Simon Black had more clangers than any of our blokes.
Carlton 49 clangers
Brisbane 48 clangers

Good, he obviously needs a spell in the ressies with Gibbs, and JR as well because I didn't hear his name on the radio much

IIRC he had three kicks inside 50 to leading forwards tonight. Not all of them came off due to timing and Brisbane having players back, but all were perfectly weighted kicks. Give him some more experience and some more confidence and he'll be slotting footballs down our forwards throats for a long time you'd reckon.

Goes to show what can happen when you recruit a bloke who's already a footballer, rather than recruiting an athlete and trying to change him into one. When I heard we drafted him, I just got a weird feeling we'd gotten our hands on a beauty, I can't explain it.

I know what you mean when you say you've got a weird feeling someone will be a bargain. I felt the same way when I heard we picked Aaron in the rookie draft when he was AA at the U18 carnival and was the quickest player at draft camp. Joseph is the type of quick footballer we need if he can take them on and live up to the pre-draft comparisons to Foley.

We haven't had a pure rover with speed in ages.

A few clubs and the Bombers might come to regret overlooking the quick Joseph with a late pick.

Wisbey rated him at 33 in his rankings.

Didn't expect to win last night, lets face it Brisbane are years ahead of us in terms of development and maturity so 6 goals aint so bad. BUT, why it takes Ratts until half time to man up the extra guy on Fevs has no explanation. Fevs is our only avenue to goal so needs to be isolated at every opportunity.

Just on your Jackson comment, mjonc ...

If it was the huddle I was in (so to speak), Teague's beef was more that he was playing his own game - not that he wasn't putting in.

That was the huddle. Same principles apply though across the board, if you're in it for yourself Ratts, Judd and Teague won't stand for it, that's the Carlton of old where leadership sorts out the men from the boys.

PROS

1. S Browne. Is a real player this bloke, and a great draft steal. For a bloke so young his composure (and skill) is a joy to watch.

2. Sugar has gone forever. I felt sick in the guts watching him, and very nearly threw the remote through the LCD.....the only thing that stopped me was that I was in a hotel room

3. Bettsy you ripper. Great chasing/tackling harrasing etc. He's really come of age this year.

4. Simmo (all class), Bower Bird, Jamo, Murph, Scotto, JR, Krooz in flashes (how good will he be !?)

5. Not getting thrashed, as looked the case a few times. A nice change from the "lay down" Pagan era.

CONS

1. Having to endure Sugar again......even if was for the very last time.

2. Improving but still a long long way from being a force. Patience is a virtue if you're a blue bagger.

3. Gibbsy in the backline. Pago "educated" him there for too long and now he's back down there again. Please let him play across the centre or half fwd.

4. Waiting for Judd to approach 100%. Reckon he's at 85% tops, never ever turns it over, and does some nice things, but has rarely broken the lines like he used to. Aker gave him until August to get right, he maybe a good judge.

5. Fev's spray at Bower (for which he apologised after the game apparently). No need for that sh#t, at least BBird was having a crack and trying to get something going.

PROS:

Fevola, Betts, Murphy, Kruezer
Grigg improved
Jamison is our best defender.
A slightly improvement of Setenta

CONS:

1. AGAIN it's the bloody freaking tackling. Not many players can laid an effective tackle. It's really frustrating to watch. I remembered a brisbane lion player broke off 3 of our tackles in a row.
2. Way too many players running at jogging pace.
3. Too many softies, this is a big worry IMO. We have too many players that gets pushed off too easily. Fisher practically got pushed onto the ground in every contest, and stays on the ground which leads to my point 4.
4. Non-existence of 2nd efforts. Gives up too easily. Once an opponent side stepped our player, our attitude is mostly like "yeah you beat me, off you go".
5. Can't play 4 quarters of footy.
6. Waite has a dumb footy brain.
7. Ackland - Get the F out of our club, you are a retard.
8. Jamison's injury, huge loss!
9. Scotland's kicking to our forward 50, He just kicks the ball high in the air hopes for the best, which results in a turn over most of the time. Wasted too many opportunities, he demands the ball from our young kids too much and he stuffs up too many times. He's been doing this since the pre-season games.

Must say it was the first Carlton game I have been to with Ackland playing (OS for 07 season), and boy, he was even worse than I thought.

Out of all the inept ruckman we have had over the past 6 years, he would be the worst. He cant ever play again, Can't we sack him now and promote a rookie. I know we have to pay him out, but on that performance alone, is a disgrace to himself (he puts in little to no effort) and the club (making us look ridiculous for drafting him).

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't he on $300k p.a.

As soon as I had heard we had got him, being in the UK at the time, I sent the same text to 15 people back home looking for some logic in it. some said we needed a ruckman (yes but not literally any ruckman) and on 300k a year, who the hell figured that one out.

Must of been Denis trying to get sacked, or knowing he was about to and decided to do get Ackland as a parting gift to the club.

I completely cracked it with Ackland last year and went to the game with little to no expectation that he would contribute anything positive to the side. With this mentality I was able to enjoy the one or two good things he did for the night and come away happy with that.

I wish him all the best for the Bullants for the rest of the season.

Still along way in my opinion,Murphy,Gibbs,Bower,Kreuser and Browne is not a lot of rising players as other clubs have their players also. I say we need at least another 7 players that really have to be good players. I think Hampson should come good but he will take time. I rate Jamieson as a o.k player.

Bagging Gibbs really shows how stupid some of you are.

Dane I reckon you have the blinkers on like a few others in relation to Gibbs because of his reputation.

Rather than replying with something personel and stupid have a look at the review of him in "Talking Recruitment" then compare that to what he has dished up this year.

Any 16 year old who can kick 6 goals and get 37 possessions in the SANFL has to have something special about him and there are times where he shows this

But Gibbs is lacking confidence. He coughed up the ball too easily at times last night.

He is also soft a view shared by many including opponents.
Only Gibbs can turn this reputation around.

He has quality but needs a few weeks in the 2s to find the footy.
Frankly he looks lost and isnt playing with intensity.

Agree.....Gibbs is lacking confidence and looks scared to make a mistake.
He does take his eyes off the footy a bit too much but as other have pointed out he is still a kid and only a second year player but he has to correct that fault.
He played on the ball at Glenelg and rested down forwad on the flank and thats where I would be playing him......some might not like it but I think its time to bench the likes of Carrazzo/Stevens and have Gibbs take his turn in their spots..
Maybe lower the bar as well...Gibbs wont be a megastar but a very good player, the extra speed of AFL footy and his lack of express pace makes it harder for him to do the brilliant stuff you associate with other young stars like G Ablett etc.....

By the time Bryce is 21 or 22yo he WILL be a star of the likes of Simon Black, Jimmy Bartel, Luke Hodge etc.
Don't make the mistake of underselling him ... Bryce and Browney ..GUNS!

Didnt get smashed by 80 points -would have last year
Murphy a tremendous game -now also kicking goals
Fevola - tackling -0.3 to start but fought back -5.4 was a good result
Jamison -towelled Bradshaw -done Medhurst - only really been beaten by Richo comprehensively this year
Another game into grigg bower gibbs Cruise jamison browne

Cons

Brisbane best side on the park for the year -only lappin and luey to come back

Blues - houlihan WALKER thorton bannister cloke out of best side -arguably Hampson and Hartlett out of that side

Ackland -I argued it was a dumb decision on Friday -Hampson had to be preferred
Disappointing games Fisher Ackland Carrazzo waite

As for Gibbs wasnt his best games but do people realise he is 2 months older than cruiser - surely we can be patient - prefer him on a wing or in midfield -go back and look at Collingwood game to see how good he is
Lets wait and judge him in awhile not when he is 19
PS To those who still think Justin Sherman is a dud -thought he looked ok on the weekend

Pros:

Ackland might have just signed his own delisting papers with yet another inept performance.

We managed to maintain some pride and decency and didnt bend over like we would have last year.

Marc Murphy revelling in having the taggers chase Juddy around.

Bower gets better every game i reckon. Still the odd wayward pass into the forward line but this guy is part of the future.

Fev. They play 3 blokes on him every week and he still scores. When he is taking contested marks and kicking goals he is awesome.

Santy standing up to J. Brown - sure in the big picture it meant nothing, it was just nice to see somebody stand up the huge lump of a bloke, look him in the eye and say I'm not scared of you, bring it on (con was that J. Brown then went and did just that!!)

Cons:

tackling and 2ndefforts. Been said elsewhere, poor

cheap turnovers.

Poor centre clearances, watching Brisbane players walk through the middle untouched.

Brad Fisher and 50m penalties

Seeing Ackland in a Blue Guernesy!!
