Saddington, Russell, Wiggins, Blackwell, Ackland all should go. They will not improve and have proved they are not going to make it full time. Austin, Benjamin, Jackson, Edwards all must be on thin ice.

They've been here all of two minutes and Edwards turns 21 next year.

Even Sporn, Wiggins, Prendergast and Livington managed to stay on the list for at least three years. We'd be drafting deep into the sixth of seventh round of the draft if we cut this many players.

Russell is worth persisting with.

Need a big year.

Jackson.
Ackland.
Blackwell.
Saddington.
Bentick.

Needs to get a game.

Aisake.

QFT

Drafted 5 months ago, emergency this week, and now on the chppoing block? I think not. Can we see him play first?

And love him or hate him, anyone who thinks Houlihan isn't in our best 36 is delusional.

Houlihan Ackland Saddington taking up too much cap space with consideration to their output ... GAWN IMHO.
I reckon if Swann has his way Fev GAWN also to allow money for another big trade.

Others continuing to display poor skills & intensity nearing the end of '08 will be on the chopping block also.

Fev and a pick for Brown

And this Judd character. Really think West Coast bent us over a barrel with that trade.

The sign of a good side (which we aren't) is that it can generally afford to cut kids who have been around a couple of years, but the club knows won't make it. We haven't really done this for some time and the side has been forced to carry players not up to senior level.

The good sides can often afford to keep senior players who aren't necessarily in the best 22, but are effective enough to play when injury/form gives them opportunities in the senior team - look at Geelong with Steven King (last year), David Johnson, Kane Tenace, Brent Prismall, Tom Lonergan etc. Not playing regular senior footy, but are kept on the list for "depth". All are capable at senior level and that is enough for them to stay.

Guys like Wiggins and Blackwell are good enough to play senior AFL footy. They are not perfect players, but would be capable senior footballers at a lot of clubs. I would like Blackwell, in particular, to stay after this year, but I suspect he won't.

Carlton has persisted with it's kids over the past few years longer than other clubs, because it has always had so much "dead wood" on the list to cut. Drafting is an inexact science, but at least one in two draftees don't make it. Despite this we gave Raso three years without a senior game, Edwards is on his third, Aisake his third (or fourth?) and Russell his fifth. That is not to bag these players as being undeserving on the list, but other clubs don't necessarily have this patience. None of these players have convinced that they are capable of long-term senior footy yet - certainly no more than Wiggins or Blackwell or even Saddington (who appears to be "dead man walking") for that matter.

When Carlton can afford to keep "fringe" players and choose to cut kids who aren't up to it, we are ready to improve. I am not critical of the club, as I think that they have had no choice, but I'd like to see some guys kept for depth. Arguably, Bannister fitted that criteria last year.

In terms of cutting at year's end, it is very early to judge, but "on the block" would be any 6 or so of:

Ackland (crowd favourite)
Blackwell (needs to play senior footy when he gets fit again)
Anderson (pretty unlikely to go, but possible)
Austin (can't be a project forever - He's really young and I hope he stays)
Bannister (reasonable start to the year, history shows inconsistency)
Benjamin (might be a long way from senior footy - interesting to watch)
Bentick (probably gone - great heart, but too slow and can't kick)
Cloke (if he has shoulder problems again, though I've loved his effort)
Edwards (depending on improvement - will probably stay)
Hartlett (I like him and want him to stay and play in the ones)
Jackson (depth in midfield may cost him if he can't find a role)
Aisake (project - if he's not playing senior footy, probably should be cut)
Setanta (unlikely, but he's 25 and I wonder how much better he will get)
Russell (prefer to persist with him, but he needs to improve rapidly)
Saddington (gone)

That's a lot of guys. There is also the possibility of trades of other players on the list, and this might save a few necks.

From Murph30

For Me I reckon!!!!

In terms of cutting at year's end, it is very early to judge, but "on the block" would be any 6 or so of:

Ackland (crowd favourite) GONE
Blackwell (needs to play senior footy when he gets fit again) GONE
Anderson (pretty unlikely to go, but possible) STAY WILL BE VERY GOOD
Austin (can't be a project forever - He's really young and I hope he stays)NOT SURE KP PLAYERS HARD TO COME BY.
Bannister (reasonable start to the year, history shows inconsistency) WILL STAY I BELIEVE WILL BE A VITAL MEMBER OF SUCCESSFUL TEAM
Benjamin (might be a long way from senior footy - interesting to watch) EXCITING BUT NOT UP TO IT FOR ME IN TROUBLE
Bentick (probably gone - great heart, but too slow and can't kick) WILL STAY OR TRADE
Cloke (if he has shoulder problems again, though I've loved his effort) WILL STAY AS BACKUP ESPECIALLY IF ACKLAND AND AISAKE GO
Edwards (depending on improvement - will probably stay) IN TROUBLE
Hartlett (I like him and want him to stay and play in the ones) WILL STAY
Jackson (depth in midfield may cost him if he can't find a role) WILL STAY
Aisake (project - if he's not playing senior footy, probably should be cut) GONE ATTITUDE AN ISSUE
Setanta (unlikely, but he's 25 and I wonder how much better he will get) IF DROPPED AGAIN I WILL SAY GONE
Russell (prefer to persist with him, but he needs to improve rapidly) STAY or TRADE TO SA
Saddington (gone) GONE
WIGGINS GONE

FOR ME THAT IS 7 DEFINITES! THATS ENOUGH. POSSIBLE JACOBS AND JAMISON TO BE ELEVATED AFTER TWO YEARS AS ROOKIES. OTHER ROOKIES (BAR POSSIBLY HILL) TO STAY ANOTHER YEAR ON ROOKIE LIST AS WE WILL STILL HAVE TO POSITIONS FOR NOMINATED ROOKIES.

MINIMUM 4 PICKS IN NATIONAL DRAFT AND ONE IN PSD.

The only ones I could guarantee are gone at this stage are Ackland, Saddington, Blackwell.

Those that will cause discussion amoungst the MC are Bentick, Wiggins, Aisake.

Any major injuries to Harts and Cloke could see them gone also.

Jacobs will be promoted to Senior List.

We've put alot of work into redeveloping his kicking style apparently, doubt we would delist him this early.

Benji was brought to the club as a project player by the previous coaching group. Ratten and Co will have to discuss whether he is worth persisting with or is there more value in recruiting someone else.

He is a long way off it at the moment.

Didn't play to badly today, got better as the game went on, more involved. Has alot of upside once he has a clear run injury free.

Did sound to be getting plenty of the ball towards the end and used it well.

Hope he can have a decent run in the Bullant seniors and stay injury free. It would be good if he could be a Wojinski type using his blistering pace through the middle.
