Is that why he defended Julian Knight?

Look - it's just another Jewish connection. Good Barrister - yes, but he handles the 'murder cases' much better. Getting Mick Gatto off is a mini-series in itself (Channel 9 - 2009?).

Neither side is confident with this one. I am not expecting Dick back in any official capacity. Not too concerned either - more concerned about his health. After all - at Carlton, his work has been done.

Dr Sherrin...you are spot on. People need to get a grip and realise that guilty, innocent etc...these types are trials are long arduous and very, very wearing.

Add age and questionable health and it's a bad cocktail.

Health issues + Legal issues = disaster.

The "word" is at a recent private function Dick was struggling. Tells me why we see him at some press conferences and not others (despite how important they are!)

It's a cardboard trial, for the cardboard media and the cardboard masses.

Deep, I know.

Samuel used to have his mobile phone number on either the Grant Samuel or Docklands Authority Website and boasted that he always returned calls - cant seem to find his mobile number these days.

I have it - not giving it out though! He does however have a severe allergy to garlic that any Carlton supporting sous chef might like to conveniently forget! Alternatively, Dick could hire Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

That Richter defended Julian Knight is a positive in my book. That doesn't mean I have any positive sentiment towards Knight, but I do believe in the principle of everyone receiving a fair trial.

The comment about handling murder cases maybe valid, but I get the impression he'll still do a good job.

Not that I want it.

Just pointing out that he used to boast that he was contactable on his moble and would return all calls.

I'm just wondering when this Knight in Shining Armour, this defender of the common man, this walking talking "Current Affair/Today Tonight/Helen Wellings" - will start to do something like look into the rort that is the price of food and beverages at Sporting Stadiums in this country.

A little too close to home for you is it Mr. Samuel?? The beneficiaries of the estate of Ron Evans might get a little upset at that might they?? Looking after your mates are you Mr Samuel, dead or otherwise.

Rod Waddell - GS was involved in the Yes then No for the Legends stand approval from the AFL. He was part of the AFL penalties handed down to the Carlton FC in 2002. He is now chasing Richard Pratt. I hope RC wins his case because Graham Samuels needs a slap in the face.

BH17. Thanks. I know exactly the history GS carries. He needs to be cut down once and for all.

Catholics and Protestants used to have this thing in melbourne once, where they operated as clans and their respective religions influenced all manner of things outside of the church... political parties, workplaces, allegiances...

Essendon* was a fiercly catholic club. Just try getting a job there if you were a proddie. Some workplaces were Protestant and you were up against it if you weren't. Same went for Masons, etc. etc. Stupid, but that's the way it was.

The Jewish community is tight-knit and is about far more than just the religion. So not surprised by this article, because there is very definitely a strong Jewish Community in existence.

Cue the conspiracy theorists (but perhaps in another thread).

Not really. And the feeling towards Pratt does not seem to be there because those supporting him believe he is innocent, but rather, well he's already paid out $36M so can't you just leave him be.

Maybe I've read it wrong.

But surely the cab rank rule for barristers applies does it not?

CC Can you explain to me what the "cab rank rule" is?

PASSIONS within Australia's 100,000-strong Jewish community have been ignited by the ACCC's decision to slap criminal charges and a possible four-year jail sentence on Jewish businessman Richard Pratt.

Graeme Samuel, the Jewish head of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, has been accused by senior figures in the community of going too far in his legal waragainst the billionaire price fixer.

does that sound stupid to anyone?

The 'cab rank' rule meant that Barristers had to take briefs, regardless of the client, when they were next off the rank. It was a rule created to ensure people received the best possible advocacy, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Yep. I thought the whole article was a bit of a "pisstake" initially.
For some reason, its tone is reminiscent of something you'd read in "The Bladder"
