Interesting that you'd take them any day. Both are injured

Armfield hasn't played a game.

Jackson is an unknown quantity.

Well spotted.

Kris Massie has been a complete flop everywhere else, hasn't he?

Massie is a massive dud. He's a dud in a good team.
At Carlton he would be a dud in a bad team so he would look even worse.

Jackson has shown more in his 5 or so games than Russel has in 4 years.

Comparing Russel to Walker is one of the funniest things I have heard. Walker as my log in states in a GUN with absolute speed, hunger and ability.
He can play forward, wing, on the ball and even CHB or HB.

Russel cant even be a run with player. I know we have to be patient with our kids but this is a joke, 4 years and no real improvement except for his body size which is a waste because he ball watches half the time.

Cock on the table time.

Please quantify, using real examples (no Libba just the vibe crap), what Jackson has shown that Russell hasn't.

he seems alot more poised than russel. He can do the basics like tackle, sheperd and give the easy handball where Russel make the easy things look very difficult.

We seem to FORGET TOP 10 PICK, not a pick 50 or a rookie pick. Top 10s dont need this long to be able to do the basics. Frazer although took a while to become a player always showed he had what it takes to make it (plus a ruckman always takes longer to be a star)

If you gi=uys think that Russel is the way forward for our great club then I put it to you to explain Y???? after 5 games this year what has he done to earn a spot??? where will he be in 3 years when were pushing for the flag???

Look we overpaid for him originally, but he's not in the bottom five of our list and I suspect his wage hasn't gone up dramatically from his original contract (if at all).

It's simple economics - we persist until we (he) find (finds) something better.

Looking back now, there weren't many winners in that draft.

We need to persist with Jordan. He`s not far away from being a good AFL player. Plenty of our past greats took a while to come on eg Ratts,Browney,Mil,Kouta but had the luxury of the under 19`s and resies to establish themselves. Russell hasn`t played 50 yet.

My contention is that Jackson is an unknown quantity.

Has only played 9 games, and hasn't set the world on fire IMO. Has been solid and has picked up some ok stats (if that's your thing). IMO he needs to develop his defensive side, but that's just me.

Russell has taken a long while to settle. Had some homesickness issues early on which he appears to have worked through. Pagan never really let him settle in a spot, and I reckon Jordan is the type of player that needs the coaching staff to be patient with. Since Ratts replaced Pagan I reckon Jordan has started to believe that he can be an AFL footballer. Improvements this year have been:

improved courage - Jordan now puts his head over the ball when in the past he had moments where he'd pulled out (as 99% of young players do)

Improved tackling - this was highlighted in last weeks game when JR showed great tackling, especially early on

Improved movement - JR seems to work a lot harder off the ball now. Again, using last week as an example, JR seemed to do a lot of hard running to make space for that second kick out of the defensive fifty.

Improved confidence - although he was run down, it was fantastinc to see JR take the game on in the last 1/4, breaking a couple of tackles. If one of his less-endeavoured teammates had have ran for him he may have been able to get a handball away before getting run down.

JR needs to continue to work on his decision making, as he does have a tendency to 'overthink' - you can see when he gets hold of it on the wing that his mind is running a million miles an hour - I reckon he needs to trust his instinct a bit more, but this will come as his confidence grows, now that we have a coaching staff that won't tear his heart out when he makes a mistake.

His kicking for goal, which was highlighted again on the weekend, is also a weakness. However, the fact he is taking the responsibility and having a shot is he's clear is a good sign. Once a couple slot in it'll feel more comfortable for him.

Overall I reckon JR has been one of the highlights of our season for me - it's good to see a kid that has not yet hit fifty games start to grow into himself.

Now, WAG, if you'd like to show me why Jackson has shown more then that'd be great. Remember, no vibey bullshit.

After four seasons Russell Ohlsen was delisted/cleared from the Blues in 1978? What was your opinion at the time?

I was close to losing it until i read the thread

Why was the other Number 2 wearing J Russell delisted after only about a dozen games, Jarusa?

I would persist with Russell. I think slowly but surely he has been showing signs that he might just be a player after all. He at least seems to be finding the footy a bit more now. He obviously let himself and the team down on the weekend with his shots for goal. I believe that this is totally down to a lack of confidence and not any inherent lack of skill. You could just tell in the way he ran in that he wasn't going to kick the goals, just looking nervous and getting too close to the man on the mark etc.
