PROS

1st qtr looked pretty good.
Gibbs - poise and skill
Simpson - was awesome
Waite - wish we had two of him
Browne - thought he showed some improvement
Austin - shows signs and will only better
Carrazzo - has to play on ball not defence
Pushed a side that plays ugly at their home and is tough and hard
Lot to like going fwd

CONS

We Lost
Stevens handballing
Russell looks great for 20 minutes very week then goes missing
Turnovers & skill errors
Ability to play 4 qtrs yet
Ruck
Lack of small fwds and fwd options
thought we missed the big option in defence (Setanta?)

I reckon Stevens is one of our best handballers. He did some beuties today....but then he handballed to the Crows which resulted in a goal.

Don't be so harsh on his handball...have a look at the tape again and compare Stevens with most other Carlton players.

Handball in general was pathetic today.

I counted at least three times he handballed and turned it over when in space. He should be kicking it at every opportunity.

Jameson backing himself to run the ball out of the backline along the boundary is a huge Pro...

Our option #2 for kicking goals getting injured hamstrung us... (pardon the pun).....

PROS:-

Fevola - Gotta love him. Could he kick the ton? I'd love to see him do that!

Kreuzer - doing things a ruckman shouldn't be able to do, and making it look easy.

Simpson - Played a captain's game today. showed determination and leadership.

Matching it with the big boys - In he past 3 weeksw, we've lost to Sydney by 2 points, beat the Bulldogs and lost to the crows in shocking circumstances (i'll get to that in a minute).......all of those teams are finals contenders with one or two of em being grand finalist hopefulls. We're almost there!

Walker - good to see him back.

Jamo - did some interesting things today that excited me.

CONS:-

Kick Ins - for the love of baby jesus, sort this shit out cause it's a joke!

Hangers-on - Yet another game where a few of the "Hangers On" let us down. I'm sorry, but you just shouldn't be playing in this side if your only good for 10-15min a game!

Stevens turnovers - 3 in a row, of which one of em resulted in a goal..... simply not good enough from a so-called 'Elite' player!

Austin - had a shocker. Not ready yet. Bring back Setanta.

The Umpires: - JESUS H CHRIST THIS GAME IS A JOKE. 53 free kicks in a match is far too much and for the love of all the is sacred and holy can somebody explain to me how an umpire is free to run into a player's run and NOT call the ball back. What a @#$%&! joke, seriously. Soft free kicks and just the worst game i have seen all year.
Ohhhhh......... but don't dare say anything to the AFL,.....cause you'll get fined! :? ........what a crock of shit.

- MARK MY WORDS.......... FEV WILL BE FINED FOR MAKING CONTACT WITH AN UMPIRE. Just a down right @#$%&! joke.

Pros:

the boys kept trying thats all I ask.

Browne - there is something special about the lad, he either gets us a much needed free in the f50 (which is so rare .. idk) or gets us a pressure relieving free in defense. Composure is great and is a strong mark, he will work on size and leap and all but, His first touch was nearly mark of the year and he has ironed out porp legally.. im getting goose bumps for next year for all the lads at the CFC. is that just me ?

cons:

umpiring decisions need to be looked at.. like the good man said above, how is not when a dopey umpire runs into the charging spearhead fall over nearly and i say nearly causing injury to fev not something ud call back?

But fev should have also stopped turned around and have a shot but in the context of the game playing on was the norm.

Disposal errors still being cleaned up.

Kick outs need improvement. I liked when Juddy took the kick out for a hand ball recieve to kick it again and the boys tried it and nearly came off. That little learning in game makes me smile as we can turn it on as we have been proving lately in out late charges. Season is far from done.

PROS:

- Fev was great - outmuscled Rutten
- Gibbs did an absolute number on Thomson - wish they had of switched him to Van Berlo
- Carrots best game for awhile
- Simpson, Stevens, Walker, Waite
- Not making the finals this year will make us hungrier next year
- A winning ruckman and another 40-50 goalkicker and we're almost there
- To be even talking finals at this stage of the year shows how far we've come

CONS:

- Murphy's worst game - hope he doesn't play too many more like that
- Thornton is far too pedestrian
- Russell has a go as a forward, but 2.13 for the season is just wrong
- Letting Shirley stroll past the mark TWICE to kick goals
- Letting that dingo Moran kick goals (Setanta would have been a good match up if not injured)

Pros
- More valuable "finals like" experience obtained against a seasoned Crows side for our 1st and 2nd year players out there i.e. Armfield, Browne, Austin, Kreuzer, Grigg, Gibbs and Jamison. How any 1st and 2nd year players did Adelaide have out there? Players like Austin and Browne may have been our weak link yesterday but next year they will be better and we will win these matches.
- missing finals may well work in out favour and make us more hungry next year.

Cons
- Mistakes/turnovers
- Murphy had a poor game and Judd was beaten by Shirley.....however they were both fantastic last week so we should cut them some slack.
- Spuds like Moran and Maric causing us headaches in defence.

PROS
Grigg will be a 200 gamer
Jamo excellent defensively
Fev worked hard - still has to not stop to berate umpires when the ball is live (tho he had a point)
Carazzo was very good. Keeps his feet well and good lateral movement
Big K is going to be a star, but give him a rest
Simmo - terrific
Walks - barring injury looks set for a stellar 2009.
Some of the Adleaide set shots at goal made our guys look like Peter McKenna- we are not the only side with guys that can't kick.

CONS
One marking forward. Fish tries hard but any possession he gets beyond 40 out doesn't hurt the oppo and he goes to ground after each marking contest. Doesn't have the size or strength to play CHF. He must be played as the third tall near goals where one out his contested marking will be useful.
Waite was good, but a guy with his talent is wasted as a loose man in defence when the side is screaming out for a second quality tall forward. And he needs to be a better kick if he's consistently bringing the ball from defence (think Luke Hodge/Ang Chrtsou)
Maric and Moran are as inexperienced as anyone out there and no-one's idea of key forwards, yet they snagged 6 against us. How can this happen? If Setanta had been their opponent there would be a stampede on here to slaughter him. Let fly on our tall defenders Sydney Blue.
Umpires - over umpired
Last minute Edwards had a mark near the Blues behind post, stepped over the boundary to take his kick. The umpire hurried him on then called play on with Edwards still standing outside the boundary line - surely that is out of bounds? But the umps let it go. Didn't matter as it happened, but if we had been 3 points closer it could have been vital

we know that fish is good mates with waitey and all that but an extended two year contract seems abit weird -- his value is deteriorating with every game.

- Put aside Carlton's history and even if we were in the final 8 it was a good tight game against good opposition away from home.
- Carrazzo
- Walker never missed a beat
- Fevola out muscling Rutten - as his career progresses we should see more strength goals
- Simpson is a tireless worker

CON
- Skill errors
- Either team selection or tactics but giving up 6 goals to Maric / Moran just because they're tall suggests poor defensive structure and we shouldn't have given them up
- Carlton fans lamenting Brad Fisher getting a 2 year contract extension when he was one of our players of 2007. Yes he's having a down year in terms of goal scoring but you can't on one hand say he doesnt get the ball outside of 40 and then ignore his stats that say he's having more of the ball than any time in his career.

And imagine it in tandem with Bower.

I was out in the country with no mobile reception yesterday. The telly was mongbeaned but it did manage the barest reception on ch.10. Whether it was the fact I had to watch the game through patches of static, I don't know, but all in all I'm pretty happy with what we showed as a footy club going forward. We are 10 times the team of 2002-2007. It was intense football. We were playing against an exceptionally regimented team at their home and if not for inaccurate kicking we would have won it, (and quite a few dodgy decisions).

Thought the boys were generally terrific if not erratic in a 'young-pup' way.

@#$%&! me we are in for some good times coming with this mob.

Some side is going to cop an absolute belting off the Blues by year's end when it all truly clicks for the first time. I hope it's Hawthorn.

QFT - Carlton only signs up players to make our superstar players happy. :garthp:

CON - think in the end we could have won this one.

We had seven players in their 1st or 2nd year of AFL footy: Armfield, Browne, Austin, Kreuzer, Grigg, Gibbs and Jamison.
Allowing for the fact that Betts got injured which effectively reduced our squad to 21 players - ONE THIRD OF OUR SQUAD against the Crows were "babies" in AFL terms.
And yet some people think we should have easily beaten the Crows on their home turf.....Get a grip!!!

Despite not playing all that well and butchering our ball use quite a lot, we still created enough chances to win the game.

Despite not playing all that well and butchering our ball use quite a lot, we still created enough chances to win the game. But we didn't.
