not picking Setanta was always dangerous, don't flower with winning formulas.

Spot On

Con: Rattens one dimensional coaching. He needed Setanta in the Side to Move Waite to Center Half Forward to help Fev out. I think Waite went there at the end of the game - too late

Gibbs needed to play in the guts for at least a quarter today because we missed Hadley during qtr 2 & 3

Kreuzer may not be a ruckman. Either CHF or genuine Utility. Adelaide had two genuine Young ruckman today who gave their midfield first use of the ball from qtr 2 on. Hampson must be given 6 weeks in the seniors

My point is I do not think Ratten is a good coach for young talls

I still get amazed that people think they know more than the senior coach.

If nothing else, Russel has improved his trade value with Adelaide...

We played well for part of the game.
Generally seem to be improving. It will take time.
We have to learn to play against different types of games by our opponents.

We played a very experienced team.
Our team is still a very young inexperiened team.

The kicking for goal is the worst skill in the game from all teams.
It can kill you at critical moments.

Cons: Bitter Carlton supporters who seem to be happier when we lose because it gives them an opportunity to have a go at their favourite scapegoat anonymously from behind a computer.

Pros:-

NONE.................. Sorry............... not one player could hold their head high today.

Cons:-

Jesus christ where do i start? Woefull game. Truely awful. What frustrates me the most is that we are so much better than that!

What the hell is going on with our disposal? Murphy / Gibbs / Kreuzer were never that bad when they were under 18............. Do we have a skills coach? If so, questions must be asked.

This 'Tempo footy' game plan we have just isn't working. Handball and run. Use our speed. We were smashed with all that Stop/Start crap.

Russell just needs to go. I don't care how many possessions he racked up.......... he is just not cut out for it.

So the fact that none of our stars really performed and we still managed to hold our own for most of the match wasn't a pro in your book?

What a ridiculously negative post. You would think we lost by over 100 points to the worst team in the league the way some of you lot are carrying on.

now we're pathetic , have no hope - the gameplan is shit - rattens a cock - our skills are terrible and jordan russell is the devil incarnate

you guys are unreal

Pro's:
Browne's debut, great attempt at a screamer, played well, nice tackling
Russell, improved effort
Judd was flat, but we still had good runners
Cloke's enthusiasm and endeavour
Eddie Betts took another giant leap forward
We played a genuine top 4 team, yet managed to hold our own for at least 80% of the match, which shows we have really improved - last year it would have been a ten goal loss, and will be a good lesson for the youngsters
another good show from our defence, even if they did get over 100 points, they can't be questioned about how much they tried today
Fev continues to present, chase, and with his second efforts to keep the ball in the 50
Stevo ran and presented very well, Murph played his heart out
Jamo, and Bower continue to improve, Bower played his best game, imo but still had a couple of lapses
9 (yep, 9) goalkickers
west coast dropping like flies at the dome!!!!!!!!

Cons:
injuries to T-bird and Harts, 2 KPP's, hurt early in the game
slowing the game down is starting to peeve me off, lets the opposition flood back
no options to take a player away from Fev, giving him limited opportunites
poor delivery into the forward line
Simmo quiet
our decision making still costs us, but this will soon change
Russell cant kick for goal
too much sideways kicking, not enough straight down the guts
Fish hits the post running into goal
Ratts out coached, but he too is still learning
we didnt deserve to lose by 5 goals

dare i say it, but maybe losing today is not a bad thing, it will show the entire team how hard we need to work, and the areas we need to improve on. Adelaide are a very experienced team, and i thought we played them very well. while the win would have been nice, it should give ratts something to work with at training, and will inspire the players. i didnt think Fev was all that bad. this time last year, he would have cracked it quite badly and given up. it was a good show by our boys, i was proud of the effort, and only really thought we were out of it when they got 5 goals up courtesy of a stupid decision

every week is a step forward, and today was frustrating at times, but the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter, and when it does, i'll be right there to gloat about it when we finish higher than the tiges, bumbers and the woods

Pros:

We are genuinely devestated at losing to a team like Adelaide, having gone into the game expecting to win.

Cons:

Disposal and decision-making were deplorable today, but credit should go to Adelaide for the way they manned up and starved us of options.

pros, cons

its all relative.

we are improving, but we also still have along way to go.

our midfield was smashed today though - and that was where we lost the game.

double team fev? fine, play him around CHF and have Fisher and Russell, playing from the flanks, running back to the goal square behind fev and kick over the top of fev to the fisher/russell. See how long they double team fev then.

Our defence is starting to show improvement with every game but, at times we still make mistakes and that is okay, some young kids in our side.

Adelaide are a more than decent side, top 4 even, and are very well executed.

But what did frustrate me, is we did play directly into their hands and with the way some of the supporters carry on shits me no end.

they carry on when we hold posession waiting for an option, then when someone bombs they carry on asking why they did that and didnt wait for an option.

adelaide flood and get back like no otherside in the comp - and we didnt play that aspect well at all, indeed it was rubbish.

At times we needed the ball on quickly and others slow it down, but we had the tendancy to the opposite of what is needed, and that is something that we need to improve on.

Now having said that, i also look at the result like this

1 goal they got was rubbish (C U Next Tuesday Chamberlain)
2 goals we gifted them in the 3rd quarter, that probably cost us the game
the goal missed by JR in front when he kicked it to the man on the mark.

right there is 4 goal difference, but 1 was an umpire error and 3 was player error, but they also came from young kids, i have no issue with that.

we dont do that, and suddenly the game takes on a different complexion.

PRO - im pretty confident we will beat West Coast :)

Cant blame Ratten ...lost Thornton and Hartlett and was robbed of options...it also wasnt his fault we gifted the Crows several goals with inept disposal and poor decision making.
Neil Craig had the luxury of Rutten and Bock to play on Fev......put both of those players into our lineup and Ratten would look a very fine coach....

I haven't seen to many Ants games, but that's what everyone seems to be basing their opinion of Hartlett on.
IMO, he's not a senior afl player, regardless of his (frequent)injuries. I'd rather Setanta in the team any day!

Russell was better, just lacking confidence infront of goals, Browne was good on debut,Grigg worst decision maker in the AFL, Jamo will be a star.

Play Setanta at CHB, Waite at CHF, and Hampson, Kruezer, and Cloke through the ruck. Bring in Jackson for Grigg.

nice points you raise there Scott. those errors were made by the kids and are forgiveable, knowing that they will not make them much more in their careers. i think it is possible that we might have underestimated the crows today, i thought we put in a very good effort

he mightn't but certain players have been known to look as have club officials and even players parents

word would get around

and the talk on this site makes a mockery of the sponsorship.

Actually I have just realised one of his best mates (from Adelaide) is a regular on this site so you could well be right.
