A powerfully-built ruckman-defender from Bairnsdale, Bob Edmond wore guernsey 38 in his 10 games for Carlton in seasons 1967-68. He later represented Australia in weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games, winning a Silver Medal in the SuperHeavyweight Division at the 1978 Edmonton games and another Silver Medal (in the same SuperHeavyweight Division) at the 1982 Commonwealth games in Brisbane this time behind future Olympic Gold Medallist Dean Lukin.

His younger brother Jim captained Footscray, playing 154 games for the Bulldogs from 1977 to 1985.

a lovely guy, i was lucky enough to train at the great hawthorn weightlifting club between 81-86 and Bob was one of the best blokes u could meet. always had time for the younger chaps there and also kept us line

shit no, sorry if that was misleading, i was going thru bluesum and noticed his debut game was the day jezza 1st played a top game in 67 so i clicked on the link.

I remember him lifting for Silver at the Brisbane Commonwealth Games in 1982 - he knew he was lifting for Silver behind Dean Lukin and said as much - I think it was his second or third Commonwealth Games and was certainly a gentleman in his post lift interview. He had an interesting sliding foot action for the Clean & Jerk.

yes he was one of the rare lifters who did what was called the split clean and spilt snatch ( usually a lifter does a squat). this was because he started lifting at a relevant old age he didn't have the flexability for the squat.

i need to check up records but i though he also went to the 76 olympics
