My boss loves his Rugby League and reckons our game is "the most stupidest" (says more about him than anything else). People only follow the "VFL" because there's nothing else to do in Melbourne. He won't listen to talk of new franchises, the fact that it's played in every city, not just Melbourne, that the VFL has a team in Tasmania ... asked if there is a World Cup, I said, "Yes - and the [whoever it was] team won it" ...

There has to be something to say to shut his pie hole. I have tried the 150 years v 100 years ... haven't tried participation numbers, attendance numbers, the fact that only three teams have been culled since 1897 (Uni, Fitzroy, and Brisbane) compared to 15 since 1908.

What do I say? What can I do? OK - there's no shutting this redneck flower up, but I need to be able to come up with something clever

Help me, Obi Wan TCer, you're my only hope!

Terg,
Living in Queensland and having to deal with these similair rock apes, the converstion to our great game is simple. Get his ignorant backside to a game. Seeing AFL in the flesh is the best way to get the "mungos" to see the skill and speed at the higest level. Get him into the crowd, get him to see the passion, the sledging of whoever we are smashing and then buy that same bloke a beer once we are done. That will absolutely blow him away. Mungo's have no idea of when to leave the hositilities in the grand stand!

Good luck!

I think he might only be watching it with Rabbs, Snork, Fattie, and Laurie (but not Roy & HG - if you're going to watch the match, might as well have expert commentary and not the Ch9 idiots)

Raiders -- he's from the Deep South of NSW -- if you know anyone from that particular area of the place, you'll more than likely know this "person"

Why are you even bothering with this?

Grown men sniffing each others bums and dry rooting the ground. Oh, and the ones that don't do that just run into each other. Yep, it's a great game alright.

Rugby League is gawn. Anyone who doesn't think Aussie Rules is the premier code in the country is kidding themselves. If its traditional heartland was not in Sydney, it probably wouldn't exist in this country (and even that is eroding and moving north to Qld). The League can't afford to increase their salary cap, so more and more players are moving abroad. Catchya. I may be wrong but I also think that Melbourne's relationship with Qld feeder clubs is ending or has ended so they are going to be flowered in the next couple of years. No Sydney support, No Melbourne support. yay, they can hang their hat on being popular in Qld and some other backwater state...

The problems the AFL are having with the Qld government (apart from having to deal with the AFL CEO) has more to do with the government being in bed with the QRL and the Queensland NRL teams (and trying to protect them) than anything to do with value for money for the Qld taxpayer. I wonder how Michael Searle (Gold Coast CEO) has seen the contract that the Qld Govt and AFL signed regarding the Gabba. They are flowered...

People like that are shallow and naive. I was born in the south-western suburbs of Sydney and played Rugby League for 7 years at the Greenacre and Chester Hill clubs (Geoff Robinson and Terry Lamb originate from the CHFC)

I always used to look forward to watching the VFL competition on TV (that's how I grew up loving the VFL/AFL) after the completing my rugby league match.

After playing both forms of the game, there is no doubt AFL is much better than the NRL.
