hi guys first time poster found this site after the "little papers article on forums"

been a blues fan for life, it is a 400km round trip to the footy for me but always go 3-4 times a year. and never miss a televised game but sundays game will be my 8th this year it got me thinking what has bought me "back".

the answer : judd bought me back (was there round 1) but watching gibbs and murphy live has kept me there. this is indeed an exciting time.

just wondering what gets you excited to go to the footy week after week.

btw: nice to meet you all

Nice one 95.

I'm like you, a CJ fan. Of course I've been going since before I could walk, but I loooove seeing blokes like Diesel, Kouta and Judd play in the navy blue.

Gibbs is fast becoming the equal to Juddy as to what I look forward to seeing most.

That and of course, GIBBINS!

Welcome strive.

There is one thing that gets me to the games and that is My Smurph.

The rest of the players aren't that bad.

Nice first post.

I don't get to as many games as I would like, but do like to get to at least one game a year. So far I have seen the Melbourne game at the G. Got very excited when Judd goaled on the run from outside 50.

It's part of my dna - it's what i know and to sound a little corny and paraphrase a line from the baseball movie 'Fever Pitch' -

Why do we inflict this on ourselves? Why? I'll tell you why, 'cause Carlton never let you down. why? Because they haven't won a lot of games in the last 6 years or so? So what? They're here. Every April, they're here. On a Friday, Saturday or god forbid Sunday twighlight at the Dome, there is a game. Carlton doesn't get divorced. This is a real family. This is the family that's here for you.

I told my wife before we got married "Look - there's something you need to know about me"....she was expecting the whole 'I'm addicted to cocaine' - 'I've done time in jail' line...what she got was-

"I'm addicted to Carlton...I bleed navy blue...there's no cure - I don't want one...I've had it as long as I can remember...it's a life sentence and it'll probably take some time off my life, hair off my head and nails off my fingers - but if you ask me who I am - in order it's Carlton, Victorian and then Australian..."

I said to a St.Kilda supporter last week "How's it gonna feel going to the grave only ever seeing one premiership?"
He turned around and said "You arrogant Carlton prick"
I replied "Thankyou"...that's not an insult - that's a compliment...that signified that while we're not there yet - we're not far away...and that's what gets me there.

Welcome to TC strive...

Same size trip for me and I try to get to at least one game a year.

I am Carlton, Carlton is me. It's that simple.

I'm not married but can strongly relate to this......my social life/engagements are forever being cancelled or re-scheduled so I don't miss watching my Blueboys.

I AM married and we have a wonderful negotiated relationship BUT there is a fixture on the fridge courtesy of the Carlton membership pack and my wife knows to NEVER plan/book/allow visitors etc when the Blues are playing.

What gets me to the games now is the same thing as always...I go to all games and have made very few exceptions.

BYW - the membership pack didn't have a fridge magnet fixture 2 years back...nearly ended in divorce!

Welcome to TC Strive :-D

Hmmm why do I go to the games? A life long love of the Blues and never living near Melbourne. Now that I'm here I'm trying to make up for the first 30 years of my life :-D
I think becuase I'd never been to a game live I didn't know what I didn't know  Now I have a whole new love and appreciation for the game and the team.
Plus I love going with my hubby & his sister. It's amusing watching my soccer mad hubby trying to get enthusiastic about Carlton. He comes to the games & enjoys it but doesn't love it. Last Friday he stayed home with the kids and just his sister & I went. I introduced her to the Blues and we have a new member for life - she is Carlton mad (& idol worshipping Gibbs  ).

Mind you, going to the games is stll a new experience and I still get a bit lost around the grounds so if you see some mad Blues supporter looking lost it's probably me

what gets me to the game?

first a car ride to the train station then i get a train into flinders street then change trains again to either jolimont or richmond or i just walk to the mcg... if at telstra dome i just get of the train at southern cross

oh

seriously i love carlton and have done for over 30 odd years and needed to support a different team then my father (collingwood supporter)

since moving to Melbourne 2 years ago i was able to head to the ground more often to watch the blues play more regular instead of only getting to see 2 games a year in Adelaide...

i try to get to the majority of games if i can wether we win or lose i still love the team

cheers
OZ

I have been watching the Blues since 1953

As a child I saw Bill Twomey drop Doug Beasy right in front of Harry Beitzel (who looked the other way) & I have hated Collingwood ever since.

I love watching Carlton win & get as much pleasure out of Collingwood losing
