I'll wade in on this. Fev = good player. Carlton = great club.

Good does not equate to Great. Offer Fev his market value, no more. If he get's hungry use him as a bargaining chip come draft time.

Sometimes our reliance on Fev is a bad thing. We need other avenues to goal and perhaps if we had other options we'd become a better club.

The club doesn't need someone to hold it to ransom, the club is bigger then the individual. Perhaps Juddy needs to have a chat to Fev, and tell him what class is about, because as I saw it, Juddy wanted nothing more then to come to Carlton BUT ensure the Eagles were compensated for him. A sign of class and professionalism.

If Fev wants to play hardball, ask him if he wants to play for the Dees or Fraudmantle next season...

You are 100% spot on my friend. I find it incredible that people on this website call him a Carlton great. He is 27 and what has he done, probably won a small hand full of games off his own boot.

We are better off saying to Fev take our contract or go - no more playing around. We need to focus on getting Brown to the club, signing up Murphy and then worry about Fev.

Here's what I think is happening re: Sydney.

Sydney previously have shown interest, Fev ws going to Sydney with Mrs Fevola, perfect opportunity for management to send out a rumour which does actually look pretty plausible and thus up his price.

I think I'm just reiterating what others have said...but that's sort of the nature of TC. I'm not worried about Fev.

what if he uses the threat of the national draft?

In the National Draft he cannot put a $ amount on his contract.

For those that are confused as to what constitutes a great player let's look at 3 other full forwards of the last 20 years:

Lockett - 281 games, 1360 goals, average 4.84 goals per game, 6 x 100 goals in a season, 22 x 10 goals in a game, 3 x club best and fairests, 5 x all-australians, 0 x premierships
Dunstall - 269 games, 1254 goals, average 4.66 goals per game, 6 x 100 goals in a season, 16 x 10 goals in a game, 4 x club best and fairests, 4 x all-australians, 4 x premierships
Ablett - 248 games, 1030 goals, average 4.15 goals per game, 3 x 100 goals in a season, 12 x 10 goals in a game, 1 x club best and fairest, 9 x all-australians, 0 x premierships

So contrast that with Fev -

Fevola - 156 games, 448 goals, ave 2.87 goals per game, 0 x 100 goals in a season, 0 x 10 goals in a game, 0 x club best and fairests, 1 x all-australian, 0 x premierships.
.

No.... that's a bit unfair.......

What you've discribed there are LEGENDS..........Of which Fev is not and is not even close to being a Legend. Hell, those 3 players you've mentioned are probably in the Top 10 Footy players OF ALL TIME.

What i'm saying is that Fev, if he continues on his current form for the next 3-5 years with us, will go down as a Carlton great.

Hell, look at Sticks record for example. He never kicked over 100 goals in the season. He kicked 738 goals in his career at an average very similar to Fevolas.

Sticks:- 251 games, 738 goals, AVG 2.94 goals
Fevola:- 156 ganes, 448 goals, AVG 2.87 goals.

If Fevola continues on with this form for another 100 games, he will surpass Sticks record and be #1 on the Carlton goal kicking list. If that doesn't make him a Carlton Great then nothing will.

Lockett, Ablett & CO:- LEGENDS.

Fevola.......good player, future Carlton Great.........Legend status?- yet to be determined.

Sticks played most of his career at CHF, not FF so it's a silly comparison.

Sticks is a legend too.

Methinks Fev will have signed with Carlton by this time next week.

I'm bored.

Is this what the lunch with Pratt was all about?

ADDITIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENTS
16.1 A Player, or an Associate of a Player which has been licensed to use the Player’s Image, may contract with an AFL Club and/or Sponsor of an AFL Club to derive payments as a direct result of bona fide promotions/marketing by that Player in accordance with the Guidelines for Additional Services Agreements and the definition of Football Payments. Such arrangements are separate and distinct from the Standard Playing Contract which regulates the employment of a Player to play Australian Football for an AFL Club. Payments made pursuant to a marketing contract shall be in addition to and separate from payments made to the Player for performance of service as a professional footballer and shall not be taken into account in calculating Total Player Payments except as provided in sub-clause 16.2.

Also Fev can't enter the National Draft unless we delist him. Contracts expire the 31st October, but uncontracted players can only nominate for the PSD. Last years dates below, can't find this years cause the AFL website is a piece or work.

All of them greats by any measure you use.

In earlier years you have other full forwards with an even better or equal average number of goals per game such as Hudson 5.64, Coleman 5.48 and McKenna 4.58

So contrast that with Fev -

Fevola - 156 games, 448 goals, ave 2.87 goals per game, 0 x 100 goals in a season, 0 x 10 goals in a game, 0 x club best and fairests, 1 x all-australian, 0 x premierships.

A quick look at the full forwards of the past decade in the all-australian sides yield the names Lloyd, Neitz, Gehrig, Hall and Pavlich. Fev is around the mark of these players at the moment. They are all very good players, but not on the same level as Lockett, Dunstall and Ablett. They were the great recent full forwards of the game and for Fev to get there he has a long way to go.

If Fev was around 15 years ago he would have kicked the same..
Youre talking about the ear of the non flood or the double manning.

Watch those tapes with greats like Larry Donohue... KElvin Templeton... Michael Roach and Simon Beasley up to their necks in open space and goals....

Harder to kick alot of goals today...

He's "a dill"......?.....He is earning a heap of money from CFC and The Footy Show that is entertaining footy lovers; and has hundreds of kids running around wearing No.25 on their jumpers.

He's an absolute dill if he DOESN'T try to get the most money out of his time left in Footy.

Fevola and Judd are the players that people will always pay to watch them play footy.

The Ox on SEN today . . . "Fev owes Carlton"

I concur, if he was at any other club he'd be flipping burgers (so to speak) right about now. This guy has been afforded more final chances than Liz Taylor has had husbands and if the latest Sydney rumours are correct, then he would have even less moral character than I give him credit for.

I'm with the club 200% on the contract negotiations and I hope they stick to their guns. If he plays hard ball then it's hello trade bait as far as I'm concerned.

...but in saying all that, I hear that he may come to terms and sign on as early as next week.

didn't they change that this year so as to allow players to move between clubs more freely? Those not signed by the time of the draft can nominate for the draft if they choose?

He's worth more than Judd!

Traditionally on TC, this sort of a statement will bring on a heap of barrage, personal abuse etc. "Boring!"

What i'd be interested in seeing is if anyone can explain why I might be thinking this? I'm kinda curious myself after my second big glass of a surprisingly decent Yalumba Shiraz Voigner!

Personally, if I was negotiating his contract, i'd pretty much give him what he wants!

The problem with giving him what he wants is the 6 or 7 players who hopefully take us up the ladder, who are also going to need a decent pay packet not tooooooo far down the road.

The club has make sure we can keep all our 'A' graders under the Cap not just 1 or 2.

Regards Cazzesman

As someone said on SEN the other day.....Fev is not just a potential 100 Goal kicker.....he's a genuine personality of the game.....an entertainer.

They are extremely hard to find, talents like Fev.

Who cares, trade week is before the national draft. And if he was in the national draft he'd still be gone by the time Sydney got to him :?

Unfortunately an entertainer in more ways than one. Mainly for the press, because he sells papers because of idiocy and complete lunacy.

If he was just an entertainer on the football field i'd agree wholeheartedly, but he's one brain explosion from being given the rrrse already.

I find it funny when people say a 27 year old has potential. If you haven't realised your potential by 27 then there is a very very very big chance it will never be realised.

Wake up people
