I was just thinking that. It's such a tease.

A long, drawn out tease..................

I'd like to see Gibbs on Harvey, Grigg on Wells, Armfield on Campbell and maybe Browne on Thomas.

I went the Filth v Roos game a few weeks ago with a couple of mates and Malthouse went the shootout option of Pendlebury on Harvey. They didn't go within 100m of each other and it was clear that this was always going to end up with Harvey in the votes. I can see Gibbsy really hurting Harvey for his lack of accountability while restricting him in the process as he has done for the last month or two.

What really impressed me about the Roos was their backline though. Firrito, Pratt and Gibson were surprisingly good as I hadn't watched much of the them in recent times. They back themselves running off the forwards to get the extra number to the contest at all times.

I'm really looking forward to this game. They're the most in form side we've played since Geelong so it'll be a good gauge of how far we've come.

The other thing I noticed was that when the Roos would have a mark on the HBF and the play was quite stagnant they would hold the ball in the air (a la our tempo signal) but instead of going tempo they would use this to isolate Petrie on the wing where they would kick long to him. Petrie had a field day on Bryan and Wood and completely dominated the game.

He does loom as a tough match up for us. Fingers crossed that Cloke, Hammer and Kreuze can limit his impact.

If Petrie goes rampant on the wing as the ball is coming from their backline, play Waitey on him.

Good point and Id hope this is something our paying group is looking to implement. Its the same with tackling and how thats changing (grabbing the arms and pinning etc)

I dont think that our boys are well drilled enough in the set plays that we are trying at the moment. BUT sure I can see them chopping and changing how they go about it as you say on the field real time.

A question:

If you were an opposition coach which would you be most concerned about?

A fwd line of:

Fev, Kruezer, Betts, Walker, Houlihan or

Fev, Kruezer, Betts, Fisher, Russell.

Plus add the possibility of Hadley, Waite, Wiggins & some draft picks or trades (McKinley/Murphy/Boyle?).

We generally rotate between a 4 and 5 man fwd line.

For me in order they would be: Fev, Kruezer, Waite, Walker, Betts, Wiggins, Hadley, Houlihan, Fisher, Russell.

That is not including Hartlett & Edwards who appear way off at this point.

Can't fit them all in! :-D

Hadley and Houlihan will increase pressure for spots no doubt, and that's gotta be good, but at the moment Fish, Wiggo and JR are the best we've got.
We've got the best FF in the comp, Betts is more than handy and we've got a midfield capable of kicking plenty of goals so as long as JR and Wiggo keep up the defensive pressure and Fish keeps grabbing 8 or 10 marks a game we'll be OK.

Thats my point. To go forward we cannot have players that fill just one role. Fisher and Russell are be given every opportunity to prove themselves. The issue for me is they do not do enough. These days to be a top side you cannot have a player doing just one thing. Look at Geelong and Hawthorns forward lines. Their players kick goals, can defend and are mobile. Even taggers these days need to get the ball themselves.

For Russell and Fisher to stay and be part of our improving forward line they need to kick & assist goals, be defensively strong and win the ball in the air and on the ground.

Imagine with our midfield dominance and developing defence if we had an efficient forward line (and a ruckman)?

Can we please make some sort of attempt to shut down Shannon Grant this year?So sick of him having a field day against us.He has been in patchy form this year but like Milne,Medhurst,Farmer,Brad Green and any small forward for that matter, saves his best for us. Its time for Denis Armfield.

Harvey would drag Gibbs straight to full back.
We should be proactive and leave him where he does his best work, in the middle.
I'd expect Armfield or Grigg to get a crack at the diver. Carrots to Grant.

Put Army or Browne on the little swine if he goes forward. Let Bryce show him up when he's on the ball.

FWIW, since we lost to Crows in a tight game a few weeks ago, they have belted both Tiges and Bombers in consecutive weeks.

Pretty fair indicator that we are a "form" team at the moment. Bring on the Roos!

Is what I've been saying, BC - we're a top8 side, having lost to the Swines by two rushed behinds, then to the Cows by 2 kicks ... it's just that we've found our form at the wrong end of the season .. if we maintain that form, though, we could win tomorrow

Could, I say ...

We can't click our fingers and get the best players in Australia to fill positions where we're deficient, so we need to use the players we have to their maximum potential.
In two years we will have a top class midfield fed by the best ruck combination in the country, a solid defence and the best full forward in the country.
That's enough to win a premiership in my opinion, and if Fish, Wiggo and JR are still our half forward line by then I'm sure they'll play their part in No 17.

Can't agree.

If all three are in the side in two years we will not win a premiership. Look at Geelong now, no real aknesses, to win in two years we will have to be better than what they are now. We can't be with those three in the side. One maybe but not three. If they are all in that means Hadley, Walker, Kruezer, Houlihan etc. have gone backwards. Puts to much pressure on the other players and makes it easier for sides to shut us down.

Hey Cazz, instead of just taking cheap potshots how about putting some insight forward! I would prefer to read some honest discussion than that crap.
