Just taking a look at some telling stats. Our last quarters have been dismal this year, we have lost all five - check out the table here

Also, if you go back to last year you can see that we won only 3 of 22 final quarters for the entire year - here.

Now this is a bit of a worrying trend and im trying to work out why we are so bad at closing games. Fitness would have to be one of the main issues so i hope this is an area the club are trying to improve on. If you take a look at the Half by Half ladders, again the stats are telling. In the current season we have won 3 of 5 first halves and only 1 of 5 second halves.

Just thought id bring your attention to what is a bit of a worrying trend and trying to get some input on why you think this is such a grey area for us? Hopefully we can start improving on this as of tomorrow with a good finish against Adelaide.

it's been said a million times on here that our new fitness coach has said that there are only 2 players on our list fit enough to play afl and that we aren't even fit enough to play vfl. this is quite worrying but something we should be able to fix by the time we are a premiership force.

If thats the case, thats pathetic to be honest. We are only a few games into the season with a whole pre season under our belt, and for a team that trains 5 times a week or whatever it is profressionally, how is it that only 2 players of 45 are fit enough for AFL???

It would have to be AW and Jackson surely. They are in a league of their own in the 3km time trial IIRC.

From memory it was Walker and Bannister.

I reckon Carrazzo was one and I think Bentick the other.

I think Cordy said that when he arrived at the club at the start of last pre-season. Hopefully there's a few more AFL fit players now.

it's not the players...it was the game plan. We will win a few more second halves and 4th quarters, if we keep playing the same game plan we have adopted the last two weeks. Just look at Essendon* and their fitness level now, playing the fast flowing game...it takes alot out pf the players...the only team fit enough to play that style of game plan for 4 quarters is Western Bulldogs.

i think the fact that we battled all day 2short against a fit, physical and discipline side such as adelaide proves that were taking steps in the right direction. that wouldve been an 80 pt drubbing in years gone by

One word; FITNESS!!

Ratts priority over summer was sharpening the players skills and implementing the gameplan. That came at the expense of developing the fitness base for the players. Next preseason expect to see a lot of endurance conditioning for the players.
