So your pithy little quotes tonight in the game thread were sarcasm Ryan8024?

I think the criticism of Carrazzo is laughable. Yes, he turned it over a couple of times and no he is not the best user of the footy the game has ever seen but when you get it 42 times you will never hit all your targets. Get off his back.

Browne - can play
Irish - cracking game, back to 07 form
Wiggggooooooo - nuff said
Judd - flower he stood up when he needed to
Stevo - nice effort
Bower - good again. Improving each week.
JR - IMproved again. The irony of Armstrong kicking into him on the mark ... priceless.

Cons -
Stopping and high fiving when 8 goals up.
JK - sad. Like Tommi, the boys getting round him at the end made me tear up too. Why couldn't he pull a standout game for us like that!
Channel 7 - Rosa has been important in the last quarter? WTF are you on Bruce you old queen. Rosa is the biggest fraud since Chad Felcher. Both those flower got found out as front runners tonight.
Carrazo. A lot of stats to nowhere. I just don't see what he brings to the table over AB.

Sherman :?:

Others have praised Setanta's game, but I didn't rate it all tonight.

He's better down back, but a good player will take him to the cleaners when Jones kicked one on him whilst WCE were struggling.

I have my heart in my mouth when Setanta has to spoil or run the ball out of the backline.

I can't wait for Thornton to come back.

Great to see Kennedy do well.

Bower is a gun.

Great closing speed and reach when he wraps himself around an opponent like SOS before he spoils the ball. Bower looks like SOS reborn when he takes off with his funny running style and doesn't get caught. :-D

Browne can play.

Great to see Kennedy play well. :) :(

We will need Hampson against Brisbane's giant rucks and might move Kreuzer forward to cover for that idiot Fevola.

Russell smothering the Armstrong kick closed the book on that mistake.

AWWWWWW, Stevens. 8)

Carrazzo is doing a great job in the absence of Houlihan, but his kicking still lets him down.

Great to get a win without Walker, Bannister, Thornton, Hadley, Hartlett and Houlihan. 8)

A good side would have smashed us.

You're righty juzzy. I forgot about Sherman because he hasn't had a kick in two seasons. Rosa is the new Sherman - talked up bigtime in his first year because of the blokes around him and the easy kicks he gets and then just goes missing when the heat is on. Fraud.

Pros
-Simmo's courage to play on and score that goal in the last, finishing off some superb team running
-Grigg's composure, he wasn't the difference between a win and a loss, but he showed plenty tonight
-Murphy, again, not terribly influential, but he is a footballer's footballer, his strength in the packs will be as good as Judd's by the end of next season
-Stevens, was fantastic all night, won some good footy in tight and some of his longer foot passing was unbelievable
-Judd, forget possessions, his toughness around the stoppages probably saved us a goal or two late in the third, and his pack buster to set up Gibbs in the last was true leadership (David Schwarz must be sacked, he called Judd serviceable, then Buckley pwned him with some astute observations)
-Judd again, that foot pass from his centre clearance to Fev was CHAMPAGNE FOOTBALL
-As noted in the game thread, being challenged like that and winning strongly in the end will do more for our self belief and character than a lazy 12 goal win would have done
-The boys relationship with Josh, while it was sad to watch, it shows that our boys are forming a strong bond, and given the introduction to AFL football they have had this will stand them in good stead, we are going places!!!

Cons
Will all be celebrating at the Souvlaki Hut this week ... GO BLUES YOU @#$%&! LITTLE BEAUTIES

:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

You are spot on Simonverbeek....Centre Half Back for Waite.

Con- Our Structure with Fev as a lone forward holds back our long term development. Move Waite Forward and let O'hailpin develop as the Center Half Back. He can do it. It may cost us a game early but for the good of the team he has to play there. There is no one on our list who can fulfill the CHF role in the next 2 years, apart from Waite, so end this short term tactic of Waite at Center half Back and move him to CHF.

Great move Ratts. CHB for 8 years

Agreed. Waite is Chad Cornes-esque at CHB. Why on earth would we want to move him when he is finally playing consistent football for the first time in his career AND has stablised what has been the worst backline in he league for the last 5 years?

Yes we have forward line problems. But moving Waite forward is not the answer IMO. Possibly this is the season to consider trading a 1st round pick for another quality forward option. The rest of the side seems to be shaping up alright to me (unfortunately the only forward who ever get traded are the nutcases like Tarrent, Farmer and Medhurst).

For those who think the likes of Carrazzo get cheap stats: if he wasn't there to get the handball, who is?

There were occasions where we played namby pamby handball and if the link ain't there to receive - we turn it over. Carrazzo presents - this is a good thing

I thought gibbs stepped up tonight. He has been on the cusp of moving on and tonight was where he moves on from. He was playing like he belonged rather than seeing if he fitted. Good work mate.

Carrazzo NEEDS to work on his kicking. His 42 possessions could have equated to 6 more goals tonight if he had've made them count but his kicking is atrocious.

Kreuzer will come on well. We need to watch our contracts over the next 5 years. I fear (and feel) we will lose some of our bright young stars in the near future. I really hope not, but it's a reality.

And - I don't know how we came to almost lose a game we were 8 goals up by. That needs to be emphasised - if you're 8 goals up you ALWAYS win.

Pros -
-Our defense is looking very very good. Bower and Jamison are on fire. Jamo's opponent McKinley was goalless, while Bower launched many attacks for us
- Murphy is all class. Every touch found a target
- Carrazzo & Scotland played their roles to perfectionand mopped up everything
- Judd & Stevens showed their leadership qualities when we were challenged. Last year we would have capitulated rather thansteady and run away with the victory.
- Gibbs -GUN
- Grigg- is fast becoming one of my favourites and is starting to get more comfortable. He has arrived.
- J R's best half of football. Needs to keep that up for 4 qtrs.
- Benticks tackling & his inside work was phenomenal. For those that think he is not up to it as he is too slow, remember he did this at Subiaco wher slow players are easily found out. Very underated player.
-Simpsons & Fishers running was great
- Browne for a 2nd gamer is very composed

Cons

- Waite. Although he was serviceable, my heart misses a beat every time he approaches the ball.

- No hit outs. Can we please play Hampson and push CLoke or Kreuzer forward.

Yet another pathetic showing in the match day thread when we looked in trouble.

QFT

That veteran player Gibbs seems to be a favorite target at times; must be good to jump on a young kids back about something in the hope you'll be able to claim you were first to spot a flaw in their game...

Gibbs must be taken off from kicking in Duties. Just cant understand why we have to give 2 goals a game because of Gibb's errors!!!!!

Pros:

Betts - Is becoming ARROGANT, this is a massive development in his game. He is going to be a 2+ goal FP plus defensive skills, what an asset.

Bower - Future star, takes them on and has the ability to do it. About time we got this back.

Bentick - GLUE

BENTICK IS GLUE he stuck it all together tonight. When the hard shit needed to be done HE DID IT.

Stevens - Saw some real leadership materia from NS tonight, I have been a critic in the past but tonight he really stood up when the game needed to be won.

We had 5 or 6 other really good contributors which was a really good sign.

Cons - None.

We won interstate, that is like climbing Everest for this team at the moment.

The first time is always the hardest, it will get easier from now on.

Good point about Bentick there Jars. He's not fancy, but was in there putting his body on the line and spilling the ball from the packs tonight and was great in the last quarter.

Pros:
- Murphy flying the flag to protect Judd
- Bower was sensational all game, and his decision to play on in the last rather than go back was a move that kick started us
- Browne, JR, Betts, Grigg, Gibbs etc.
- The last quarter showed the difference between 2007 Carlton and 2008 Carlton. 2007 Carlton would have lost this game. 2008 Carlton were able to finish stronger and kick away
- Still have Walker, Thornton, Bannister, Hadley and even Houlihan to come back into this side

Cons:
- Fev's stupid little love tap
- Watching JFK play in an Eagles guernsey
- Umpiring
- Might just be me here, but does anyone else think that Dennis Commetti has a very obvious anti-Carlton bias? Maybe it just stood out more with Ox and Bucks () talking us up so much

Good point and that is where games like tonight start to become unfair for players like Murphy.

He was great, BUT I expected it.

... and expectations have such an influence.

If you expect a player to be crap and he plays half-decently he can look better than the star who you expect top perform WIWO sometimes.

Murph is a star and we are lucky to have him.

Unfortunately for him I think he will slip under the radar of a lot the non Carlton AFL pundits over his career in much the same way Simon Black has.

Doesn't really matter for us he will put in 100% each week regardless of whatever press he gets, he is a star.
