Tell you what - if Ackland does get a gig and kicks more than two goals in a single game then I'll eat a bag of shit, film it and post it on youtube.

Bag of shit is as descriptive as I'll be.

I'll decise the bag and the shit if it ever happens.

Which it won't.

Before some of you guys really go off look at it this way.

He has a contract until next year. His games at Carlton have all been in the ruck and he is NOT big enough to be a ruckman.

I have seen him the last 2 weeks and if you didn't know it was Ackland you would be excited about the possibility of this guy lining up at FF. The Ackland of the past 2 weeks is not the same Ackland that has been at the club for the past couple of years.

If he could maintain that form at senior level it would be an advantage!

I have also seen his past 2 games and it is like watching a different player but he has been playing as a leading forward and, apart from the big mark at Sandringham, hasn't really shown himself to be a great pack mark so I would not play him if the plan was to stick him in the goal square.

He's not that old and might have just found his best position but if he is to be given another game, it would have to be as a leading forward.

OK ..... for those of you who have seen him at FF what are his defensive skills like? Is he going to get blown away once the ball hits the ground? Does he chase? Do defenders run off him? It's taken Fev years to get the defensive part of his game going.

If he doesn't chase as well as Fev does, given that Fev's improved that side of his game in the last few seasons, do we have the crumbers capable of being at his feet and take those?

well, lets look at the bigger picture here. it pains me greatly to say this, but...

this is not as bad an idea as it sounds. richmond do not have a very strong defence, but what they do have would be capable of stopping fev if they double/triple team him. i dont think that wiggo (unfortunately) or fish can have enough impact to stop wallace from doing this, and we desperetly need another option. plonk the Ackland in the goal square, tell him not to lead too far and this will take the pressure off the 2 million dollar man somewhat. anchor young browne at his feet for the inevitable dropped mark and that opens up another avenue to goal. keep fish in the side to do a roughhead-like role, and lead away from the ball taking a defender with him. put fev at HF with a licence to go deep into the forward line when needed, and we may have a nice set up. bring in pfieffer or edwards for more run and marking options. banno might return so he may also slot in here

thus, my idea for the forward line would look like this: -

ff- edwards/pfieffer, Ackland, browne

hf - fisher, fev$$$, betts ( to swap with judd or simmo or stevo)

drop wiggo and grigg (someone has to go - he has done well, but a game in the twos might help him a bit)

whats the worst that could happen, losing to those mugs again aside, but at least the MC will be trying something different and opening up the avenue to goal. if it backfires, well at least we know that the Ackland will not be on the list next year

what have we got to lose? i hate ackland's output at carlton as much anyone but we are screaming out for a big option in the forward line to help fev. ackland may just help solve thsi problem for us. the least we can do is give him a go nd if it doesn't work out then we have just confirmed what we already think and won't die wondering.

I agree, give it a go.

cj, his contract for next year is if we elect to take up the 3rd year option.

No thank you to playing him.

As we are desperate for another forward option, then go with Butch or Harts.

Ackland is not an option for the Navy Blues.

Is the 3rd year an option? I havn't heard anyone confirm that yet

As for not playing him I am not advocating picking him this week but if he keeps kicking goals like he has he has to be worth a go.

The problem is, that Harts and Edwards don't offer a whole lot in this area either.

FWIW, I think Hartlett will be the next tall forward to get a go.
