greg swann did'nt say the contract is put of to the end of season

he said it is likely that the contract with fev will be put off till end of season

and that the board will likely agree at tonights meeting to put fevs contract on hold...

so if the board doesnt agree with swann the contract still maybe on the table..

I agree with most of you it will be at end of season now

Am I alone in thinking that it is very strange for Swanny to publically declare that fev's contract will now be done at season's end?

If the deal is close surely it would be better to have it done and dusted?

If they are getting tired of the hoopla surrounding Fev, this is not a way to reduce the rumour mill, media speculation of Fev's future.

Anyone else feel his time at Carlton is coming to a end?

If it's true that Fev used market value to try to drive up his price, maybe the club is doing the same to drive it down.

Maybe they've shopped Fev around and found no one wants to go near the big unit. Maybe they'll put $375K x 3 years and a big "take it or leave it".

I reckon we're at a 50/50 as to whether he'll be with us next year.

Player contracts run till the end of October.

Trade week occurs early October when they're still contracted.

It's just a test of who wants who more.

Swann/Icke don't want to be seen as desperates and Fevs just playing poker and calling their bluff.

I'll bet Fev caves and signs for CFC's price.

I agree Lily of laguna. I have a feeling Fev is on the move and he only has himself to blame if that is the case. I'd hate to lose him but I trust the "pratt pack".

He'll sign I reckon for a little above CFC'S price but more below his price. It'll be more of a case of who's closer to whose price. Fev's wants to stay, and will be as he said so, so I'm sure he'll sign for somewhere above but not far above the club's price.

I think he stated pretty clearly on MMM and at the NAB function that he's staying. Terms will work themselves out.

That was my assessment too. There wasnt one occasion where Sydney werent taking clear possession anyway. Either fev is very lucky or he's not as stupid as people think he is.

He has cost us several downfield free kicks from late/poor tackles.
IMO, players like Fev do it because they are basically undisciplined and selfish. Its easier to crash into someone or go to ground than to continue chasing and applying pressure.
It is a lazy, soft option.

Yes but it does help open up a defence from people filling in holes... if they have been slammed into earlier in the game...(doesnt always work but does with some).... players hear footsteps when Fevs charging down at them.. and often just do anything to get the ball away...

Unfortunately... it shouldnt be Fevs job to be putting forward line pressure on opposition players.. and there arent too many in our forward line that do...

I don't think Fev has a say. If the club want him they will sign him, if the club see better opportuntites by trading him they will do it.

Fev can think he is in control, but he isn't.

Talks officially on hold:

Exactly right. Unless he wants to play for Melbourne, Freo or WCE of course. In which case he's totally in control of spending his entire career playing for also-ran teams.

He might have every say. Theoretically, if he refuses to be traded what are the club going to do, delist him. not likely. Never seen that before though and the "long bow" theory.

On the other hand if he, like Judd last year, chose one club he wanted to go to what are we to do. Especially if it's a top club. It may be a case of "trade me there or it's the PSD". He may be bluffing but it's a good bargaining tool. We'd being doing a trade with handcuffs on.

Thirdly he may go into the PSD. Some say he mighn't want to go to a bottom club ( we don't that) but a near million dollars a year, which he could put on his head and probably get, is a pretty good compensation to finish a career. That's why his management can play a bit of hard ball because even the worst case senario sounds pretty good. His management knows too that the club needs him badly due to the total lack of KP forward options. For that particular reason very few on here realise how much losing him would hurt us. Especially for a side ready to take the next step.

Anyway, it's not that far off apparently, according to SEN. It's only being held off to the end of the season so because of the media distraction. Talks are progressing ok. Both parties apparently want to concentrate on football for the rest of the season without distraction. It'll sort itself out and Fev will be playing here next year. He wants too.

Yeah, I think Fev does want to stay but this prolonged negotiation (not blaming Fev entirely) has not done him any favours.

It makes me think the club are now keen to see what will be on offer come trade time. Swann has stated that we have room to move for a big name to come to the club and maybe Fev will be part of that or take a bit less to help out.

Anyway I dont think Fev is now in a position to call the shots and thankfully Swann and co. have the matter in hand. :)
