Not in my lifetime he isn't.

Murphy > Fevola

This is where my attention would be. Without the gun midfielders then our forwards won't have an opportunity to kick goals.

Footy has changed. If Carlton made finals all opposition teams would double team Fev and they win the game. Have 5 gun midfielders and you will find they will all kick goals. Look at Geelong.

Paying Fev lots of money is old school thought which is why Elliot supports it.

i agree with you that murpyh's contract is far far more important to us then fevola's is. but i can understand why the club would want to get fev's out the way first because obviously he's more likely than murph to leave and he's more likely to be approached by other clubs. with murph the club is probably more confident that he is less likely to leave and will probably put the club before his pay packet.

Synners it seems to me Fev serves two masters.

One is Carlton where it's pretty much cut and dried, his job is to follow Ratts's instructions.

The other is Eddie and the Footy Show crew where we don't know what's gonna happen from one week to the next and they probably don't either.

Good luck to Fev if he can serve both.

How many did Mooney kick last year. Blows your argument out of the water. You won't win many without a decent key forward. Even the year the Eagles won Lynch kicked 65 goals.

There's alot of absolute crap being typed on the last few pages of this thread. It's typical contract posturing where they eventually meet somewhere in the middle. That's been going on for years and people still can't work it out. It's his last big long-term contract so he's entitled to get the most out of it. In the same situation we'd all do the same thing. If Judd's worth a million a year your FF, who's on target to be close to the 100 this year, is worth at least $750,000. Not sure he'll quite get that but it's worth pushing for. In time they'll meet on a figure.

I think most contracts end on the 31st October of each year? I'm sure someone will correct that if it's not the case.

I want Fev to stay, but not at the expense of multiple players being put at risk as they develop together, as what happened to Essendon* after 2000.

at the figures being bandided about, we are looking at 20% of the cap (or so) being tied up in Fev and Judd - I'm not sure how sustainable that is if we see the development of the list progressing as expected.

The cap is

2009 $7,693,750
2010 $7,950,000
2011 $8,212,500

Only half of Fevola's salary will be included in the 2011 cap.

Perhaps. But if you want to get market value, or above market value, then you usually need to change clubs to do so. Elite players on the open market always get a financial premium. Not so, when you stay at home.

He's entitled only to what his FUTURE worth is estimated to be ...not a dollar more IMO.
The reasoning that he deserves such and such because of what he's done in the past is way out of whack.

Good on you Benny Gale & co.

You've finally got it through my thick skull that player/club loyalty is now clearly only a minute consideration in the overall scheme of a player/club relationship.

No more "he's true blue" or "he's a Carlton man" ... HE"S A @#$%&! EMPLOYEE ONLY.

Murph? - EMPLOYEE ONLY!!

Gibbs? - EMPLOYEE ONLY!!

Wiggo? - EMPLOYEE ONLY!!

AB? - EMPLOYEE ONLY!!

Fev's not a Carlton man! ..HE'S AN EMPLOYEE ONLY!!! ... that's what Benny & Co. want .. RIGHT??

DOA! Young Andy has loyalty does he? He better change his ways!! ..or he'll get screwed ..just ask Benny

Thanks Benny.

Exactly, which is why people bleeting that Fev's contract will jeopardize the ability to sign guys like Murph and Gibbs, probably shouldn't advocate the signing of Kerr, Brown or any other import, because the fact is when Murph and Gibbs are being offered bigger dollars, Fev will be commanding about the same space under the salary cap as Ackland does now. Give Fev the cash he deserves now while our cap is under no pressure, sign him for 3 years to keep him out of the hands of GC17 and take advantage of being able to get one of our premier players on the vetrens list, because we wont be able to with Judd or Stevens.

Mooney is made to look good by having guns like G.Ablett, Bartel, Chapman, Johnson, Corey, Kelly etc getting the ball to him. If Mooney was at Melbourne he would struggle to have any presence. Lynch had Kerr, Cousins, Judd, Embley, Fletcher.

Jim that was a very poor arguement and your thoughts are aligned with the older paradigm.

Id say he is just pushing for another year. Trying to secure his future. At the end of his next contract he will be in that uncomfortable early 30's bracket where contracts are hard to negotiate.

Fev loves the club. I cant see him leaving for Melbourne.

If goes elsewhere i am sure we will be compensated nicely.

Fev is meeting with RP tomorrow. Lets see what comes out of that. The club wants to close this off within the next week, else the club will likely turn their attention to the other uncontracted players and leave Fev's to the end of the year.

I think a contract length of two 4thchicken Trade Fev threads is too short, hopefully the club and Fev can agree on a three 4thchicken Trade Fev thread deal.
