between 2011-2013 we'll snag a cup or 2.

we are not collingwood and we are not stkilda. we're the blues and when we peak we take cups. history has shown this and no reason to believe otherwise.

the players walk into the club and see pictures of cups and flags and legends of the game. at stkilda they see pics of 1 cup and enough wooden spoons that could be recycled to build the framework for their new cubby house in frankston or wherever the hell they going

At work today, I stood between an Essenscum supporter and a Filth follower and declared, "The Baggers will win a flag before both of you- and don't I love it!" The Essenscum tried to argue but the look in their eyes revealed to all and sundry: FEAR! Mark my words, we are slowly coming back! 8)

There have been some very low times over the past 5 years and some very depressed Carlton people.

But Ive never lost faith.

In 2001, as well as the disaster of the past 5 years, I also saw a flag won by a young Carlton side quite early into a rebuilding cycle.

This premiership is to be one of the most glorious in our wonderful history.

It will be won from a low position in the final eight during a team building year.

Piece by piece, the puzzle has fallen into place and now I do believe that we have commenced the final ascent to the 17th flag.

Theres still a bit to go, and there will be a few slips along the way - but the destination is clearly visible.

Because of where we have come from this time, this cup will be a very emotional one for many Blues fans.

It will be remembered for ever in our clubs history as the 'under the radar' flag....because this is the way in which we will win it...

After 14 straight loses and 24 successive 100 points (or greater) kicked against us we may have just bottomed out. The only way now is up .... slowly but up.

I'm with you Blueman.

The front runners

Hawks
Cats
Doggies

The contenders

Swans
Port
Saints
Crows
Lions

They're all ahead of us atm (round 4) in many ways; and for good reason.

We are the youngest list with the greatest potential.

I will not be surprised if we start to climb the ladder in the second half of the year. I'm expecting competition for positions which will lead to players lifting the bar and showing some consistency week in week out.

Stevens, Judd, Setanta and Hadley should be in tip top shape over the next month; cheery ripe to lead the way, and better than they have thus far in season 2008.

I believe every player can see where Carlton is going and will lift to ensure they have a seat on our list for the 2009 assault.

I believe we will snag at least one star recruit in this year's trade, and another quality selection.

The next preseason will do wonders for everyone completing a full preseason program under Cordy's direction. We will notice significant improvement in skill, size and strength in Hampson, Kreuzer, Aisake, Setanta, Anderson, Armfield, Browne, Jamison, Bower, Gibbs, Murphy, Walker,Grigg, Betts, Pfieffer and Austin.

2009 I expect to pass the contenders. We may surprise the front runners.

I'm with you blueman.

Even when we were at our worst we still manage two pre-season flags. They only give out two flags a year and we keep picking up at least one of them fairly regularly. No reason to think that it won't be any different with the "right" one of them in a couple of years.

Guys, I would so love to believe you are right but culture has been by the AFLs new system called "it's your turn to win a flag" socialism. Let the have-nots have a flag and screw the footballing rich. Witness the corrupt AFL Greg Williams 9 week suspension, the draconian salary cap penalties we incurred and compare it to how Bazza Hall got off the striking charge (I like the Swannies but if that was Rocca on GF eve what would have happened I wonder?) and more recently how Richmond have not been penalised for using dodgy real estate transactions to circumvent the cap.

The Swans had a culture of being flogged for fifty years and the Cats had a culture of wearig skirts and handbags. Both cultures gone and replaced by AFL pandering. I fear Footscray and everyone else who hasn't one a flag for years to win one before us. From now on it will be a one flag every 16 years for each side. Flower me it sucks Demitspew rectum.

Call me delusional if you like, but I just put $30 (41:1) on the Blues to make this years Grand Final.

What's $30 worth anyway, and besides, I would be kicking myself if they did make the final and I didn't have a nice wager on them.

I reckon they can make the 8 this year, and if they do, who knows?

That comes from only winning 1 premiership in 50 Seasons - thats 50 seasons of heartache for these Neanderthals.

So despite the fact that he has an IQ of somewhere between 1 and 10 - I know what he is saying is true. 8)

I never really cared what others thought, even during the darkest of times.

All I know is what I see Carlton becoming.

Nice one, Tommi.
Reminds me of many years ago (88 ish when SOS took THAT mark and almost broke his neck) at a Collingwood game (we lost) when a bloke near me was sticking it up us. I loudly said to my mate,
"Trouble with being a Collingwood supporter's son, is that when you ask your father what it is like to win a premiership, he has to tell you to ask your grandfather."
It shut him up for a few seconds only but it did make a few around me laugh.
