Are you serious?

I know at Collingwood the cheer squad come up with the banners (actually there's a competition on Nick's every week where anyone can have a go and they choose the best one).

The Club still has to OK it, but that's their only involvement.

I LOVE the bagging banners. They're fun and provide entertainment for all. My favourite of all time was our first game against Melbourne when Peter Moore had joined them.

"NO MOORE TROUBLE AT COLLINGWOOD".

The boring sponsor dominated ones are my least favourite. Banners should be for honouring a milestone, or sticking it up the opposition.

The funny part of this story is that they thought his surname was spelt 'MORE'

No they didn't. Sorry if you didn't get it.

It was a play on words.

No, really? You didn't get it. I was implying that they thought his name was spelt MORE, but they spelt it MOORE. Seems the stereotype fits.

the club have always decided what goes on the banner, including the years that they've been crap. I think the difference now is that they have someone at the club who actually puts in a big of time & seems to have a budget to get it right. That's been a huge fight for the cheersquad for years - the club never cared for what they did so they had to make do with the resources they had. And if they don't provide a banner each week, the AFL fines the club.

What budget do you need to come up with some witty words each week?

TC can do it for the club for nothing.

I can't understand some people. Finally we get to read something interesting instead of the usually sponser rubbish and some aren't happy. Can I suggest if the cheer squad leader isn't happy she goes and joins joffa and the crew down the road at Lexus who are all class unlike us.

Typical Hutchy crap ... does the guy have any journo credibility.

I also think that this was the pick so far this year. Very clever in my opinion.

Don't know what the cheers squad are complaining about, they get to choose the colour of the banner each week.

In that vein....

"The collective noun (look it up) for a large collection of Premierships is a 'Carlton'"

OH FFS, whats wrong with a bit of banter?

The AFL is doing everything it can to remove all the fun stuff from the game, bloody hell compare the stuff here to the stuff that happens overseas and we look like choirboys.

That's downright ridiculous.

@#$%&! you make it hard when it has to be explained over and over.

OK, I'm going to type really slow now, just so you can keep up.

1. We had a player named Peter Moore

2. He left for money to play with Melbourne.

3. The first game our teams played together, the Pies cheersquad chose to go with the banner stating "No Moore trouble at Collingwood".

4. If you say the words "More" and "Moore", they sound the same, yeah?

5. Yeah????

6. OK, if you get the 2 points above you're on your way to seeing the "play on words" we used that made such a banner humourous.

If none of the above makes sense to you yet, please PM me and I'll try to explain it to you again. I'm pretty sure everyone else here gets it and I don't want to bore them any further with tedious lessons to you.
