Would you care to elaborate how he has done "clearly better"?

Not sure why Sheehan cops a bad rap. While I don't always agree with his articles, I can't recall one based on innuendo or where he has pulled it completely out of his a hole...

I guess it's because he never really breaks any news, or writes anything other than the common concensus/stating the obvious sort of stuff.

So Mike reports the news rather than rakes the muck?  How dare he!!!

Ratten has taken a team that has been bottom 2 for the past three years to the verge of finals in his first year in the job.

Essendon* have performed poorly without Lucas - what a luxury for a first year coach when Lucas is up and running having two experienced key forwards.

Not every opinion is printed in Australia's biggest newspaper and preserved for all eternity within the interweb of Australia's largest news network. Mike's 30-odd years of journalism earn him the 'trusted opinion' or 'authoritative voice' tag which pretty much means that his word is gospel.

Nothing wrong with what Mike wrote, and I agree 100% with the rest of what you said, but to bundle Mike's opinion up with that of the common man is to underestimate the power of the media.

Maybe i think you over-estimate the power of Mike's opinion. :P

Who will they replace these blokes with in the next year or two? Johns is gone.

I think what he's saying is that Essendon*'s players are flowered and that it's a miracle they've won any games at all this year.

So with that theory in mind, Knights has done well.

Beause he's taken a team of washed up hacks whose best is 3 seasons behind them, and a bunch of nobodies who most people expected to finish last, and in spite of having a horrific run on injuries in the first half of the season, has them sitting a mere win below us.

If you compare that with what Ratten has had available to him this season, I think Knights has done clearly better.

That doesn't mean that he will be a better coach, or that Essendon* has a brigher future. Quite the contrary.

Meanwhile Essendon* fans reckon Ratten is a genius for guiding our team of washed up hacks (Stevens - weak, injured; Judd - best is behind him; Fevola - 27 and groin problems) and a bunch of nobodies (Houliwho? Carrazzawah?) who eveyone expected to come second last this year, and in spite of having such an horrific list, Ratten has them sitting a mere game outside the eight.

The question posed before the season was which coach you would rather be, not, who will be the best coach. Most went for Ratts because of the cattle he had and that almost guaranteed him improvement. I think they all thought that at the end of their resepective tenures, Ratts would have had the most success and I think that's still true.

Knights has done very well for a team of average footballers. Ratten has done well with a team of young early draft picks.

I think Mike is on the money. Most expected Essendon* to finish last year and they didn't. Lets hope it was the year they were meant to bottom out but everyone played above themselves.
