Part of the Collingwood and Kangas jumper deal is that the pies will try and get them involved in a good friday game. The will go to the AFL selling there idea as a plan that will help secure the kangas future.... you heard it hear first

The AFL has again ruled out playing on Good Friday next season.

The decision means the AFL remains the only major football code that does not play on that day with the National Rugby League and the Super 14 rugby union competition both regularly staging matches on Good Friday...

Boo!!!

This actually shits me.

I do not see why Good Friday is the last bastion of religious holidays (not counting Christmas, as that has more to do with spending)...
It seems odd. And this isn't a problem I have with the AFL in particular, it's a problem I have with society in general.
Why is this particular religion still treated differently? Where's my holiday over Ramadan? Where's my Greek-Easter long weekend?
We play sport on almost every single state-sanctioned holiday except this one. For no good reason. Is it just that Andy D was brought up to be a good god-fearing boy?
It seems so... old-fashioned.

Andy D is Greek orthodox and they rarely have Easter with the other Christians.... so it shouldnt be skin off his nose now should it???

But you should go to work if you dont think it should be a holiday....start a petition and get your co workers to go in for the day.. have your boss to open the doors....

Force him!!!

Just as you want on the players.. and the staff at the venue.... all for you.... and your holiday....

Interesting to note that it is the broadcasting which is the reason this time:
Quote:
Demetriou said the AFL had looked closely at the broadcasting arrangements for the Easter weekend and was of the view that a match on Easter Thursday night worked extremely well for the competition before games on Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday

As usual its all about the money

I'm with you on the staff.....

But how much do the players get, for working 6 months of the year!!

They get enough time off.....

Too much of a ratings risk with the religious people possibly boycotting the broadcast

Ratings risk, schmisk!

Play the game and people will watch.

Don't know about the players, but I'm sure a lot of people would kill to work on Good Friday at the venue. Imagine the pay. 2.5 times isn't it for public holidays?

Didn't the players have to front up for a recovery session on Good Friday this year?

Dumb.

Another short-sighted decision from a short-sighted administration.

At least the vocal minority of intolerant churchy types will get their way.

So, who's playing next yom kippur or ramadan?

I hate the idiots that complain about people taking the holiday that don't celebrate Easter.

I'm happy to work it if you want to legislate on having Jewish and Muslim public holidays as well.

Pretty sure many people would end up with more public holidays the they currently have.

You don't want Carlton to play on Yom Kippur. The '93 GF was on Yom Kippur.

We could've done without playing on Yom Kippur in '93.
