One good thing is that we know Ratten won't be sitting on the North board this time next year.

The real question is why do they play above their ability?

Better team spirit?

Better group cohesion?

Fighting spirit?

Not sure what it is, but if we can beat North it will be the BEST win of the season - without a doubt.

They have humiliated Carlton over the last 5-6 years more than any other team. Control Harvey - maybe Walker can run with him - and it will help a lot.

We need to control Harvey, Grant, Hale, Firrito. Beyond that, they're not really much better than B+ players.

I think the team to really humiliate us regularly over the last 5-6 years has been Sydney, followed by St Kilda, then North.

I just want a win.

One point, one goal, whatever.

Love that attitude!

And hope the Dogs back up today's shocker by flogging the Lions by 8 goals.

a huge key to beating north apart from stopping that cheating little diving turd Harvey, is to make Petrie accountable across the backline. If he is left to his own devices drifting back he will have a field day in front of fevola. must make him accountable. if it means having a 7 man forward line then so be it. if he then zones off his man, then we need to use that player as much as possible. if he is left loose and/or not made accountable, we will pay the price.

Thought the exact same thing. He saves his best for us also. Cut Petrie out & North are a very different side.

Waitey?

We owe both him & them big time. 161 to 79 last time, with Petrie kicking 4.

Hopefully Channel 7 doesn't bow to pressure for this Sundays game...

Let's hope Shannon Grant takes another dump in the hole during a sponsors event this week.
The Harvey match up is ctitical.
Any team with small forwards always seems to 'enjoy' our defence.

the match up for brent harvey will be the interesting one, i hope ratten does not go with gibbs and just lets bryce play the attacking style of game he did on the weekend.

carazzo or grigg for mine for this role.

this is the biggest game for the blues in a while, tipping we will see the same old quote from the coach at some stage during the week.

People whinging about not getting to see the rhythmic gymnastics or the third stage of the dressage can suck my balls.

Seven has screwed FTA viewers, especially in Sydney, over Footy coverage, so take your position in the queue who hate Seven.

Anyway, now that that's out of my system, the match against North is scheduled as a FTA match.

We'll smash 'em!

I agree with going with Carrazzo, he has the engine to go with Harvey.

Grigg can take Grant and I would put Armfield on Wells. Browne to go to Thomas.

Yes Carrazo can run with Harvey, but carrazzo gets too caught up in trying to find the ball and make sure he has 30 touches.... we need a player like Grigg on Harvey, someone to sacrifice their game and JUST SIT ON HIM. Hit him, run into him, frustrate him .... just stop him, he is their match winner.
And yes, we need to match up Petrie if he goes into our forward line.

Ya gotta beat sides like North or ya just joggin' up and down in the one spot. This is a must win game which will reveal a lot about our players and coaches. We should be looking at them all under a fine microscope and working out who is the dead wood. When it becomes clear,it will be the time to start pruning.Swann seems to be strangely quiet lately.Reckon he has distanced himself from all,is sitting back ,watching, listening, taking it all in.Come seasons end,i reckon he is gonna go in hard, boots and all.Thats just what i reckon.

I would tend to go with Armo on Harvey (can match him for pace and I luv his mongrel) and Griggs on Wells.

Agree, Carrots is just too loose to play last line of defence, just gives up too many goals. He is much better value in the midfield rotation.

In: Betts
Out: Saddington

I would not mind Bower back in if he is 100% but no need to rush him back in - save him for the Finals :-D

Harvey and Grant are long overdue.

Harvey is a cheating, diving ponce and Grant is a cheek-puffing, fist pumping flowerstick. Flower them both and their blue and white striped bum-chums.

Interesting observation Mickstar and I hope your prediction is right. That reminds me to start putting together my list of "outs" which I normally do about this time of the season. There are some very obvious delistings and good options for trade week, e.g, Houlihan. It will be hard for Swann, Icke and Co to emulate last year's trading efforts but I won't be surprised if they deliver the goods again.

You're kidding CJ?
Harvey will run rings around Carratts.
Anyway Harvey isn't the only problem with North, they didn't finish third last year by a fluke and they could easily go top 4 this year.
Most people in football under rate them because they have some poor games but when they're on they are very good, they've beaten Footscray (twice) and Hawthorn this year and ran Geelong to a couple of kicks.
Hale will also pose a big problem when he goes forward with our mid sized key defenders, Campbell and Grant are also dangerous and with Thompson and Jones thrown in they have multiple avenues to goal.
We'll need to beat them in the middle, and without McIntosh they don't have a dominant ruckman which is also our weakness.
If Cloke and Kreuzer can break even then I'll back our midfield, especially if Simpson misses again, but we should go into the game shorter and quicker so I'd leave Hampson and Saddington out and play Betts and either Pfeiffer or Hadley if he's fit enough.
