and only 4 days ago the CEOS and the AFL said "hold on... we need another stadium"?

Swan confirmed as such on channel ten yesterday. The AFL spoke to all the CEO's and wanted opinion on building a new boutique stadium. That is why it has been brought up again because it is on the AFL agenda.

Carlton has PP which is a stadium so why shouldn't it be a Carlton discussion.

Yep, ok Mrs Caz,

Just got a little hot under the collar.

Synners, the point I was making with the CEO meeting etc. is that the AFL have been raising the issue of a new stadium in the press this week and PP is currently just starting a redevelopment.

It seemed like an interesting point to discuss, I admit I know little of what the geographical/political issues are and the costs associated with the current redevelopment.

Just musing and trying to get more of an idea of the issues from those with more of a handle on them.

Obviously this issue raises your hackles, I have not got a barrow to push and really dont care if we played at PP again or not, although anything that puts the CFC ahead of the rest is what Im interested in.

The evidence was very clear when PP was being used as a neutral venue that neutral supporters hated going there.

... and let's face it they had good reason, it has always been a prick of a place to get to and a prick of a place to leave.

We love it because it is our ground, we would walk over hot coals to go see the blues play.

The traffic situation has not improved, in fact it is even worse.

It has two chances of becoming the new boutique stadium.

Buckleys and none.

It's ok Mrs Caz. I can get everyone back on the same side with one sentence.

Vic Park is a better option than Princes Park.

The AFL has brought this up now so they can re-negotiate some of the stadium deals with the MCG and the Dome.

I thought PP was easy to get to. Park at Princess Hill Primary OR catch the train OR catch the tram. Parking was cheaper than the Dome.

Victoria Park could be OK but there is no parking.

They should re-develop Punt Road oval. It gives Richmond a state of the art facility and gives a third ground in the sporting precint of Melbourne AND Richmond have the best facilties paid for them by the AFL. Melbourne sporting fans and Richmond are the winners.

We'll really see how profitable Kardinia Park is when they are near the bottom of the ladder again.

Yes yes we can have outr own Kardinia park too..... if we can just move to regional Victoria and get ourselves a state govt grant from a Premier that supports us and the regional city...

Surely some people understand that jam packing 23,000 into home games instead of getting 50,000 people into games is not healthy for long term growth???

Especially YOU pr9ncess park whitler... we just discussed that particular topinc this week...

Its easy to fall for the heart strings tugs.... thats the Elliott thing to do.... and thats why we have been declining and finaLLy catching up with the pack (Thanks to Pratt and his $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$)... but noone is that stupid to go back to that small mindedness.. except the small minded ones...

As for Surrey being a visionary.. thats like wearing the same clothes for 20 years till the style is back in fashion...and then claiming to be a 'vsionary'...
i

Anyway thats what else i wanted to add.. your turn with your points.. cos i still dont get what youre actually attepmpting to say..
Synners, fully aware of the reasons for leaving, but was only thinking of how things may have turned out differently and if the AFL are serious about a third stadium, the benefits of PP.

The closest train station is a 15 minute walk away from the ground, the parking and traffic were a nightmare and the car traffic slowed down the Trams which should be the best way to get there.

When neutral games were played on the ground some of the smallest crowds since VFL days were common.

Surveys of AFL supporters were done at the time and non-Carlton people hated the ground, citing the traffic problems and the Legends stands as their biggest gripes.

It's a great training surface these days and is pretty close to the same dimensions as the MCG. Let's have it for ourselves as an elite training centre.

I agree. Collingwood should build a stadium.

That's a good idea for the access and egress reasons that PP is a bad one. Trouble is, if the MCG and Punt Rd were being used at the same time, the issue of transport would again arise. maybe if they played one game at 1:30 and the other one at 2:30 it might work.
I lived going to the footy at PP. Getting there was OK because I used to go and watch the U19's, twos and firsts but getting away was a nightmare, no matter how many trams they had end to end on Royal Parade.
