For God Sake Porplysia richoched/cannoned into Browne - Browne had barely any time to react other than an instinctively.

For this incident to be interpreted any other way is a disgrace - and unfortunatley for Browne being a "no-name" and he is more than likely going to cop it in the neck.

We should be VIGOUROUSLY appealing this travesty of a decision.

Whilst Adrian "Chester" Anderson is on some $150,000 AFL funded MBA Junket  the travesty of a Tribunal/MRP System he basically copied from another code  is going to sully the reputation of a fine young ball player in Browne.

Did he try and avoid contact though? He could've put his hands out to protect himself.

You have to look at the incident in light of the rules as they stand.

Some posters may prefer us to be soft. There's a reason I called Grigg Pike with brains.

This is what I dont get, why should Browne have to try and avoid contact when a player comes flying towards him...

It's part of the AFL's duty of care policy. I have read the rules and as soon as I saw it I thought he'd get a week. A number of players have done time for bracing themselves and making head high contact.

You've still failed to find a single post where I've criticized Browne.

What are these idiots on about.
Looking at it on the replay, it is very difficult to see any intent by Brownie
to purposely try to do anything.

He was pushed into Brownie.
Every commentator I have heard says that it is the worst report they
have ever seen, and it is a joke.

Hope he gets off. I don't know if I'd laugh or cry if his four weeks are reduced to one. :?

This will test the AFL's resolve and belief in their system

QFT - while I was busy enjoying some schadenfreude with my coffee this morning nearly choked when I heard this. Travesty is the right word and if the "offender" had been one of designated golden boys it would have been rightly thrown out.

Of course we should appeal because the decision is a nonsense!

But I bet we won't get him off. Why? Because Verbs is actually spot on... the way the rules are this is exactly the sort of incident they are trying to stamp down on. So the rules are being framed to stop the sort of incident where a guy gets bruising on the brain. Doesn't mean Browne is culpable or negligent in my book... indeed, there is very little he could have done. But the way the rules are framed means I reckon he'll get a stretch.

Verbs isn't actually arguing against Browne, he is presenting the way that the law of the game is governed these days. The fact Browne will likely get a suspension is plainly wrong and ridiculous. Another example of the Spew destroying this sport.

That's a ridiculous statement, verbs.

Look at it again in real-time. There was no time to react like you want him to.

Thanks Molly. I think it's pretty unfair to say that I've said I wanted Browne suspended because nowhere in this thread have I said anything of the sort. I expected him to get one week, which is in line with the way the rules have generally been applied this season. Unfortunately they haven't always been applied in a consistent manner. To say I wanted him out for three is a complete fabrication.

What sticks in my mind is a Port player bracing for contact (in the contest for the ball) and collecting an opponent with his hip. Pretty sure he copped three weeks. Which brings me to another point, nowhere in this thread have I said I agree with the way the rules are applied. I have merely stated what the criteria is that is used and how Browne's incident fits into that.

With the three tiers to the rules being Conduct, Impact and Contact, it's only the first one that Browne has any chance of getting off on. The impact was clearly severe and the contact was clearly high. The hard part will proving his conduct in that it was completely unavoidable. What also makes it tricky was that it was behind play.

Also, I have never said anything about Browne's behaviour other than good on him for going in hard. What do you reckon Travis Johnstone would've done if he was in Browne's position?

Unfortunately the rules are pretty clear cut on what they expect, and the AFL take a lot of pride in them. To go from 4 weeks to no weeks will require the AFL admitting there has been one huge blunder, and on past performance that's a little hard to see happening.

Get real KK, there was plenty of time if you just run the tape at 1/4 speed.

And if you freeze the frame, Browne has all the time in the world to avoid contact....and with a time machine....

What makes me chuckle is how feral people here would be if it was an Adelaide player doing the same to a Carlton player.
