I miss the discussion about Lance

About Denis

About Smorgo.Imagine how it will be when we are gunning for the flag in a few years.

I mean what is there to talk about when everything is good.

Good players
Good game plan from good coaches

No arguments from fellow feral supporters

Boring

This is a problem this website hasnt faced before because of our seven years of off on field hell

Ironically when we are shithouse this website is more fun

This gets a general, run-of-the-mill :garthp: .

I do agree that sometimes the threads dry up a little unless we are raging hot, or anchoring the bottom of the ladder.

Gives me sweet f-all to read on night shift, and that makes SparkyBlue angry!

That said, I'd rather some decent news in the next week to get the posts rolling on TC, something with a bit of an edge to it.

...like Grigg getting off being reported from a legitimate hip and shoulder that puts Milne out for the next 4 weeks.

There's always areas of the club (sometimes contoversial areas) that need improvement which can cause healthy debate.

Footy clubs are never boring..

You forgot that Judd is injured and we shouldn't have traded Kennedy.

I would happily take a boring Talking Carlton and a winning team any day.

Mind you I dont think it will get boring, just different. Are we ready for less negativity?

As an observer and occaisional contributer in the last few years - I think it is far more boring when we are not doing well. I dont know how many threads were started and finished with the same old crap about Pagan, Whitnall, recruiting (or lack of???), Wiggins, Russell, Burt Deacon, etc - you name it. There were many on the site that seemed to want to just find a target and vent. Understandable? Who knows.

Now I am not for a minute suggesting that some of the conversation wasnt valid - but to read the same old rubbish over and over - was exasperating - and quite frankly made me switch off.

I am finding this year there is a lot more to read and a lot more intelligent discussion. Sure there are still some tools who have put there money on us being wooden spoon this year, but by darn the discussion that is generated here is a lot more rational and thought out, Wiggins>Judd thread aside :)

All I know is where I come from, where I've been, and where I want to be. Where I'm going is the exciting part...I don't know, so I try to make things happen.

My first live game (despite living next door to Uncle Teddy Whitten) was the 1968 GF.

Against that backdrop there's been a plethora of great victories and flags I have witneseed first hand in 1970, 1972, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1987, 1995 and in between those years Carlton was always a threat and a powerhouse after spending years in gloom since the bloody 1945 flag; I wasn't alive for that gloom.

What I do know is that in those years I was alive, between flags we lost opportunities for Flags in 1969, 1973, 1986, 1993 and 1999. Every one of those years has built a passion for revenge against those who took away our right to the flags, in particular, 1973 and 1993.

We should have won in 1980 and made it 4 in a row, but for the politics of factions which tarnished our club and our history making opportunity.

We were robbed by the umpires in 1999, and 1993 we were the best team by far, but also the walking wounded when we entered the arena on that final day of September; I call the 1993 team our ANZACS.

Then there was Black Friday, and the following 5 years, and the years ahead till the 17th Flag and 18th, and 19th an so on. Never forget the slander, deception and degrading acts we had to endure in our darkest moments; the years of our first spoons after avoiding such humiliation for over 100 years.

My point is, remember where we've come from. Lets never lose our resolve to win back those Flags which were stolen, contrived and lost, to strive to kick the highest score on record (again), to win our 4 flags in a row, nah 5 in a row, to have more flags than our counterparts and traditional foes, Essendon*, Collingwood and Richmond, and to be the most feared and reverred sporting establishment in the land.

We have a long way to go, and if we continue to set our goals high, as we're known for, we have much improvement to make up ahead of us, and our current lot are journey men amongst the supporters who will be there till the day they die.

We must encourage our current legion to continue the fight, to strive for excellence, to bring back that arrogance, that swagger of the Bluebagger in our quest for the next Flag, and the one after that.

There will be players who will fail to deliver every week, who will fail to sacrifice their body for the jumper, and for their team mates who wear the same jumper, or push themselves in the preseason and in the dying minutes of every quarterin every game to be the best in order to get theirs and our hands on the holy grail; the premiership cup.

Whilst there are gaps and obvious areas for improvement for our club, we will have something to vent our disappointment with. Whilst we will always respect the sacrifices the players, the coaches and the administration make, nothing is more important and will stand in the way of this club being the most respected, reverred and most important club in the country again; our rightful place in the land at the top.

There is alot to discuss and debate today and moving forward. There are delistings which whilst may hurt some are compulsory and a fact of life in the modern era. There are expectations of coaches and administation and they will make mistakes, and will need to be held accountable. There are great players playing outside our club who need to be embraced, and to pave the path for their salvation to glory from joining our club.

The job isn't done my fellow Bluebaggers. There's a long way to go before we win 5 in a row, and do not expect anything less. It is our duty on this forum to continue to strive for excellence and the well being of our club, and keep the bastards honest; but do it with dignity and respect.

We are Carlton, @#$%&! the rest.

Sensational post, and I for one have not forgotten the last 6 years, and it will be made all the sweater on our way back up to the top.

Talking Carlton is boring when they are not playing the coming weekend. Why do we have a split round? Just play on. If players are tired or injured just rest them. That is why we have a squad of players for the whole season. Remove the split round I say.
