I knew the person who did that, headbut to Langdon, no charges were laid and it was all overblown by the media.

He claimed at the time that Langdon shoved a little kid or something (my memory is a little stretched on that part).

A few days later he gets a call at home from Eddie McGuire wanting a comment, not sure how he tracked him down.

Thus coining my most favourite bombers friend baiting phrase of the last 10 years.

"Who's on MATTY LAPPIN".

i didn't coin it.

He did.

But I used it ever since. Matty Lappin was a long standing member of the APWAE club that Brad Pearce was given life membership to.

The Always Plays Well Against Essendon* club.

Peter Cransberg was part of the APWAC brigade.

I think that phrase was coined in the dying few moments when a kick went flying out to the Carlton forward line with no player within 30 metres of him. I believe his man was Mark Mercuri.

True, but I would have to put up with some Digby Morrell/Clarke/Johnson.Harford or some other random hack who decided to play a decent game that day praise, and its too much. Hense the absence from my list of anything from 2002-07. This year is far different as we easily have our best side since 2001 (even if we win the same or less than 2004, that side sucked it just got lucky).

you would also have to endure sam kekovich's horrible commentary - absolutely ruined that game

Round 11, 2000 vs North Melbourne

A game where Kouta went on a rampage kicking 5 goals, gathering 38 possessions, 8 marks while playing at CHB nullifying Wayne Carey in the process.

As a side note, Ryan Houlihan also made his AFL debut.

Agreed. It was absolutely diabolical. And then we also had Glen Manton's fairly insane drivel as well.

1995 v Geelong - One of the best home and away matches of the last 20 years, we just snuck home by 3 points, was obviously a lot more in the GF
1995 v Adelaide - Behind by nearly 5 goals in the 3rd, ended up winning by almost that much
1995 v West Coast - Another classic 1 point win
1996 v Geelong - Thrashed the Cats down on their turf in the last round of the season. Shame we had to go interstate twice and went out of the finals pretty quick
1998 v Western Bulldogs - Hamill and Whitnall running riot, we scored nearly 30 goals against the would be preliminary finalist
1999 v Essendon* (Prelim of course!) - Doesnt get much better than that
2000 v Collingwood - Nice to thrash the Pies on our home turf, it was 111 in the end, but at one stage in the last looked like we could do 150 or so
2001 v Essendon* - 3 guns missing, up steps Murray Vance, and we still won!
2001 v Essendon* - Skinny scores 5, including a great one off the ground.

you picked some great games there mate.

all the stuff pre 95 is before my time, but i still remember being glued to the telly as a 11-12 year old in 95 taping the game againt the cats

- when brad pearce pinched the ball of john barnes and slotted it on his left off one step from 45 out to the heatly stand end in the 3rd qtr.

also braddles lunge to touch the ball just before it went through for a cats goal to save the game.

that was an epic for me.

a few weeks latter was my first ever blues game live, which happened to be that game againt the crows. 5.3 down and the half before reversing that margin in the second half. i'm glad i got a taste of suburban footy before it died. standing on the beer cans and the biggest urine-al i've ever seen.

the next week was pretty special aswell, 85K at the G for a top of the table clash against the tiges, harry 300th. all tied up at 3 qtr time before a barnstorming last qtr and a 5 goal win.

other games that stick out other than all those unlikley wins against the dons...many of them.

a good win againts the up and coming lions - around 98? heaver kicked 4 in a night match.

the game lance pants-ed malloy up there - kicked 8 or 9 and kouta was awesome...that handball to ang was SPECIAL...

mark porters first game and tap to braddles for a LOOOONG running goal from the center.

hard forght wins again the tigers at night with crazy goals from ratten and brown from boundary. also skinny went nuts one night.

loved this game....earlyish in 98 when we were shit...4 point come from behind win against the premiers in adelaide at footy park at night. 6/7 goal second qtr set it up. awesome team effort...just a purely beautiful game to watch and bask in. loved that one. the under dogs get up. so happy for the ture blues in the crowd that night.

gee what else was in my collection....all these game by the way i had on one of about 60 or so VHS tapes which i donated to deano to one day get them on the web. they are in good hands though.

that cats game in round 22 of 96... i thought we were cherry ripe for back to back..kernahan one, two three bites!!! shit hot game that. SOS smashed gazza again and justin murphy was an assasin!!!!

i love this club...so many top memories...

another perosnal fav was the 97 ansett cup GF mainly because i was playing rep footy in melb that week (i grew up on the NSW south coast) and i can remember going completly ape shit when dean rice kicked the sealer againt the saints in the semi/prelim the week before which meant i would get to see the blues live for the 3rd or 4 time in my life.

truly special memory. was a great game too. another where J murphy shone.

how could i forget. round 12 2000 at PP, kouta destorys north to claim second spot out right...sammy big mark on the wing right in front of me.

also enjoyed the 1 pnt win against the pies at the end of 04.banno kicks 3 while 'tagging' buckley!

fantastic atmosphere with nothing to play for but pride and bragging rights for 6 months!!! sitting with my pies die hard cousin was a LOT of fun. he was pretty good about it though.

wow man, i dont mean to disrespect....but generally speaking that was a pretty average game of footy. and looking at your age it just goes to show how ture blue you really are. you've grow up in the darkest era of the club, and to still speak about the club with the warmth you do is a great thing.

man you've had nothing but shit to deal with, with us hey.

i feel like a smuck when people say when did you start following the blues and i say "ohh way back in 95" i may aswell have MUG written on my forward head. all you have to say is andrew eccles was my idol and no bodies got shit on you man.

respect....if only you could be old enough to really connect with just the games i grew up on and i'm only 8 years your elder....imagine what the 70's and 80's were like!!!!!!!!

you (our) time in the sun will come and all the hardship will be worth it.

and walker's first game wont be in our top 50 in a about 6-8 years time.

rememeber fevs last game in the grannie when he kicked 8 against the south port shark's...kruze and judd were out of this world and kouta and sos^3 were somethin else!

I guess I fall somewhere in between, being 27, I remember the 87 premiership (though wasnt old enough to appreciate it), I was following pretty heavily from 88 onwards, and I remember thinking 89-91 was bad!
95 was when I started going week in week out (probably went to 8-9 a year before then) and its continued ever since.

So dealing with the 2002-07 period has been tough, but it must be bloody horrible if your like 17-18 now and you may have a faint memory of the 99 Prelim, but when some of your best footy memories involve Digby, Johnson, Kenna and all those other random hacks which make our 89-91 sides seem like world beaters, my hat goes off to all of you. Don't fret, its going to be much better from here!
