As far as I am aware, there is no rule to stop you from talking with a contracted player. That is only for flowered codes like League who have an anti tampering time frame (which I think they got rid of cause no one stuck to it).

For those that are confused as to what constitutes a great player let's look at 3 other full forwards of the last 20 years:

Lockett - 281 games, 1360 goals, average 4.84 goals per game, 6 x 100 goals in a season, 22 x 10 goals in a game, 3 x club best and fairests, 5 x all-australians, 0 x premierships
Dunstall - 269 games, 1254 goals, average 4.66 goals per game, 6 x 100 goals in a season, 16 x 10 goals in a game, 4 x club best and fairests, 4 x all-australians, 4 x premierships
Ablett - 248 games, 1030 goals, average 4.15 goals per game, 3 x 100 goals in a season, 12 x 10 goals in a game, 1 x club best and fairest, 9 x all-australians, 0 x premierships

All of them greats by any measure you use.

In earlier years you have other full forwards with an even better or equal average number of goals per game such as Hudson 5.64, Coleman 5.48 and McKenna 4.58

So contrast that with Fev -

Fevola - 156 games, 448 goals, ave 2.87 goals per game, 0 x 100 goals in a season, 0 x 10 goals in a game, 0 x club best and fairests, 1 x all-australian, 0 x premierships.

A quick look at the full forwards of the past decade in the all-australian sides yield the names Lloyd, Neitz, Gehrig, Hall and Pavlich. Fev is around the mark of these players at the moment. They are all very good players, but not on the same level as Lockett, Dunstall and Ablett. They were the great recent full forwards of the game and for Fev to get there he has a long way to go.

This is probably why we should sign him up as we will only get a second round pick for him.

So Fev himself has been fuelling the fire..?? :garthp:

Quote:
A BUZZ of excitement swept through Jeff Fenech's inner circle on fight night in Melbourne last month. But it had nothing to do with the Marrickville Mauler's decade-too-late rematch with Azumah Nelson.

The buzz that had the television stars, celebrities, suits, bikies, sports stars and the odd underworld figure inside the Fenech camp talking was Brendan Fevola.

Fevola was quietly telling people the Sydney Swans had made him a huge offer to leave the Blues.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story, hey!

There is nothing in that article saying that it actually happened. It has stated it is based on rumour. You can say what you want in newspapers and for some reason it is taken as truth.

Also he went to Sydney in regards to a book deal for his wife. She is a photographer.

If he goes, he goes. Let him go, IMHO. But that article that has just been quoted is so far away from encapsulating the essence of truth, it is laughable. Comments please!

Lets see if Fev comes out and craps on the article  I think that would tell a story or two.

I hope we hang on to Fev, but if the interest is coming from top 8 clubs, at least we have some leverage and they will have to trade for him without the threat using of the PSD. We should be well compensated if it happens.

He mentioned on Thursday night that he was going to Sydney with Alex who is taking pics of Mundine for a book she is doing on famous people.

You know, I'd prefer if Fev kept his mouth shut.

Whatever he says will just be 'Hutchied' anyway into a story. I hope he keeps his gob shut and keeps playing great footy.

Do that, and everything will take care of itself.

He quite obviously has a very hard time doing that :?

The article loses its credibility (if the story ever had any) as soon as he says there was a buzz of excitement. As if anyone there could care less the Swans had offered Fev a big contract.

Is that the same Tim Morrissey that played basketball for the Sydney Kings?

Tim Morrissey

I'll wade in on this. Fev = good player. Carlton = great club.

Good does not equate to Great. Offer Fev his market value, no more. If he get's hungry use him as a bargaining chip come draft time.

Sometimes our reliance on Fev is a bad thing. We need other avenues to goal and perhaps if we had other options we'd become a better club.

The club doesn't need someone to hold it to ransom, the club is bigger then the individual. Perhaps Juddy needs to have a chat to Fev, and tell him what class is about, because as I saw it, Juddy wanted nothing more then to come to Carlton BUT ensure the Eagles were compensated for him. A sign of class and professionalism.

If Fev wants to play hardball, ask him if he wants to play for the Dees or Fraudmantle next season...

No.... that's a bit unfair.......

What you've discribed there are LEGENDS..........Of which Fev is not and is not even close to being a Legend. Hell, those 3 players you've mentioned are probably in the Top 10 Footy players OF ALL TIME.

What i'm saying is that Fev, if he continues on his current form for the next 3-5 years with us, will go down as a Carlton great.

Hell, look at Sticks record for example. He never kicked over 100 goals in the season. He kicked 738 goals in his career at an average very similar to Fevolas.

Sticks:- 251 games, 738 goals, AVG 2.94 goals
Fevola:- 156 ganes, 448 goals, AVG 2.87 goals.

If Fevola continues on with this form for another 100 games, he will surpass Sticks record and be #1 on the Carlton goal kicking list. If that doesn't make him a Carlton Great then nothing will.

Lockett, Ablett & CO:- LEGENDS.

Fevola.......good player, future Carlton Great.........Legend status?- yet to be determined.
