Nice article Jarusa, but why no mention of Luke O'Sullivan :)

Technically his career was not cut short as he was nearly a 10 year player at Carlton - testament to "Rhino's" tenacity and courage to keep fighting back after injuries which would have stopped others dead in their tracks.

I can't claim credit for that one, molsey put that together and it uses material from the Blueseum, most of which was done by TC's own Pat's Fitztrick.

Great article.

Justin Davies....??

Besides knocking up your girlfriend..allegedly... and going home what was his injury?

Heath Culpitt and the 2 crazy gang members Norman and Angwin.... is this cut short by a brain injury.... they forgot to use theirs.... at a time that it was needed most....

Ya know, when I think of career cut short by injury - I think of O'Sullivan.

Can'y remember too many specifics about football in my childhood - but i'll never forget o'sullivan falling over that freakin' mound of grass on the 50 metre line in the fosters cup? game against the doggies.

What a great player.

Along with Heaver and Minton-Connell - he was one of my favorite players as a kid.

He had a back injury that kept him out of most of the 2006 season.

Ang Christou comes to mind - missed the best part of three years of footy with his back.

Would have missed a lot more without it... :P

I liked finding the Whitehead picture gallery in the Blueseum....and being able to link it in.

For those who like the linked versions of the articles, with links to all games, players and galleries listed, please have a read here:

I think his over-riding problem was not being that good to begin with.

Definitely a line there - but I'm not going to use it in case you really are Adam Chatfield. :P

Definitely Motley. Started his first year slowly but another pre-season and he was burning in the practice matches before the car accident.

Trent Hoppner and Blake Campbell were ruined by injuries before they even got into gear.

Might i add a one more for consideration..

1) Keith Warburton , 1951-1955.... Regarded as one of the greatest aerialists to play for Carlton. Almost died of a ruptured bowel and burst intestine following a knock to the stomach in 1952.
Ripped his kidney in an end of season match in 1954 before busting his knee in 1955.

Good pick-up 7dominator. Warburton has been suggested for this topic in a few places (and was actually in the second last draft of the article!) given his dramatic story of abdominal damage in multiple incidents.

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... +Warburton

Add Warburton to O'Brien and Kekovich, and key forwards for Carlton have definitely taken their fair share of damage and pain whilst playing the game.

His son, Peter, also played with the Blues for 4 games in the ealry 1970's.

http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php? ... +Warburton

If anyone has details on Peter, we would love to see them in the Blueseum.

Scott Freeborn's career came to a sudden halt as a result of injury.

What about Ross Ditchburn - had to turn his back on his career due to family farm.
