Hopefully the morons who judge this award will finally give him a nomination this week. He pantsed Goodwin last week and has been a very solid contributer all year.

I can never work out how they work this. Nominations are for individual brilliance early in the year, but from an unnamed round onwards they start to nominate "consistent" efforts, rather than weekly efforts. Added to the fact that a 3rd or 4th year player can win it, and Murphy virtually went from unbackable to out of the running 2 years ago because he was injured, the thing is a joke.

Anyhoo. I hope Grigg gets a long-overdue nod that he deserves (or would that be pointless, given I just bagged the award)?

He was outstanding particularly in the first half where he appeared to be the "go to" guy through the corridor. Knowing the way things work (and given he wasn't listed in the best in The Age report) don't be surprised if he doesn't get anything.

Cudos to Mandy as she picked Grigg as a future star after seeing him against the Pies. Only opposition supporter I know of to recognise him.

obviously Choco doesn't rate him - or at least didnt before half time today

It's like with the all-Australian side, they have some 'advocates'/selectors from each of the states, which inevitably means that interstate rookies are far more likely to be nominated and get good votes at the final award. Far easier for Glen Jackovich to notice Rhys Palmer and Garrick Ibbotson and Ebert when there's only 2 teams you follow and support. Whereas there are 10 teams in Victoria with young players to notice. Even half the commentators find it hard to tell the difference between those young players. How often did you hear Bower and Grigg and Jamison getting confused by the commentators?

The exception to this innate interstate bias with the way it's organised, is when you're a very high draft pick, or you have a recognisable name because of a sibling already playing, and then you come into the competition with a bit of notoriety, and so you become a pretty good chance.

Why do any of you care?

NRS, Brownlow, Norm Smith; all meaningless.

There's only one award that matters.

The Premiership.

So can I assume you don't watch the Brownlow medal count?

After all - it's meaningless.

He certainly deserves to be recognised. But considering how little the football media and public seem to care about our 'other' young guys (how many times do you hear a commentator talk about how great our future is, only to go "Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer...and...errrr...ummm...") I doubt this will occur.

Grigga is fast becoming one of my favourite players, and will be a VERY important cog in our next great team.

No, I don't.

Boring as batshit.

An award for flashy midfielders that catch the umpire's attention.

I hope he never gets recognised, i hope they continue to think he's somebody else......I hope opposition coaches think he's a hack and pay him no attention. Continue to fly under the radar thank you Mr Grigg 8)

shit award with no structure as to how it is done, shouldn't be a weekly player picked but rather some sort of panel that awards votes, then announce the top 20 at the end of the year and the winner.

I think Rioli deserves to be called the rookie of the year, but as already mentioned this award is shit.

Until it is called the Timmy Watson medal I won't support it. (due to him being the youngest debutant)

God knows what RE has to do with young up and coming players.

Try drinking games - it becomes the best night of the year. Get a bunch of mates, draw the favorites out of a hat, full pot for 3 votes, half for 2 pots, 1/4 for 1. Also pick one player who is a bit of a joke bet and a full stubbie if they score a single vote. Take tuesday off.

That was the point of the post. The award makes no sense and overlooks many worthy nominees due to commentators and selectors pushing their own bandwagons.....

Needs a major overhaul. I would like Grigg to get nominated as he deserves the recognition, but no one understands it.

Should be restricted to first years players only (draftees from the previous year, not late developers).

whatever criteria they choose to go with this week (except for the one that says don't pick the carlton player. signed ron evans), grigg has to win it. he was the best performed of all rising stars this week and is 4th among rising stars for total disposals this season and 1st among the ones who are eligible to win it this week.

I have no idea whether this kid is tough, can handle himself,or is nothing more than front, but bejesus, isnt it good to have someone in the side that has got a bit of aggresion and mongrel about him.And as a sidelight,he can find the pill and get a kick.

Keith Bromage was the youngest ever player to play VFL/AFL senior football.
