Yes....Mike Sheahan thinks Matty Knights is doing a bit better than Ratts in the new Coach dept.

And Mike would know who the better coach is because?

Sheahan doesn't rank Knights above Ratten, but says an argument could be mounted for the case.

If we were being objective (perish the thought), let's look at the cattle each respective coach has at his disposal, and I think it would be easy to argue Knights has been more impressive.

Yes, Ratten's been impressive, but so has Knights. I had Essendon* as certainties for last this season.

Who gives a shit!

Knights has been good, Ratten has been good. End it there!

I hate these 'Gibbs is better than Selwood', 'Selwood is better than Judd', 'Judd is better than Jesus' crap articles.

Each and everyday, the football media is becoming more and more like bigfooty.com.
Shit, i wouldn't be surprised if that's where they got most of their ideas from. And their sources too!

Just on Ratts, i have been very happy with him. He changed a few things that weren't working early on and i love that. Pagan would have been too stuborn to change anything.......But Ratts, like our kids, is learning with each game and i seriously see him as a better than good chance at being a long term coach.

I only submitted the story to give us a chance to bag the press as they have done to us for years.....including the attacks on Richard Pratt this year.

In the actual Print article.....Sheahan gives Knights and Ratten both a B plus, but he added that Knights is "most impressive".

I think Ratts has been "most impressive" both on and off the field.

QFT, just something to get the lowest common denominator interested in so they can sell papers.

There was merit to the article given the number of new coaches this season but it probably should have been written by someone who knows what it takes to be a good coach.

Mike writes these as an opinion piece...therefore he is entitled to an opinion.

The article starts off discussing an article from pre-season where football writers were asked to name which of the new coaches they would rather be.

Knights didn't get a vote.

Now that the season is nearly over I think it is fair to say that that opinion would be changed.

Knights may not be getting many votes today. Adelaide giving them a touch up!

I must say that Mike Sheahan did play 160 plus games for Werribee in the old VFA.....he has played the game at a Senior level.

Knights has clearly done better than Ratten with the players he has available. There's nothing to argue.

Of course even Pagan squeezed out 10 wins in his first seasons with the Blues, so neither coach's achievement counts for much at this point if we're being honest about it.

At least it's been something slightly different to the norm for us to debate.

Not every opinion is printed in Australia's biggest newspaper and preserved for all eternity within the interweb of Australia's largest news network. Mike's 30-odd years of journalism earn him the 'trusted opinion' or 'authoritative voice' tag which pretty much means that his word is gospel.

Nothing wrong with what Mike wrote, and I agree 100% with the rest of what you said, but to bundle Mike's opinion up with that of the common man is to underestimate the power of the media.

Not sure why Sheehan cops a bad rap. While I don't always agree with his articles, I can't recall one based on innuendo or where he has pulled it completely out of his a hole...

I guess it's because he never really breaks any news, or writes anything other than the common concensus/stating the obvious sort of stuff.
