We should celebrate the occasion by spanking Freo on Saturday.

And if we do, I'll give myself a spanking afterwards...Laurie Daley style.

Someone should let Essendon* and Collingwood know that there is another Victorian club who might reach 50,000 members first (refer to todays Pulse section of the Herald Sun)...

Sweet. there's a one day old girl my wife made that'll be signing up over the next days as well.

I feel all gooey inside that Kevin Sheedy was the Bombers' 40,000th and a wee boy whose name we never knew is ours. Not criticising the Bombers per se - I just like the Carlton signing.

The best news is, the 40K member was not a dog, a cat, or a contrived legend of the club....

It was a supporter. Doing his job.

Great stuff.

I believe Bombers nos include non match day members that AFL does not count in its offical tally, our dosen't. We should be second in Vic behind Collingwood.

So we announced 40000 members, yet not a word in the press?

What gives? :?

There is a small blurb at the end of the Ratts article about Freo.

If they showed that in Sydney the club would have more members

This is a fantastic result. Financially, if we equate the average cost of a membership across that 40,000 to $200 (all categories, concession, adult, premium memberships, baby, junior, etc) then revenue collected is around $8M. If we had the same membership numbers as last year, around 35K @ $200 a pop, then thats around $7M in revenue, so a difference of an extra $1M is just an enormous effort

From memory in previous years our average membership spend is around $160. The vast majority are silver members but the extras that some people pay for gold etc are cancelled out by kids memberships pretty evenly.

What's most pleasing is the rise since the end of 2002. A lot of people (myself included) wouldn't purchase memberships while Elliott was President because of the sense that he was simply pissing it down the toilet and was at best contemptuous of members. In a similar way they dropped 5000 under Smorgon in 2006.

Black Friday brought a large jump in membership as people rallied behind the club in its hour of need but there was also a significant boost from those relieved to see the back of Jack.

Under Elliott our highest ever membership was about 27,500. If we hit 41250 this year it'll be a 50% rise on our best year under Elliott. Based on an average spend of $160 that's $2.2M extra into the club this year alone.

I am not quite sure what relevance Elliott or Smorgan bashing has to do with the club getting 40,000 members. What is important is that Mr Pratt has lead the way and embraced and unified ALL Carlton people along with a little help from Swanny and Juddy.

Nice touch with the little kid getting presented the 40,000 membership from the players.

That's just awesome!

For all the negativity on here about things, this shows just how much the Club is actually coming together. And for the playing group to chip in and buy this little kid his membership... well it almost brings a tear to my eye. Just awesome! Congratulations to everyone involved.

"Chip in" makes it sound as though they had a hard time coming up with a couple of hundred dollars between them

Apparently we are only the second vic club (collingwood the other) to ever post 40,000 ticketed members. Essendon* DONT have 40k ticketed they have around 36,500. the Bombers have always counted non match day members in their final totals. The AFL dont include these in the final figures. The cats and Hawks both have more then Essendon* at present.
We have the most junior memberships of any AFL team.
We have had the most growth in membership over the last 4 years.
