It's the price we pay for having the best player in the comp.

If Judd is better than Ablett as was recently discussed, then a comparison with Selwood is pointless.

West Coast were pretty ordinary in Judd's first couple of seasons which made getting a kick a little harder than Joel's.

Lets stack up Joel Sellwood and Bryce Gibbs at end of Year 3 and see what is going on. 8)

But Selwood has had more of the footy, even if he is playing in a team that shares it around as never before, constantly breaking the 400-disposal barrier in games.

Cheap stats - Scotland gets heaps of the footy too

Gibbs is just as good as Selwood, put him in Geelongs team and he would shine.

He'll win a brownlow within 3 years

No disrespect to Selwood, because he's a damn good player who consistently makes the right decisions, but he'd be struggling NOT to get a kick in that team.

The damage Judd inflicted with his touches at comparitive stages (and now) is light years ahead of Selwood. Judd's also shown an ability to win ball both inside and out. Judd's vision to hit targets in traffic and under duress was (and is) also better.

I don't understand these debates - it's like the media have to validate the product we are watching now by constantly claiming it's better than ever before. Why can't we just enjoy the game for what it is? Selwood's a good young player - nothing more nothing less.

Daniel Wells, Andrew Walker, Adam Cooney, Brett Deledio, Marc Murphy, Brock McLean, Gary Ablett and Joel Selwood have all been compared to Judd in some way over the last seven years. Joel Selwood is a great young player, but until he is the one young talents are being compared with, there is no substance in the debate.

I can't think of many players I'd swap for Gibbs right now. Selwood is a fine young player, but he definitely wouldn't make that list.

Pft....Using kicks and handballs to make comparisons, this means Carrazzo is better than both

And if you look at their own stats, Judd has a higher ranking anyway, yet the headline is made that way to attract your average low IQ football fan into reading another piece of over-analysed crap

so let me get this straight, selwood avg 5 more possies over 37 games playing for a side who is on the greatest ever winning run of all time, with a star studded midfield, yet judd score a whopping 35 more goals over the same period playing in an average eagles side, yet judd is only slighlty ahead.

riiight.

sellwood is brilliant and would walk into any team but judd is the best player in the comp.

i think gibbs will actually be the best player of his draft given a little more time.
selwood has slotted right into a great team and not looked out of place, so he is a gem two.

but gibbs reminds me so much of james hird it's bloody scary

did you read some of the comments posted on there re: Brice Gibbs. the dopey flowers have absolutely no idea how good this kid is. I didn't think he played that great a game compared to previous weeks against the dogs until i watched the replay last night.
Brice Gibbs = supercalafreakinawesome

selwood great player, but lets see how he goes when he becomes numero uno to be stopped. judd was numero uno for west coast by 37 games

Selwood is a bloody good player. There's no mistaking that.

But, he has got a pretty easy ride. To be fair to him, he works hard, I'm not suggesting he's a downhill skier by any means, but c'mon a better comparison for him is not Chris Judd, but Des Headland.

Headland was heading for superstar status when he had Voss, Black, Lappin, Akermanis and Power ahead of him. He's still a pretty handy player at Fremantle, but all of a sudden, he's not so flash is he.

It's difficult to compare players from different teams like this and stats and figures can be researched to suit each argument.

I think I'll just settle with the comment, if Selwood was available and the deal was right, we'd be nuts not to bring him to our club.

Well, behind Judd, Murphy, Gibbs and Stevens, he'd be sure to get a kick, don't you reckon?

Thought I'd post this.

http://afl.com.au/News/NEWSARTICLE/tabi ... wsId=64468

Also, the day Selwood can tear an opposition apart like Judd does & did, is the day I would even remotely consider Selwood in the same league.

Only reason he won Rising Star was because he was hand fed by the best in the business at the time. Made him look real good.
