Before the game the music lyrics was "We're not going to take it..." how true

At quarter time, the lyrics of the song was "We gotta get out of this place" how true

My first win over Freo

22 players

Over running sides in the last...good skill to have

special mention to pfeiffer and gibbs.....just saw the tv version of their plays of the days.......wowee

didn't get to see the game due to the AFL's 'unprecedented' coverage which is a @#$%&! discrase might i add.

but just looking at the stats and listening to the radio call of the game it sounds like the tackling was a real feature!

tackles:
Gibbo 10
JR 8
Carraz 7
Benchy, Pfeiffer, Waity 5
Wiggo, Simmo 4
Browne, Fev, Kruze 3

fantastic team effort.

need to have the same application next week to be competitive.

need to set the tone physically and go in hard in the contest

I watched the game this morning at 8. Fox had the game on a 16 hour delay.

Anyhow, I found there was a difference between what I heard on the radio and saw this morning.

Bentick was in everything
Grigg played well as a link up man
Carazzo did everything right
Setanta played very well he is a defender.
Waite will cop a week atleast for that hit
Pfieffer is a hard nut, and to think its only his 6th game
Judd played well, but should have kicked those two goals, looks like he could do with a little break
Hampson could be anything
Gibbs is a tackling machine, and has got so much class, should spend more time up forward
Fevola was doing things the hard way, really if he hadn't dropped so many marks and kicked so poorly he could have had 5.
The forward line needs another key forward, we need to pump some more games into Edwards

They were gifted 3 goals from poor umpiring decisions

Pros:

Bentick
- had clearances and first disposal as well as the usual tackles and in-and-under work.

Russell
- another promising game, showing signs he has a future. As was said about this time last year, if he keeps on improving, he will eventually be a good solid player. As frustrating as his small steps seem to be, time is needed.

Pfeiffer
- plays like a third year player, not a 6 game player....that said, isn't he both? Showed strength breaking tackles and getting some contested ball. Beautiful spin move near the boundary, lovely goal as well.

Gibbs
- I forget he's only in his second year. I find myself frustrated that he's not taking the world by storm, but I remind myself that he's younger than almost all of the second year players, and even some first year players in the AFL. Showed characteristic poise, class, etc.

Waite
- Gun. Athleticism enables him to make opponents look silly.

Grigg
- Coming along very nicely. Seems to be settling into AFL.

Eddie
- By the end of the year will be recognised as one of the top small forwards.

Cons:

It wasn't a particularly great game and we didn't play too well.

Fev's kicking 2008 <<< Fev's kicking 2006.

Farmer held to two goals, one from a dodgy free.

Stood up and kicked a crucial goal in the last qtr.

Named in best.

42 touches and our best (arguably BOG) v Weagles, only 2 rounds ago.

Gee, you wonder why we bother with this guy

I was pretty impressed with Edwards game, he didn't play as the alternative forward playing out of the pocket but as a strong lead up forward. Pretty much the same thing Fisher was doing all night.
Created space
Took strong marks
Generally was just involved alot more than we would have thought

Would of been nice for him to snag a couple of goals but once he eases into it, i think he looks a likely type.

I also agree. This is the best I have seen of Edwards. I haven't watched any bullants games for a while, but he showed something today.

Pros - Come from behind win, when we had almost thrown it away
AB - best game I've seen him play
Gibbs and JR 18 tackles between them
Gibbs has best tackling technique at club, was pro active and played the best and most intensely since the C'wood game
JR has improved immensely His confidence has risen, he looks like an AFL player
Grigg has looked composed since first few games. Good size, going to be good
Hammer beaten by a giant - but what a leap. Over next two years as he learns to use his leap in the centre and his athleticism to provide options he will be a great partner to Big K
Bower - remember his game agaisnt C'wood first time last year. He looked totally out of his depth, what a difference a year makes. Quick, good overhead, brave - needs a bit of work on disposal, but he is going very well
Setanta - my favourite and good to see the coach give him praise. Best spot is CHB where he can use his height and his run, some excellent work before injured. Coming back on helped us win the game. Pav got one gift before the game, one when he went on the ball and Setanta was not on him, one when I reckon Waite was picking him up and one on Setanta in the game proper. Taking on Brown and Pav in successive weeks - someone at the club must rate him. I have just seen the song after the game. he belts it out, surely Ratts must rate the passion
Waite - good but loose man in defence is the easist gig in town. I think he might be an onballer, supporting the backline and running forward to create an option. Walks could take the running half back role. Don't think Waite is strong enough in the one on ones to hold big forwards regularly, Might have a weeks holiday for silly contact with blonde Docker's face (forearm/ clenched fist). Not serious but silly and maybe costly
Judd - what a leader, still doing the tough things right to the end. hasn't got his run back yet (or the service and blocking he got at WCE) but he is doing a super job when things get hard
Fev - Well Done! Got beaten, fumbled, kicked poorly BUT he didn't once drop his head, he kept trying chasing harrassing and was finally rewarded for a great run down. Not his best game by a long way, but possibly his most mature.
Fish, much more dangerous witin the arc but must improve his kicking
Brown, Pfeiffer and Edwards coming on nicely
Eddie - what a great season he is having
Stevo and carrots - good leadership games

Are you suggesting he doesn't normally tackle? He does, and is probably one our most effective tacklers too

Pros:
- We BEAT those flowers!!!!!
- That flowerstik Farmer was kept quiet.
- We won with Fevola not having to carry us (goal wise)
- Setanta....as everyone else has mentioned the backline is his position. I hope Ratts keeps him there.
- Well done to Bentick (I was a bit sceptical but not anymore), Grigg, Bower, Gibbs, Russell and Edwards
- Flowerstik Farmer not being allowed to kick a bag of goals against us and then celebrating like the flower he is.
- My brother FINALLY taking his 4 yr old son to his 1st match (he's a BABY BLUE member thanks to me).

Cons:
- Forward 50 entries......were normally followed by me looking towards the heavens
- Not applying scoreboard pressure. We should have beaten them by 5 goals.
- Not SMASHING Farmer's head in.
- Umpire's decision against Setanta
- My nephew yelling out Go Western Bulldogs  (that's what happens when father's don't teach their kids properly - my brother doesn't care about footy - so the nephew is picking up bad habits at kinder)........an intervention might be required in the future.
- My nephew asking to leave 17 min into 1st Qtr (finally left at Qtr time).......memo to myself - bash up brother for not watching footy at home.

Here's one random observation:

Setanta is HUGE. The guy is an absolute monster, he looked even bigger than Sandilands at times during the game. I'm not sure it was a great idea to have midfielders used him and Waite as the kicking options when running forward but he certainly had a good game even if he really has to learn to pay attention during games and not let quality forwards like Pavlich run off while Setanta returns to the position he thinks he's "supposed" to play.

Setanta when you're playing full back and aren't part of the play your position is two centimeters away from Pavlich, elbowing him in the guts occasionally and keeping one eye on the play up the field so you can anticipate where Pavlich is going to lead.

We won without playing well, hell we couldn't field or goal kick if our life depended on it. How did we win this game. :?
We won without the Fev/Judd show or Jamison/Thornton book end. Real plus.
Kids are getting better, Grigg, Russell, Browne, Pfeiffer, Edwards 8) ... :-D
Fisher, Edwards & Fevola forward setup. :-D If only Fev held on to his marks and took his chances.
Did I mention Carrazzo's job in the BP on Farmer. That's his spot people.

PROS:

Our players worked harder when Freo had the ball. Our intensity caused their errors.

We negated their small forwards

Many of our younger players featured prominently when it counted.

CONS:

Not putting them away earlier
The last disposal / decision to create a scoring chance came undone all too often
Too many forwards that are not confident with their kicking

Pros

Gibbs....liked his game, didnt try and be fancy but did all the things I expect of a good footballer and his ten tackles showed he was intense and playing for the team.

Grigg.....really warmed to Grigg as a player, took me a while but i enjoy watching him play and thought he did some good stuff and looking more established.

Bentick....got some rewards this week for effort and needs to back it up with some similar games....always been happy with his workrate/tackles etc he just needs to hurt teams a bit more and will be a more highly regarded player by others...I have always thought he was a good footballer..

Hampson...did a good job IMO and showed he doesnt needed protecting by inferior C grade ruckman...

Setanta...contested well, got in Freo players faces and gave us some grunt factor...

Eddie...nice game and is a polished underated player....happy for Leon Davis/Wooneremi etc to get some press while Eddie flys under the radar

Cons

General skill errors still happening under pressure and with no pressure.....

Interviewed on MMM with boyfriend Andy Lee (Hamish and Andy). Appears Andy is a Carlton supporter and now so is Megan. They were both in the rooms after the game.

As for the game

Special mention to the non high profile guys ....Grigg (appears to be finding his role), Edwards (tough gig playing CHF) and Browne (gutsy little guy).
