In a very weak competition.. when just about every club is floundering....

Id have taken 7 wins before this season started... but as the season has unfolded we have seen a bunch of crap sides out there.....and i would imagine we should have gone by half...

I reckon Ratts will go outside to try and trade for players for us to improve....
I reckon a) either we have no faith in our drafting and development for sustained success
or b) we will go for easy solutions to improve.

My fear is this......

.. in ur rush for succeess... we will try to win a flag for Stevens and Fev but cost Kreuzer Murph and Gibbs....

If trading Walker meant we we going to secure a big gun - I would do it as already I think the No1's taken in 05,06,07 have passed the No2 taken in 03 and are a mile ahead on the No9 taken in 04

Youre talking about 13 years plus ago.. and the world has changed...Bob Hawke was still in office...petrol was about 30c to the litre..the draft and the salary cap were insignificant as was ist management to the degree it is... and you probably wore padded shoulders... acid wash jeans... and listened to Rick Springfields 'Jessies Girl'.. we were just coming out of a recession not sliding into one... and you wore a mullet on your head...you probably smoked winnie blues or malboro reds...and your cappuccino was scolding hot and very foamy....EON FM was still the station to tune into and Top Gun was the movie you were talking about...Youd think Ozzie Ostrich was grey in your black and white telly and youd have a moarinara with tomato sauce...Youd hang around with footballers at the Tunnel for a free drink...or maybe Cafe Venice...Youd think water beds were cool... and even more so if they had a built in clock radio.... youre living in the past!!!

It's an "in-joke" going back 27 years.

If you sit around waiting for draft picks to mature you will wait a long time before you win a flag - You have to use the draft to create a base then trade to top it up - Ottens was significant last year - Ball was one of the main reasons Sydney won a few years back . West coast was chock full of talent as was Brissy . We are not there yet - not far away but not there - Some one like Kerr would put us very close and get a decent ruckman then its make room in the cabinet for another cup

If you can trade an ok player and a pick to top up your list with a gun or fill a gaping hole you have to do it . Draft picks are still speculative no matter how you look at it . We have done ok with are number 1's but so so with every other number . We are still relying on late picks and rookies to carry us over the line each week -

Judd - Murph- Gibbs - Kruez and Fev are five guns you really need 6 or 7 and two of them are still kids

Don't be so sure that we will scramble for Kerr.

There other bigger fish to fry than Kerr.

Kerr is garfish compared to other fishies in the sea.

That is if you actually think we are that close to a flag that we only need one player to go the next step. IMO it is very dangerous to think that why; if you do give up a lot for someone like Kerr and then someone gets injured or players lose form you are back to the pack and no where near a flag. You are also losing depth for one player.

IMO we still have a long way to go before we can challenge. I hope those in charge don't give up Walker and/or a first rounder for Kerr because they think we are close...hopefully we don't go back to the old Carlton way of quick fixes and instead keep developing our own.
