Now I don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves, but on the back of our two wins I've run my eye over what's left of our draw and noticed a few interesting things.

Here it is:

6 - Blues v Crows (MCG)
7 - WCE v Blues (Subi)
8 - Blues v Lions (TD)
9 - Blues v Freo (TD)
10 - Cats V Blues (TD)
11 - Port V Blues (AMMI)
12 - Pies v Blues (MCG)
13 - Blues v Dons (MCG)
14 - Tigers v Blues (MCG)
15 - Blues v Saints (MCG)
16 - Blues v Syd (TD)
17 - WB v Blues (TD)
18 - Crows v Blues (AMMI)
19 - Blues v Port (TD)
20 - Blues v Roos (TD)
21 - Lions v Blues (Gabba)
22 - Blues v Hawks (TD)

Things to note:

1. we only play the current top 4 - Geelong, Hawthorn, the Bulldogs and the Swans - once.

2. Of those, the games against the Cats and the Swans are both in Melbourne. Not that it is likely to make much difference against the Cats but you take the breaks you can get against a side like that.

3. We also only play the Roos (currently 6th) once.

4. We only play interstate 4 times, with the away games against WC, Port and even Brisbane all looking distinctly winnable for the first time in I can even recall.

5. We don't play the Hawks till round 22, so even if they were to crush us like a paper cup again, it won't happen mid season where it will derail any momentum we may have built up or be building.

6. We have a dream month of football at the MCG in the middle of the season where we will have the opportunity to reverse some of the disappointing results of the first 3 rounds where we were underdone.

Now obviously the ladder is hardly set in stone after a mere 5 rounds, but IMO there is enough exposed form now to conclude that the fixturing gods have smiled on us this season. It was a good draw to begin with, it's an even better one now that we know now good the Hawks and Dogs are, and how much WC and Port appear to have slipped. In fact the only way we could be better placed is if we played the Dees again but I guess you can't have everything.

If we can keep building on the good work of the last two weeks then the pack may well open up in the second half of the season and give us a sniff of finals.

Blues by 7 in a thriller this weekend to keep the ball rolling 8)

I mentioned this after the third round, we have a dream draw much better than any we have had for years.

The draw alone should account for an axtra 2 or 3 wins above what we would normally expect.

The next 4 weeks are very interesting I reckon. The Crows appears to be the hardest of the lot at this stage, & even that is winnable if we play like we did against Coll.

If we can hold the line against the Crows it could well be Blue skies ahead till round 10. Even the Cats would have to treat us with respect if we came into that game with 6 wins under our belts

I totally lied by the way. I do want to get ahead of ourselves. It's such a refreshing change from last year when I correctly tipped that we'd lose the last 11 games of the season.

Might be getting a bit ahead of ourselves here

But geez isn't nice to be able to discuss the thought of winning again it has been a long time coming

I was hoping we were going to beat Essendon* because I could see four in a row- but get over the crows this week and you just never know

I agree mjonc, I hope we win the next 4 but I think we will win 7 or 8 for the season.

I'd be rapped to win 3 of the next 6.

That would leave us 5-6 at the half way mark, with 3 very winnable games in the last 11, and the possibility of more if we're playing good footy.

And...all talk of tanking...gawn!

I really enjoy threads like this.

Thanks nightcrawler.

Worthwhile analysis. Thanks for sharing this.

I think we'll be up and down, but Ratts and the conditioning people seem to be mindful of when to thrash them at 'closed' training sessions and when to lighten it up, such as this week given it's a 6 day break.

Thank Christ there's a bit of science and professionalism supporting this young talented list.

We're going places crew....I feel it...and it feels all good.

FINALS are a comin'.

I think it's just you.
The Weagles will turn it on for Chris5 on their home ground in front of their rabid supporters. Don't reckon we can win that one.
The Lions are hot and cold. If they're hot on the day, look out. Don't reckon we can win that either.

I think 2 or 3 is more realistic. I can't see us beating both Brissy and Port.....

I'm 50/50 on Adelaide. We matched up well last year and if not for stamina and a bit of polish we should have done them. But they are such a well balanced and committed team that the game becomes a real prospect for seeing where we are at.

If we can withstand the Eagles initial onslaught I can't see why it's not a winnable game. They are really getting the jitters. The playing group look shell-shocked at the moment and the supporters are the biggest bleeding hearts in the comp. But you can never underestimate the home ground advantage in Perth.

Lions know how to hang on in a match which is why I reckon if we were playing them later in the year we'd be a better chance. We need to punish them on the scoreboard whilst getting in the way of J Brown at all costs.

6 - Blues v Crows (MCG) - 50/50
7 - WCE v Blues (Subi) - 50/50
8 - Blues v Lions (TD) - 50/50
9 - Blues v Freo (TD) - WIN
10 - Cats V Blues (TD) - LOSS
11 - Port V Blues (AMMI) - 50/50

Realistically, if you give us half of the 50/50's, we'll win around 3 out of the next 6 in my opinion.
