If anyone watched AFL Teams last night they would have been interested to hear David Parkin's comments as to why he thought Walker was not selected in the team to the play the Saints this week.

He mentioned that he spoke to Ratts this week in an earlier conversation about the blues, and when asked later by Brian Taylor as to why Walker was not back in the team, he said and i paraphrase,

"I would have thought that his (Walker's) preparation and work ethic around the place is not up to scratch at the moment and he will need to improve this to get back into the team. They need him back into the team, he's a very high draft pick"!

Very interesting to hear these comments from Parkin who obviously knows first hand from speaking to Ratts about the issues surrounding Walker. Not very encouraging news if a player such as Walker has some attitude and work ethic issues!

Has anyone else heard anthying about these supposed problems he is having at the Club with Coach and or MC?

Heard Parko's comments and was surprised by the comments re 'work ethic' as I would've thought AW would be amongst the most dedicated to preparation.
His attitude may be another issue.. :?: ..I'd be surprised if there were issues there.

David Parkin's media attitude towards carlton has always struck me as being somewhat bitter since the Brittain sacking.

Personally I take everything he says in the media with a grain of salt, especially when it's in relation to Carlton.

I got the feeling from a Brett Montgomery interview that he has one of the best work ethics in the team.

It just seems he is a bit dissapointed that he's not in this week. Fair enough too as he's been through the tough times at Carlton and is desperate to play to be part of the good times (wins) again. It just show passion for wanting to play for the navy blues

FFS. Like I said in the commentary thread, Parkin is commentary's version of Pagan - no idea of the modern game. Great coach in his time though.

Parkin obviously has an important place in our history but i agree in that he comes across as anti Carlton especially when commentating. Maybe he is trying to be subjective and not biased ????

The way he jumps from one team to the other depending who is winning frustrates the hell out of me. I think his time has been and gone as a commentator !

Having watched 1AW lug those weights around in 30 degree heat lap after lap at PP in that January 5th training session earlier this year with sweat pouring off him he struck me as someone with a very high work ethic.

I didnt see Parko at this training session.

Yeah, Parkin's comments surprised me a little bit too.

But I reckon your conclusion/question from his comments is a load of BS.

I think that there has been enough evidence to confirm for any doubters that there are more than a handful of journalists, media commentators etc that are quite happy to spout information that they may have a "feeling about" or someone else has a "feeling about" as though it is fact...

Ratts loves Walker.

I reckon they just came up with a plan a few weeks back where they named a round he will be back and drew out a schedule.

THe coach is just sticking to that. Doesnt want to make the same mistakes he made at the start of the year playing underdone players.

Good work by Ratts.

Parkin has made it abundantly clear over the past few years that he's horribly out of touch with current goings-on at the club; he'd be better off not pretending that he's still in the know.

I'd take anything he has to say nowadays about the club (and probably football in general) with an almighty grain of salt.

was at training y'day and saw the Walkers reaction after a conversation with Ratts right at the end of training. Im assuming he was told he wasnt playing tonight. His reaction was pretty evident to anyone that was watching him. He was ripping of the tape on his hands pretty forcefully and his shoulders and head were dropped when he was walking a lap of the oval.

I know for a fact that Ratts has high reagrd for Walker, but you could tell in an interview with Lappin earlier on in the week that walker would miss this week.

I think he didn't get a game as he still lacks match conditioning and needs to work on his disposal, the other aspect of it I would of though is nobody else deserved to be dropped?

Parko spoke at a course I attended recently.
He is as surprised as anyone that FOX have offered him a role with their AFL coverage as he admits he is substantially out of the loop.
My response to his Walker comments were along the line of "why bother offering an answer if you are making an illinformed guess"?

The fact is he is paid to offer insight, unfortunately it appears he tends to make it up if he doesnt have an answer. :?

BS thread.

We would all love to have Walks back in the team but why rush him back into a winning team. Let him scare the hell out of the Bombers at Bendigo, take few more hangers and build up a full head of steam for the last 6 or 7 games.

Walks has missed alot of footy and he can't wait to get back. Of course he is disappointed at missing out. When he gets back heaven help the first bloke who stands between him and the ball

Parkin is way off the mark.

Regards Cazzesman

Since about round seven 1997 I think.

Parko has to be talking through his arse here!! …… he’s giving his opinion; not quoting Rats!! …………… on the outer!! Yeah, right!!

Sure, like most others, I’m disappointed that Andrew won’t be playing tonight, but not as disappointed as I was when I saw him hurt his shoulder against the Dogs in that practice match 4 months back. Tex is obviously upset, but he just too valuable too risk.

It’s going to be a freezing miserable wet & windy night at the “G” tonight ….. let him tear the Swannies a new one next week.

This guy always trains the house down, even when injured, as in this pic nearly 18 months ago.
