Did it mystify you at the time? I reckon the "grow into" BS is urban legend. After something like only his second or third game (against the Swans) he secured a NRS nomination. He seemed a prospect as a midfielder at the time.

ShaneO interviewed straight after the draft on TV said we are hoping he grows into a CHB ...no urban legend or BS about it...

So he was recruited because some hoped he was going to grow into a CHB? Or someone said that he hoped he may grow into a CHB?

Urban legend and perpetuated BS would have it that is WHY we recruited him.

A massive difference, and his games for Carlton would indicate a differnet prospect. Only a delusional few would've watched him and expected he would develop into a CHB.

I'll leave the myths and legends to you..thats what you obviously know best....I quoted what was said and you tried to be a smartarse thats the difference...trouble is when you take on the role of smartarse and stirrer you need to get it right...
The words ShaneO used were hoping he grows into a CHB......delusional was hoping he would be a player of any note at all.

No urban legend or BS either that I wanted Daniel Harris instead of your midfielder/CHB/NRS nominee/wannabe/never looked likely...needless to say Sporn is kicking the dew of the grass for Nth Adelaide and Harris looks like he will be playing 200 games plus for Nth Melbourne.
Over to you....

CUrrently playing for South Adelaide in the SANFL. Currently out with a hammy but hasn't been doing too badly - I've been putting his name down alot in my SANFL thread this year

The one thing I remember about Spornie was when we were being soundly thrashed by the Swines at the SCG and he was doing not a bad job ... thehalford & I yelled out "Hey - No.36! Who are you and what have you done with Trent Sporn?!" Didn't see much of him after that comment (like Daryl Strawberry on the Simpsons)

You "quoted" that it was said it was "hoped" he would grow into a CHB. If that was actually said, and even if it was, the context it was said with regards to what the person saying it actualy meant is another thing altogether, and something you are unlikely to be able to prove, any legitimate footballer follower in his or her right mind never ever, ever, expected Sporn to be a CHB except for you after you read what you did into Shane O'Sullivan's comments.

I'm sorry you got your wires crossed. It happens to people every now and then.

Blake Campbell was nothing like Murray Vance.

Unfortunate for Campbell he had an inury riddled year when it most counted. He could well still be playing now if thing had've worked out differently.

Very much a Daniel Harris type.

Wasn't comparing the two, other than to say that there were some pretty big expectations on Vance too.

I thought that he may have been a better find than Fevola at one point.

Yeah, well I guess when you expect someone to be something and it doesn't happen then you will be disappointed.

I'm still cussing that Harris hasn't made it as North's CHB. I was expecting he would grow into the position.

Vance was a top 10 pick so I suppose expectations were a little more justified. Campbell was a fair bit deeper in the draft.

But yeah. Mixture of poor timing, premature expectation, and some shit development coaching probably.

Where has this guy pissed of to. Did he get seriously injured or something, i really was looking forward to his guy after his performance against hirdy in 2003. How mamy games did he end up with at the end of his career? Was it Paggins fault that he was gone and what about that young talent that also left what was his name:?: wait i remember it was Luke Livingston and Justin Davies, They really got the club going. And then there was this guy i cant remember he first name but his last name was Kenna

My mates and I used to call it the spastic rotation policy.
Seriously, Sporn was a very ordinary player, too light for a KP, poor foot skills, not overly quick.
2000 was an average return for 3 top 15 draft picks but we'd had so few high picks up until then that we didn't really know what to do with them when we got them.
It's a wonder we didn't trade them for some B grade hacks anyway.

My mates and i saw Sporn as part of the brotherhood. The name of the brotherhood was the Floweren Bros. because everytime Sporn and his mates went near it you'd find one of us blurting out sentences with at least one flower in it.

True story.

Sporn is still playing for North Adealide. Anyone who had a close look at the Sporn family should have known that they are all stick people. Talented sportspeople but thin. Gary Sprorn (Trent's uncle I think) was a talented stick thin premiership ruckman for North Adelaide.
Stephen Kenna had a couple of good years at South Adelaide after he was delisted, but has moved on - don't know where.

Would we have won by more with Sporn?

Really makes you think.
