeared to be hitting him on the chest. Seemed like he managed to make it drop metres short, and his attempt to take the half volley was awful, my nanna would have got down lower. He moves like an old woman.

What position does your nana play NBH and can she kick from outside 50?

From reading some of the posts in this thread anyone would think the sky is falling and all hope is lost for the Blues. Some perspective would help!

North are the form team of the top 8. They have won the last five or so games in a row and with the exception of Geelong have been the most impressive team in the 8 over the past month or so. They are a well drilled team that plays good team orientated footy and have been underrated by most teams this season to their peril. IMO they are clearly a top 4 team and will give Geelong a scare for the premiership.

With that in mind, this game was always going to be an uphill battle. The fact of the matter is that the Blues are not a top 8 team this season. Any chance that we in fact did slip into the top eight and play finals would have been a false dawn. We are simply not good enough...... YET.

What gets me is the number of ridiculous comments about how the team played. I know it was a bad performance, but seriously if you put things in perspective, the result was not really that surprising.

At any rate, I never expected the team to do as well as we have this season. People seem to sometimes forgot about where this team was at one, two, three years ago. All things considered the Blues have shown remarkable improvement this season. The fact we cannot beat a good team like North shows where our development is at. Of course there are a number of things which need to be improved and addressed, but in general the Blues are on the up.

In summary, be dissapointed about the result, but remember how much more upside the mighty Blues have to come, especially next season.....

Fev tried hard being triple teamed but really needs to keep his mouth shut.
Waitey played really well but found the going tough doing his usual rebound.
My Smurph - kept trying and can't fault his intent [like I would]
Krooz - a great kid that is going to be an absolute gun in years to come.

Cons
No midfield pressure
No forward line set up - they had so many players behind the ball, it was embarrassing that none of players were within cooee of them.
Backline with Saddington and minus Setanta looked bloody tiny and Saddo has clearly played his last game for the Blues.

We seemed to go on the offensive too easily from second qtr onwards. Frustrating to watch and disappointed that we capitulated so easily.

I feel so sorry for Fev, he gets scragged, held and chopped illegally by his opponent every week - (also has about 5 against him).
Countless times the umpires ignored blatant frees, it reflects very poorly upon the umpires.

If the holding that happens to Fev was to happen to David Hale or Matthew Lloyd  they would receive the free every time.

It is petty and unprofessional for the umpires to constantly CHEAT and ignore illegal activity against Fevola because they don't like him. Fevola has every right to go nuts at the umps because they stiff him every week. If the umpires want respect they should earn it by doing their job properly - the way everyone else does.

I feel like getting a comparison tape between what happens with him and other players and send it into geish - but they wouldn't look at it.

Umpires are supposed to regulate the game on an unbiase basis.

LOL!

Its a good point you make DB - Ratts is barely out of nappies when it comes to the coaching gig....

The Blues season is even more impressive when you consider that as well :)

Once their midfield started getting on top of us, Laidley got his HFFs to start very deep near the goalsquare, which meant when their midfielders cleared the ball from the centre they could stroll through HF because we had no defenders there (because they had all been dragged to the goal square). That's why they scored so easily from clearances. We did alright early because Judd had some crucial touches in close, but once his impact in the square was minimalised we just didn't have enough people winning the hard ball in the centre. This is where a Stevens (or Scotland) type needs to stand up in the middle when Judd isn't getting clearances. And it's probably the reason we are after Kerr.

Speaking of Stevens, his dropped mark was a bad sign I thought. He took forever to pick himself up off the canvass, it was poor body language by Stevo - he sort of threw in the towel and it signified the afternoon was over for us. He is a lovely user of the ball by foot, but he really needs to toughen up not just physically but also mentally. When things don't Judd's his way Judd just gets on with it, whereas Stevens sulks and looks despondent. And I think we also learned a bit about Scotland yesterday. If Stevens is guilty of not stepping up enough when Judd is down, then Scotland is guilty of just not being anywhere near the level required from an experienced midfielder. No wonder he usually plays down back and never gets tagged. I'd sooner have Daniel Harris than heath Scotland.

I also want to know why we allowed Harvey to start at HB unmanned. There were a number of occassions where he was able to run off HB at the centre bounce, and then receive the ball from the likes of Simpson, Harris and Rawlings once they had won the clearance. Letting Harvey start unmanned like that was just textbook stuff. And putting young Armfield on him was simply asking for trouble. And then there's Saddington on Hale. He should have been taken off him much sooner than he was. Why not put a Hampson or Kreuzer onto Hale? They were the only ones who could match his size, and they need to learn to play defensive at some stage. Not doing this was tantamount to conceding the game such was Hale's influence on proceedings.

Puzzled by some of Ratten's decisions and not sure we're good enough to justify trading away the home for Daniel Kerr. He would be a really good shot in the arm for our overrated midfield and I'd argue all the way we need him, but I'm worried we maybe still need to get some more quality kids into our list. We have a lot of players with dubious kicking - Walker, Fisher, Simpson, Armfield to name but a few. North fans feel confident when Corey Jones has a set shot whereas we have our hearts in our mouths whenever Fisher lines up for goal. Premierships are won by sides that have precise field kicking, and I think a lot of our players are overrated in this department. Simpson's kicking is overrated.

So send a copy to AFL House, and one to your favourite 2 or 3 footy writers, explaining what you have done, and maybe something will get done about it because hopefully The Giesch will be scared by the prospect of a negative article.

No point in doing it before Feb 2009, as the season's shot. See if something can be achieved for season 09.

Make up a comparison, round by round, of all 22 matches, rather than just a few specific examples. You've got to back up hunches with hard facts.
