Yep - I heard from a very reliable source (one of the WAGS), that the boys were left to their own devices with regard to the recovery session the day after the win. This takes me back to my days in the amateurs and country footy. Now - i'm not saying 'our boys' aren't professional enough to do the right thing by their bodies and their employer...but I would've thought that with a new fitness staff, new players and only a month in to the season proper - there'd be a process and routine in place...round 20 I can understand - but after round 4?? Complacency.

Surely there was some consultation. Ratten mentioned this on FC and TBH i thought it was a good move, considering all the info they would have had drummed into them over the pre-season. Its part of their education in thinking about how to look after their body? Maybe im wrong.

I doubt the club would be taking shortcuts.

I agree, Ratts and the players have been adopting an education strategy that empowers the players to learn how to play the game, look after their body and how to help their team mates whilst still performing their role. Part of this is in field trips like the soccer and maybe the fitness staff gave the guy an oppertunity to do their own recovery work and monitor how they went about it. This way they can evaluate how much they have learnt and still be supervised so that if they didn't do some thing right they will be educated on how to improve.

Logic would say that it was a test of sorts to see how much the players have learnt, rather than the fitness staff couldn't be stuffed.

I'm so sick of Gaddy lyon. Everytime he talks to Fev, he acts all high and mighty as if Fev is his 4yo son "Has the penny dropped yet Fev" "Do you know what you can do on the football field if you knuckle down'
Piss off and worry about your pathetic players.

They don't get paid $60k+ to have the club wipe their arse for them... There would be a series of acceptable recovery activities. Either you do them or you don't. Turn up a bit ginger with soft-tissue soreness or feeling a bit stiff on Tuesday and your arse is grass.

The fitness staff are there to help the guys get to the next level - not maintain their mediocrity.

Fev did OK, but he does come across as a humourless prick when he interacts with Sam, he could stand to just laugh along and not take anything Sam does or says seriously.

His drawing of Garry Lyon was priceless though.

And if you're wise to his game you just laugh him off and he gets nowhere.

Pretty happy with his performance. Although agree that he could've done something other than looking like he wanted to smash Sam in the face in the early part. More manufactured agro?

Interesting that he 'outed' one of our fitness guys

I don't think it was agro at all. He just wanted to show to the public that he is taking it seriously.

Why would anyone laugh at anything Sam Newman does?

And why would anyone watch the Footy Show? :?

I thought it funny how he continued to interrupt Trevors joke...I mean everyone knows when Trev opens his mouth it's for a joke but Fev kinda interrupted him almost 3 times. :)

For me, I'd rather see our guys (especially Fev) stay away from the media and let the results do their talking.

Having been the laughing stock of the AFL for far too long, we can start regaining respect by our deeds on the footy field.

The Melbourne game will be a true test, in more than one way.
Somehow, going to night club after the Pies game, allowing players to do their own recovery and Fev breaking his silence....may seem like we're getting ahead of ourselves. Let's see how far we have really come after Sunday's game!

And thank God for that.

Seriously, does anyone actually think Marmalade is funny, or has been in the past 15 years?

His "off the cuff" cracks are anything but.

Nope.

About the recovery session. I think it is more about getting some responsibilty within the playing group, to find leaders and leave them to their own devices. When you are out on the footy field it is enitirely up to the group to stay focused because the coach can't control things so I think it's all about maturing the group and building leadership and responsibility.

Besides, don't you think they would have been waiting around to see what Juddy did, then all start doing that?
If they won't order lunch until they see what he's having, could you imagine anything training-related?

Agree. But we can do that after losses. After our first win, it's an opportunity to get together and see how winning teams recover. Observe Judd and Hadley who have played in premiership teams, so the kids can learn form the best, rather than try and do it themselves.

Our lack of leadership in recent years has left a gap in role models. Now we finally have some really good ones to learn from.

too true, also, how do you think juddy as captain would go if some of the younger blokes were pissfarting around at a recovery session?

dont wanna sound like BlueMel, but gees i love the bloke, how long have we been crying out for leadership for?
as much as i loved red(and i really do) - can you imagine the xample he would set left to his own devices (dont wanna make the KFC joke)

I've actually rated TFS quite highly the last few weeks. It's 1000% better without fat Ed and his Colonwood/info-mercial format.

Sam has become more of the Loui Richards dithering old fool which is funny to watch.

I pissed myself with Sam doing the 1300 UGANDA bit. Very funny.

Fev's a big boy, people should stop being so precious about what they do and say to him. It's all in a bit of fun.

Trev has a funny comment about 1 in 20. It['s not a great strike rate, but the good ones are usually about Collingwood so it's worth the wait.
