Why are some cracking it at Fev for? He has done nothing wrong here! All he's done is play football. It's a load of bull what the media are saying. Have you see the Caro article today about Fev not being happy about the behavioural clauses? Yet the only quote in that article was his management saying they'll start negotiations soon - which means everything the media have been saying has been bull. Fev wants to stay and Carlton want him to say, something will be worked out.

Ratts looked pissed? If your trying to talk about your upcoming game and all your getting asked is about Fev's contract of course your going to be angry.

Don't believe what the media say, it's all bull.

And even more importantly Juddy wants Fev to stay....

I have no idea what is really going on with this contract but based on FACTS Fev should be given a 2-3 year incentive based deal where if he tows the line he can earn good money and if not he doesn't earn much. To say we NEED him is bull. We also need other forward options whether Fev stays or not. He should also have behavoural clauses in his contract.

My comments are based on these FACTS:

1. Fev has been with Carlton ten years and his form over that entire period has been very inconsistent. To me he owes the club a lot for sticking with him.
2. He has been well paid over that period. Money he would not get anywhere else.
3. We know he is talented but the only time he has played to a level near that talent has been when he has been on the straight and narrow.
4. His attitude at times is a distraction and bad influence on our young team.
5. Long term contracts are extremely rare these days. Hawthorn has a rule that they offer no more than 2-3 years contracts and it works.
6. When threatened with the sack earlier this year he pulled his head in and said he wouldn't drink again. Why can this not be in the contract?
7. We will be trying to land another 'big fish' this year and the more money we have available the better.
8. Fev always plays better come contract time. When he signed his last contract following good form it went downhill quickly after.
9. The club allows him to earn good money away from Carlton. Things that they are generally not happy about but they allow it.
10. We tried to trade him in 2005 and there was very little interest. I do not believe many (if any) would pay him much these days. The days of chasing 27-28 year olds is over.
11. Fev is a volitle character and with him anything can happen so why put him on a guaranteed big money 3 year deal. Too risky!

In summary I think there are good and bad points about him staying. It is such a distraction these days that I now really don't give a shite if he leaves.

There are so many positives at this club now that if people (anyone) doesn't want to be apart of it under its terms then they should leave. Simple!

I have no doubt that this is all about negotiations and the to-and-fro of contracts, the issue I have if true, is that he has decided to take it upon himself to negotiate via the media and in the public. No, I wasn't there and didn't hear it said, but others on here weren't there either and can't be sure he didn't say what has been reported.

So, IF he has said what he's said then he's out of line. Representing himself is a recipe for disaster for us and him.

Unfortunately, the more he carries on like a goose, the lower his value becomes.

Kicking a few goals in a pracci match at the G doesn't increase his value if you ask me.

Didn't he win the Coleman medal the year AFTER he signed on? And the year he signed on didn't he finish the year off in advanced to have surgury?

One thng about Fev is he has always signed on for less than he has been offered elsewhere.

Whislt this is true with most footballers wo are out of contract.... (very few leave for money).. and remnember it wasnt too long ago we were being told by the media he has been offered close to a million per year)...

we must never forget HAmill left for money and only money..... who was the last player to do a Judas and leave for $$$$$$$$???

Fev has hardly been inconsistent. Infact, since about the 50 game mark he has only been headed in one direction:

Red is his season to date, green line is if he plays all 22 games this year.

Gee he has got the avearge above 2.5 as a ten year FF when he has been our only target!

Thats it then, pay him $5 million a year for the next 5 years, he is certainly worth it

Actually he signed on for 3 years in 2005, in Round 12 he started with the groin injury. Then in 2006 he ended up winning the Coleman medal.

Fevola unhappy at behaviour clause

Quote:
The player, 27, has been agonising over his business affairs and was still yet to reach a final decision last night over whether or not to negotiate a new deal with the Blues without the help of a player-manager.

Quote:
While he could not confirm when the relationship would be formalised, Lynch said yesterday that Fevola's new contract would be a top priority once he becomes a client. "Certainly, our guys would start speaking to Carlton straight away," Lynch said.

Quote:
Swann had reported to the board that, reliability aside, it would prove safer to commit to Fevola, who would achieve veteran status in 2011, for three years given out-of-contract players will be targeted by the new Gold Coast team in two years' time.

fev needs to understand the behaviour clause is more than fair enough but so is a four year contract.. the behaviour clause can be taken out when he goes on the veterans list.

i've been an advocate for fev to sign for five years and i still believe this is beneficial for both parties..fev can and will fire and play great footy till he is 31-32.

Not the point cj, you said he only fires come contract time and then it goes downhill from there.

Plus you can hardley blame Fev for us not being a powerhouse in those dark years.
