Nice problem to have deciding between the 2 to 3 goal a game CHF and the mobile ruckman/midfielder kicking 1 goal a game!

Doubt there would be anyone on our list apart from maybe Fevola who has had two bags of three goals within their first 20 games of footy.

actually he has 3 bags now.

Essendon* on Debut (was 3 goals wasn't it?)
Then the come back against port and the win against the doggies

EDIT cancel that, only 2 against the dons, but he did set atleast one other up with a great smother and handball.

Also, I'm pretty sure that Lade should be classed as a CHF.

Why?

I'm assuming we're both of the view that he was a great ruckman as well. But when he played forward, IMO he should be classed as a CHF rather than a FP because that's where he played. He played up at the 50m arc in front of goals with Tredrea inside 50. No way you'd class him as primarily a FP. The fact that he switched between roles as a forward and a ruckman demonstrates what I was saying about how difficult it is for guys who are big enough and good enough to play in the ruck to specialise in the forward line. Only when Port was able to play Primus and Brogan in the same team was he able to stay forward.

Why do you say he was a FP when he played forward?

Well I must admit I thought you were classing him as a CHF rather than a ruckman, didn't realise the comparison was in the forwardline. I hadn't ever considered his role that way and probably went with the sterotype of the resting ruckman playing in a FP so I'll give you he was more a CHF than FP.

It still doesn't support the cause of playing Kreuzer as a CHF. LAde's best football was played in the ruck.

I am copy pasting from another thread in which we discussed the same topic of Kreuzer playing at CHF.

Nick wrote:
I also am against Kreuzer being our long-term CHF. True he could play forward but that would be in bursts.

The reason(s) for this is - and I also said this when he was drafted - the attributes of Kreuzer are great endurance, good skills and sheer desperation and willingness to chase and tackle, but these attributes are all relative.

That is, they are outstanding for a ruckman. He is good below his knees, can run all day from one end to another - that's his main strength but its best suited if he plays in the ruck because he will tire out his opponents like that and no one would be able to keep up with him because most ruckmen can't run endlessly like Kreuze and don't have his skill set.

If you were to however put him at CHF, his skills are not elite and you are taking away from his ability to run all over the ground mopping up balls and providing that extra running option - basically his major strength. If you compare Kreuzer to the elite CHF's/FF of the competition, he isn't anywhere near as clean below his knees or as good a kick. Compare him to someone like a Roughead, Hall Brown, Bradshaw etc, they all have much better skills than him.

This, of course isn't a knock on Kreuzer, but I am basically saying his skills and running ability are elite but that's for a ruckman, not CHF. So why would you be taking his strengths away from him (i.e. the ability to run other ruckmen ragged and provide free option because others can't stay with him) by sticking him as a CHF where his skills, although good, are not elite??

For a simpler explanation/illustration, think Dean Cox and his running ability. Leigh Matthews said that the Brisbane ruckmen couldn't keep up with him because of his enormous running capacity - that's also Kreuzer's strengths, why would you stick Cox at CHF when he can just run, run, run all over the ground and provide a basically 'free' option?

Edit: Might have to rethink the bolded part 8)

but thats what makes Kreuzer so special... the fact you cannot catagurise him as similar to anyone else.
His second third efforts and his ability to move around in a game where footballers have different builds today than they did 10 years ago makes him a prototype footballer and not necessarily a ruckman.

Kouta was another exaple of someone whp revolutionsed the game.

In my opinion having a man that is what Kreuzer is... 6ft 7... and can cover the ground and marshall a forward line controlling what goes in and comes out is vital into the next ten years....

How do you match up with him????

Dont look at him now.. a raw 19 yr old with 15 games under his belt.. but imagine him as a 22 yr old and 100 gaes under his belt.....he will be a freak forward.. not so much in kicking stacks of goals.... but his control of games in our forward half....and an absolute nightmare to match up on...

Part of the reason 196+ players haven't been successful as forwards is that they are a relatively new phenomenon. It isn't that long ago that rucks weren't even that tall so history can be deceptive.
In the next few years while the flood is in vogue, clubs will try all sorts of things to beat it. If someone can come up with a 200cm FF who takes 10 contested marks a game in the square, all FF will suddenly be 200cm tall.
If that person is Kreuzer, so be it.
I think he can play there if he isn't the only option and reckon he SHOULD play there while Fev is being triple teamed. Imagine Kreuzer leaning against the goalpost while Fev took two opponents away from him? Defences would have to replan their entire strategies against us.
IMO, if they don't use Kreuzer in that role as Adelaide did against us last time with the Triffet, they should do it with Fisher.
I always thought that's how we should have used DeLuca. He may not have been the best ruckman we've ever had but he did take a few marks and kick goals when he had the chance. He dropped a lot too but nobody marks everything. Not even Kreuzer.

Isn't Richo 196 by the way?
