QFT.

Plus, NSW has the largest group of supporters outside Vic. We'd get one guaranteed match up here each year, and would probably transform a fair few supporters into members.

what are you basing these supporter numbers on ? how are you gauging this?

WA has the highest membership outside of VIC , i dare say membership is what the club would look at - and we only got 1 game this year ( yes i know 1 is more than none )

It's simple.

Fridays, 518 to show the game live anywhere FTA isn't.

Sundays, if a FTA channel wants to screen the 1pm game, 518 for every state that there's a double up.

Or show them on Fox Sports 2, or Fox Sports 3 when there's a double up.

It's really not that hard.

Are these people thick?

I'm going to block myself off from the world and watch the 7.30pm replay.

It's a chicken/egg argument.

The figures come from the Morgan Poll figures. Camel has displayed the graphs, which show (IIRC) that NSW/ACT has 14% of total supporters.

Do a higher percentage of members come as a result of more matches, or do they command more matches because of the higher percentage of members?

I don't begrudge the other states their matches, but it does irk me when Sydney is bypassed for several years running when Adelaide and Perth get 2 matches each a year. Yes, I realise that isn't the case this year, but it's probably the first time in a long time.

The Club should demand at least one match every year up in Sydney, whether that be a preseason, practice (North Sydney Oval) match, or real season. That will result in increased supporter and membership numbers up here.

That's way too sensible, verbs.

The other option would be to allow the FTA channels to multichannel th matches.

if its all too hard for them or money is an issue i would bloody pay to watch the game on 518 as a ppv event when there are double ups

im sure many others would too

$5.95 like a box office movie would be well worth it

I think next week's game against Richmond is only being shown on FOX, despite it being the only Saturday afternoon game.

The Freo game a few weeks back that was a Saturday afternoon game and there was no live television on either Foxtel or FTA into NSW/ACT. :garthp:

Time to get back in shape so that we can rip our shirts off in the middle of Melbourne...

It is probably time that a coordinated lobby group was formed across Australia. I don't have the time to drive it, however, will assist in anyway possible. It would be great to get some people involved similar to the Chaser when Dimwit hosts his next media conference...

this was my rant
I am writing to convey my complete and utter dismay at the “unprecedented” AFL coverage we are supposedly getting here in the ACT.

Why is it that the AFL has allowed/agreed to a situation where a game being played IN CANBERRA (Melbourne Vs Sydney @ Maunka) is also live on both FTA and FOX in Canberra while the Carlton V Essendon* has no live coverage on at all?

This situation is unacceptable and shows a complete lack of respect to all AFL in the ACT/NSW market (who don’t follow Sydney).

I see no reason why all games that are faced with a “blackout” here cannot be shown live on Fox’s main event 518 channel live.

The Carlton Vs Fremantle game in round 9 suffered a similar “blackout”.

This deal is disenfranchising a LOT of people I know here.
I for one had planned to subscribe to foxtel so I could guarantee I could watch my team play live every week on either fox or FTA, but clearly that isn’t the case.

Fox I will boycott your service until I can see every game live one at least one of the two mediums (pay or FTA). Fox if you want my money SORT IT OUT!

NOTE to the AFL – NOT EVERYONE IN THE NSW and ACT FOLLOW THE SYDNEY SWANS!!!!!!

It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to have a game live on both pay and FTA stations while another game misses out completely – especially when this coverage is going live against the gate here in Canberra, but short-sighted, ignorant and greedy decisions are something I’ve come to except from the AFL.

It’s all about the $$$ to the AFL and they could give a stuff about it’s loyal regional supporters.

I hope your dismal crowd at Maunka on Sunday.

You are doing NOTHING for the average AFL fan up here, NOTHING.

It's not really Foxtel's fault. They are showing every 1pm Sunday game this year. It's 7 who are to blame for doubling up on Foxtel.

does anyone know if this mess was just an oversight (ie a loophole in the contractual agreement) or was it deliberatly drafted that way ?

In terms of a colletive response from AFL supporters there is this website:

http://www.footyfans.org.au/

But it seems a little dated now and I don't know if the organisation is still running. ....

You guys get stiffed completely and we country folk get the crap that Seven serve up every Sunday; 60 min delay, 3-4mins of ads after each goal, crap interview with someone I don't give a flower about at half time, cut straight to the news after the final siren. (Their commentators are shithouse too)

Main Event is also used well for AFL on Saturday Nights, if Ten don't show the game live (ie non Sydney games) then main Event shows Tens coverage live on Saturday nights even though Ten are showing the game at 10.30 that night. Surely the same can be done on the Sunday coverage if this double up occurs

Although, I'm not really sure what else they could say. I will respond with the comment that Channel 518 will be free.

I wrote to Canberra ABC radio about the issue of the TV coverage of our game, and they wrote back apologising for the fact that 666 will be covering the Sydney / Melbourne game as well...

that option's sounding like the way to go and we could suggest people get down to eastlake for a feed before hand.

It also deals with the fact that there'll be a lot of Carlton supporters at Manuka anyway, and we could even do a flyer for anyone going to the game to hand out suggesting they come on down for the 7:30pm telecast!!
