For the first time in ages, I actually agree with Mike Sheehan.

I'm a believer now - we really have turned the corner!

Carlton announces resurgence

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/ ... 42,00.html

BRETT Ratten said it was time. Time for Carlton to announce its re-emergence as a credible football team.

In his parting message to players before they left the rooms at Subiaco Oval on Friday night to tackle West Coast, he said: "Let's send a message to everyone - we're the f---ing real deal."

It was an extension of his theme at the team meeting three hours earlier, when he said: "We can send a message to the whole AFL they better start taking us serious."...

Great read.

Incredible insight into the pre-game goings on and also great to see such passion from Ratts and Braddles.

I really liked this line...

Riley discussing Dean Cox - "I'm not sure how I say this (with a reporter present) . . . but if that big size 15 appears in front of you, don't walk round it. Don't go out of your way, don't Josh Carr him, but he's their No. 1 player."

I LOVE this quote from Ratts. He's got faith in the boys.

Quote:
"Get our handballs up . . . switch the footy and go. Take a punt. If you make a blue, I'll live with it."

The days of being punished for little slip-ups are far behind. That will stop the guys playing only for their own spot, and get them taking risks for the team (See Bower's run from HB in the last, which set up the sealer)

:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

"With Juddy, any shenanigans, we're f---ing 100 per cent flying the flag. We want everyone to see how much we want him, love him, that sort of stuff," he says.

There is no doubt that last year we would have folded up like a cheap tent in the last quarter when challenged like that by ANY side.

The fact that we faced the challenge from the Eagles and fought them toe to toe and won is a huge step forward for this group of players.

The next few weeks are the important ones.

Last year we hyped the game against Hawthorn at TelstraDome after a few wins and we got smashed by 100 points.

Now is the time for this group to stake a claim for what they are worth - wins are a bonus - but what I want to see are fair dinkum 100% efforts for the next few weeks - win lose or draw.

Nice read from Mike Sheahan.

A lot of people are writing about the injuries they had but we also had a big group missing:
Walker
Hartlett
Bannister
Thornton
Hadley
Houlihan

I think they are all going to get a game when they are back .

I think we did well and if we play 4 quarters next week we are a chance.
You can only play against the team they put on the field against you so let's not dwell onplaying an injured Weagles outfit or a Brisbane one. Just go out and play.

What a great read. Loved the line from Braddles. Riley sounds good with the players as well. Jeez I get pumped up when I read that sort of thing!

Go Blues!

Great article, but may have missed the real story.

It's what happened after (not before) the game that may be the REAL news 8)

Anyone remember the "The Giant Awakens" headline + story in the early 90's when we first started to come good?

Best article i've seen by Mike about Carlton for ages.

He's written some shockers though - anyone remember his two page spread before the '99 GF?

Glad to have brought a bit more joy to everyone's post match celebrations!

we're looking much better than last year, and with a few more good players developing we'll be out of our shitty patch

Loved it, tingles in the spine sort of read. Love the fact that Braddles and Ratts are working with Riley what a team.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the intteraction between Kennedy and our players.

Great insight from Mike. I love hearing that stuff, the passion from Ratts the emphasis they're placing on looking after each other.
