I'd run out on the ground if I played for Carlton, otherwise they'd be a man short................

Has a player ever been injured as a result of the 100 goal rush?

Alderman doesn't count. He foolishly tackled a bloke and busted his shoulder, and it was cricket anyway.

Matthew Lloyd said the other night that it is pretty frightening when the crowd envelops you; and you don't quite know what to expect.

He said that the genuine supporters just want to pat you on the back.....but they end up just giving you very bad bruising by sheer weight of numbers and their weight.

And then there are the opposition supporters who let you know what they think of you up close.

Doesn't sound like a lot of fun to me.

Sounds very frightening. That bruising would put mot players out for up to six weeks.

Lloyd also said it was fun seeing some of his mates from junior footy days right near him celebrating his 100th goal.

If Fev kicks his 100 at the Gabba, it will be the perfect opportunity to stock up on beer.

Ok, if we sanction ground invasions, where do we draw the line?
I recall a GF in Tassie, where a free kick was paid in the last few seconds of the game. As the player lined up his shot at goal, which would have won the flag if he was successful, the opposition fans invaded the ground and pulled down the goal posts. Result? No bloody result!!!
Supporters, no matter how enthusiastic have their place, and that's behind the fence.
Enjoy the game, just don't interfere with it.

What say we agree that those who want to run on the ground to congratulate Fev should be able to do so and those that think it's wrong, should run out and protect Fev from the 'bruisers'. :-D

Personally I couldn't care either way. I wouldn't run out myself, not interested, but if others want to then it's just one of those things.

I've never heard of any player getting injured as a result of the 100 goal rush. Has it ever happened?

No it hasn't, and that's my point.

Those against it don't have any references to draw on in order to paint a bad light upon the issue. So then resort to calling the people who would wish to celebrate Fev kicking his ton names - there have been thousands that have done it in the past, now suddenly (and without issue) it is a problem.

Doesn't make sense to me...

I think it comes back to the whole paranoid culture that has been built upon our society of the last half dozen years or so..

It's the same as them stopping kicking the ball on the ground after the siren.. I dont see the big problem, our game has become way too sanitised, there has been no prior incidents in the past...

Sparky is entitled to his opinion.. Personally i'm indifferent on the matter but i do believe we are getting more and more paranoid as a society and with the 100goals being such a rare feat these days, why the need to get rid of 1 of the last great traditions in our game!?
