This competition is so even, we could easily make finals.

Exactly, bugger this business about being rational, reasonable and coming out with the bland "8-10 wins blah blah blah blah blah".

We are a decent chance to be 5-4 after the freo game.

This playing group is going to get a sniff then, I'm expecting a very exciting second half of the season.

I'm going to expect finals and I AM GOING TO BE SHITTY IF WE DO NOT MAKE THE FINALS!!

Just the way it should be!

Spot on....I would love to see Gibbsy with a sniff of finals action. He is the sort of player that would lift as he is ultra competitive. We know Judd and Stevens will lift but the improvement would come from the youngsters.

Not sure how Fev, Waite, Fisher, Carazzo, Sentata, Betts, Thornton, Simpson, Bower would go. They are the bulk of the core group that will determine if we have FA.

Being generous i think we will.

R8 - Beat Brisbane
R9 - Beat Freo
R10 - Lose Geelong
R11 - Lose Port
R12 - Beat Collingwood
R13 - Beat Essendon*
R14 - Beat Richmond
R15 - Beat St Kilda
R16 - Lose Sydney
R17 - Lose Bulldogs
R18 - Lose Adelaide
R19 - Lose Port
R20 - Lose Kangaroos
R21 - Lose Brisbane
R22 - Lose Hawthorn

Thats 9 wins - Maybe we could snag a win v port or the roos at the dome but we could also drop a game against collingwood, Essendon* or richmond - even brisbane at the dome is iffy.

I think 9 wins is generous and thats a horror run home fixture wise

If it pans out like that we'll be 9 and 6 after round 15 which would put us somewhere between 4th and 7th based on last year.

we have beaten easy teams so far (except maybe collingwood). we dont play melbourne or wce again. we might beat richmond, Essendon*, freo....and maybe collingwood or port. maybe next year

When did we become a great team that beating easy teams was a given?

Wow..i do get excited about the prospect!!!

However, I don't think it's a 50/50 more like a 35/65.

AND...if we don't but we are close I just hope and hope that we can build upon it for next year...cos to underperform next year would be a bloody shame IMO.

A fair post, but have a look at our losses

R1 Richmond - Got off to a good start and fell away from there as the lack of fitness from some of our senior players wasnt quite there

R2 St Kilda - Another great start, fitness not quite there yet and we were far too lose through the midfield.

R3 Essendon* - Ahead late in the 3rd Qtr. Screwed by the umpiring on the night.

R6 Adelaide - Ahead again in the 3rd Qtr before we fell away. Down to 2 fit men on the bench inc Browne who was struggling. A lose to a potential Top 4 side is nothing to be ashamed of.

Our midfield is performing much better and we're not giving up as much defensively because of it.

The players are gelling better, there is so much improvement to come as Judd and the rest of the team learn to work together.

The good news is we've been in a winning position in every game and ahead by at least 2-3 goals in all our losses.

We could quite easily be sitting at 5-2. Anything can happen from here on.

You forgot to mention that we also got killed in the ruck in every one of those games. We need a ruck division if we are to make finals this year.

As I was overseas for our 07 season I haven't seen the great man in action for us. Whats it like? How does he stack up with our great ruckman like Smith, Ricky Mott, Dylan McLaren & Barnaby?

Barnaby is our Cox compared to the lot you mentioned inc. Ackland :)

According to Sportsbet the Bluers are quoted at 3:1 to make the final eight.

You better jump on now 'coz after we beat the Pussies and win our 4th in a row the odds will be a lot shorter

To be a genuine finals chance, there has to be some more wins against sides above us on the ladder.

We have surely improved, but there is still a way to go yet.

However, unlike the false dawns that have ocurred one or two times in the past, the potential to improve further is definately there.

There were only ever a couple of false dawns over the past 5 years, the rest of the time it was the blackest of nights - unrelenting and depressing.

But now the new Carlton day has begun, but it is still early morning. Just a few shafts of early morning sunlight are appearing...

So far, ALL the teams we've beaten this year were above us on the ladder come September
