This is where it now stands. Assuming St.Kilda win tomorrow, we're on 32 Brisbane's and Collingwood on 36. Richmond's on 34 but have a rotten couple of weeks coming.

So, if we beat Port as we should next week, Hawthorn should beat Brisbane in Tassie but really, more than anything, have to hope St.Kilda knock off Collingwood next week. That's super important. If that happens, Carlton, Brisbane and Collingwood are level on 36. Would make our game against Brisbane important in round 21. Be a huge bonus if Port beat St.Kilda at the Dome tomorrow but unlikely.

If Collingwood win next week then it will be hard as, assuming we win, we're game and percentage out with 3 matches to go. Tough! After that their run is tricky but isn't bad, Port in Adelaide, their bunny's Sydney here and Freo in Perth. If Freo are still on 4 wins by round 22 then they'll probably tank for the extra pick. Be so nice though to take 8th spot from Collingwood. Would top the season off nicely :-D .

QFT.

Keep that shit to yourself, Gavro.

The poor skill on display yesterday made it look like the players don't want to make finals this season.

No doubt they are used to hols in September.

Judd wasn't a happy man after the game. He isn't used to September hols.

The upcoming games are as follows....I haven't bothered putting in St Kilda as they should beat Port Adelaide today. We are still a chance if we win 3 of our last 4 matches IMO:

Richmond
- Adelaide (AAMI)
- Hawthorn
- Fremantle (MCG)
- Melbourne

Collingwood
- St Kilda
- Port Adelaide (AAMI)
- Sydney (Telstra Dome)
- Fremantle (Subiaco)

Brisbane
- Hawthorn (Aurora)
- W Bulldogs (Gabba)
- Carlton (Gabba)
- Sydney (SCG)

I can see Collingwood and Brisbane losing 3 games each. Tigers may win 2, that means we need to beat Kangaroos or Hawks!! What a game that will be if the scenario plays out.

I think missing out this year, will make the boys hungry in 09.

It's making me hungry DUC....and even greedy

GAVRO can have his opinion, but it's right he shouldn't use 'we' when giving 'his' opinion. That's railroading...frontier style in the wild west.

I think that the more disappointed we are at any loss in the lead up to the finals, means we know we are (surprisingly) close to finals action THIS YEAR. It means we are further developed than some considered or care to consider.

It's great to have something other than development to look forward to, to aspire to, to give the players something more than just game time to play for.

These kids playing for a finals berth will do far more for their development, hunger and belief in themselves and in the team than just playing out the year; so I'm glad they are playing for something called FINALS.

Furthermore, that passion and desire to take the team to the finals will do Carlton a lot of good in terms of encouraging player signatures to contratcs on Carlton's (fair) terms.

Bring on the onslaught to the finals. If we deserve to be there we'll get there.

In 2008 we:

beat 6th team Colonwood (twice) by 30 and 30 pts
beat 2nd team Bulldogs (twice) by 9 and 28 pts
beat last year's GF team Port interstate
beat last year's finalist WCE interstate
lost 3rd team Swans by 2 pts
lost 7th team Crows by 8 pts

...and we gave too many games away we should have won on current form. Bodes well for a good future regardless if we get picks 4,5,6,7,8 or 9.
What does that say? We are on the rise, where the previous year's finalists are on the decline, and other than Geelong, we can compete against all other teams in the final 8 (with 4 rounds to go).

Why shouldn't we dream, aspire and press for finals?

Picks in the draft?

I believe we need something the draft can't give us; a mature ruckman for 2-3 years to allow Hampson and Kreuzer to develop and give them some relief. As for CHF/ CHB....truly, I think we'll sort that out when Bower, Setanta, Austin, Hartlett, Waite, Thornton, Cloke and Jacobs sort that out. Just get me ONE mature ruckman!!

There's no reason our future CHB/ CHF wont come from picks 19, 20, 21, 22, or even 38, 39...No one knows. It's not like having Pick 1 when you can choose who you want.

Look despite being a great draft this year, we will not miss out on mid range great pick regardless of where we end; our pick of player is dependent on which players are available after the bottom 4 or 8 have their selection.

I don't want the so called best 2 players this year (Ntinini and Miles), I want a CHF or CHB from the draft, and I think we're going to snag one. Which one? Well you don't find that out till 5 years down the track. Just one will do. Thanks.

St Kilda, Brisbane and Collingwood will all lose next week.

We should win which would put us on equal points with 8th place Collingwood and only percentage out.

The only downfall is Collingwood has a really easy draw, whereas we have a really tough one ... so finals is definately out of the equation I believe.

We just aren't good enough at the moment to beat 1. Hawthorn 2. Brisbane at the GABBA

I'd like to hope that the players missing out 2003-2007 will make the boys hungry in 08. ;)

Seriously I think we have one final throw of the dice this weekend.

If we beat Port and both Collingwood and Richmond lose then we are back in business.

I have a feeling Collingwood will bounce back & beat St Kilda at the G. Wasn't overly impressed with the Saints showing yesterday.

Without Didak and Shaw you'd think the Pies will struggle to beat the Saints this week and might find it tough making the finals. Brisbane have a very tough run home as well.

I wouldn't write us off just yet....still a flicker of hope.

I agree totally. The pies are struggling as it is, and now they have lost their two best players (on current form that is) I can actually see them losing all four remaining games:

St. Kilda (TD)
Port (AAMI)
Sydney (TD)
Freo (Subiaco)

I know it sounds funny, but those interstate games will be tough to win, especially now. They have lost a good playmaker up front plus their #1 playmaker down back. We have to win 2 more games than they do to get above them.

Brisbane have:

Hawthorn (Aurora)
Bulldogs (G)
Carlton (G)
Sydney (SCG)

can't see them winning more than 1 or 2 (if they beat us). If we managed to beat them up there, we could put them out of the running. We have to win 2 more games than they do to get above them.

Richmond have:

Adelaide (AAMI)
Hawthorn (MCG)
Freo (MCG)
Melb (MCG)

I reckon they will win 2 from 4 (Freo and Melb) We have to win 1 more game than they do to get above them.

And Essendon*:

West Coast (Subiaco)
Adelaide (TD)
Bulldogs (TD)
St. Kilda (TD)

I reckon they will win 2 out of 4 (WC and either Adelaide or St. Kilda) We have to win the same amount of games (or more) than they do to finish above them.

If results go our way (which they never do  ) if we won 3 of our last 4 we would replace Colonwood!! 8)

Now for the important part: the first hurdle.............

Collingwood will find it very hard to make the finals without Rhys Shaw for two matches, H Shaw for the rest of the season and Didak for the rest of the season. This is very good news for the Blues.
