Disappointed.

If it's just homesickness - then you can't fault the boy.

But I guess we don't know for certain either way - and this is all we can go by.

I am also worried about how this will affect potential Irish recruits, hopefully they won't read more into this.

In a quick straw poll - anybody here have any idea whether Aisake will be retained by the club?!

I never found out the whole story about his pre-season indescretions/falling out with the club...

Is the answer for quality footballers really in Ireland?

Stynes was a freak. Tadgh and Marty Clarke very capable too.

But that is 3 out of how many?

A different game, a different continent a world away. I would rather see us look inland a little more. Find the quality in our own country.

Yes, good luck and all the platitudes.

BUT WHY???

How many other clubs have had an Irish recruit skip back to the home country mid season?

not many .... if any.

There are a few clubs out there with Irish recruits who seem to be doing very well, Sydney, Brisbane, Collingwood.

We have one guy on his way home, Aisake seemingly in the sin bin and Setanta now with questions marks.

I know it is fodder for conspiracy theorists but Shield, Aisake and Setanta.

Is there smoke? Is there fire?

Anyone in the know care to shed a light on our Irish dilemna?

come back colin corkery?

Don't forget that the very same Brisbane team you're lauding had the same thing happen to them last year - they just got 2 guys and one stayed, so people forget one left!!

Thanks for the info House. :)

I heard that the club is struggling to keep it's Irish website contributor as well.

Apparently he's staying now that they've caved in to his demands and allowed him to lick out the empty pots in the social club twice a week.

Wonder if his will deter some of the Irish hopefuls we've "informally" signed up to come over and train in the pre-season???

Rian Ó hUallacháin?

Russell is also an Irish surname.

We know he talks to Setanta and probably talked to Shields too. Is it just me or does our footy department lack neceesary people skills to handle these guys? Would like to think of our club as a welcoming one. We are going to get a bad name over in Ireland from this. Club needs to stop the rot asap and manage the PR.

What he said.

Read same article and about to say the same thing.

Best of luck Michael.

On the comparisons - Sydney, Collingwood and Brisbane are looking outside the box for an advantage..... We're looking for SOMETHING that we can plug in to the team at CHB, CHF and in the ruck. I don't think you can compare our expectations with theirs.

Setanta is good enough to hold his spot on our list. His physical attributes would give him a look in on any other list.... IMO it is nothing more than a lack of leadership in the playing group. Judd is only one man, Stevo has his moments. The rest don't have the runs on the board to carry any significant weight in the locker room..... Different story in 4-5 years time tho.

We should be targeting some 3rd world Country kid,i'm sure they have some quick as lightning black African kid who can learn the game who loved to get out of that place.

Oh well, good luck at home Shields.

Now lets ditch the Irish experiment and draft local kids.

Can you define local? Not born in Carlton, Victoria, traditional AFL states, Australia? What about those who cam to Australia when young, how young?

Not really that simple is it?

I wouldnt be ditching the Irish experiment......you keep trying and learning from the experience, make better selections and fastrack your training methods. Some clubs get lucky quickly others need to be patient....good luck to young Shields and hope he got something out of it and the club learned a bit more as well.
