Yes - as your amazingly lurid, pig ugly, disgusting and downright pile of poo avatar shows.

Luckily here in the world of membership graph production we also have a surfeit of dash and style.

This is Melbourne Camel - we wear black down here.

If you're going to recycling your lame attempts at humour I guess I'll just have to recycle my cutting, witty responses.

Glad to see you've got rid of that horrible avatar though.

We're tracking for 45,000 next year and 50,000 in 2010 at this rate. Continued improvement on field could certainly make that a possibility. Reserved seats at the Dome might be necessary if we can't escape to the MCG.

according to the official AFL figures released today we only have 39,360 members... how did the club stuff that up?

That puts us behind Collingwood, Hawthorn and Essendon* who all recorded over 40,000 official AFL members in 2008.

I think it is highly embarrassing that the club announces 40 thousand plus members, makes a song and dance when number 40 thousand is signed up weeks ago and then the AFL official numbers says we have below 40.

We need an explanation. This is amateur hour.

I spoke to the membership manager and this is what has happened.

To CFC we have 40,764 members which is 39,360 members with game entry and 1,404 arm chair members who do not have game entry.

Apparently all clubs have arm chair members but the AFL don't recognise them  in their official tally because they do not have entry to the ground, hence the published 'official' figure of 39,360.

okay that makes sense. the club published non-ticketed figures in the membership tally on the CFC website.

This is really not good enough. Everybody knows that these "blue members" don't count.

The club should not have included these in their numbers (and AFAIK did not include these in earlier years as the clubs numbers and the AFL numbers were the same). I also think that some people might not have signed up or restricted themselves to the cheap blue membership once we announced we reached 40 K.

This said - I can not understand how the Hawks can have higher numbers then us. Look at their attendance numbers compared to us. What does their membership cost? I think they have lots of "special" Tassie members on a membership restricted to the Tassie games that is dirt cheap.

They have 4 game tassie memberships for around $140 I think and have about 3000 members I think I read somewhere.

They have a different catagory structure than us.

...and I think you need to have admission to 5 games in order to be counted as a 'real' member.

(not saying non-ticketeds aren't 'real' members)
