As an aside I find it impossible to watch a Carlton game without emotion. I find it impossible to read TC Pro & Con threads without emotion!

At times like this I think of how nice and cosy life as a Freo fan must be, a club you need not get excited, passionate or in the least bit emotional whilst following on TV or at the game.

I honestly don't make any comparisons between this team and Pagan's reign - everything is so different now I don't see the point.

Punter, I think you make a good point. While most of the playing group are the same people the entire club structure from coaching to revenue raising has been changed it seems.

Somene else mentioned this losing streak is an unfair comparision as the 2008 team are not the ones who lost in 2007.

Are we comparing apples with oranges? Image

Exactly.

Interesting that Wallace has put the heat on some of his senior players today.

Time to ramp it up, Ratts (especially if we struggle against the Flith).

Lastly, as the guys get more familiar with each other and the game plan, things will click. Right now we hold the ball up too much and don't run and handball enough. Our kick to handball ration is still too high. But that will come with familiarity and confidence in each other and the game plan itself. Patience people. I know its tough because we all want instant gratification and instant results. But thats not how it works when your building a team that can sustain long term success. Just enjoy the little bits of improvement and the scoreboard results will take care of themselves. I would be more than happy to see only 6-8 victories as long as we keep seeing improvements in the areas that are more important for the long term.

Well T Dog how relevant your post has now become after yesterday's win. I'm not suggesting its all turned for us now but your comments are so valid. Great post

Emotion aside, I think yesterday was EXACTLY what we've been screaming for. Quick ball movement, sharp low passes to Fev (as opposed to bombing it to his head) and actually not coughing the ball up when slowing it down.

The only problem that remained was that we still gave up some cheap goals. In fact, nearly all their goals were cheap. We deserved to win by at least 7 goals instead of 4.

Without emotion???

I'll try, got home from game at 4.30am. Had to celebrate. For me best win since 99 Prelim. The atmosphere at the G was amazing!!!!!!

Have watched replay to refresh memory and my observations.

Murphy & Gibbs workrate is amazing for some so young. Gibbs after 2 clangers early didn't drop head and his tackling and chasing is a feature.

Kruezer is easily the most mobile ruckman I have seen. His ability to read the play and chop off any cwood forward thrust was impressive from one so young.

Simpson, great to see back on wing and playing well, helped out defence to great effect.

Judd, when we needed him in last qtr he stood up and the others followed.

Fev was awesome, please stay off "P155" and stop looking at big screen.

Hadley in middle was great, could be recruit of year.

Cloke was great in his efforts, concern is against quality ruckman but cannot doubt his heart.

Waite and Bower were awesome, was worried when I saw Bower take Cloke but was disciplined and won the battle. Both still need to work on disposal.

Jamison was all class, reminds me of M.Sexton.

Fisher was good but is a liability at times when ball hits ground.

Betts needs to keep working, was tagged heavilyand found attention hard.

Setanta looks lost up forward, worked hard but just seemed to be in wrong position a lot. I like the idea of another tall to assist Fevola but for me he is not it. Would prefer to see Hartlett or Kruezer take that role. Would of liked to see him swap with Waite but I can see why he wasn't.

Grigg & Pfieffer showed glimpses of being players, need more time and need to be perservered with. DO NOT bring back Houlihan!!! These guys are the future.

I am a Bannister fan, does a job every week and is hard, adds another dimension to side which we need.

Stevens to me is a worry. No one doubts his ability when he has the ball but he cannot or doesn't want to tackle. The amount of times he had a chance to lay a tackle and pulled out was disappointing. His report was an example of that, he needs to learn to how to wrap up a player. To me when the others mature he will become a bit player. The game is becoming to professional to get away with what he does.

Scotland was okay but feel he will be pushed out by youngsters in near future.

Russell is a worry, would love to see him do so well as he tries so hard but after wathcing him closely I have doubts.

Team really worked hard in 'Red' time to slow play and maintain possession. Reason we kept them under 100pts.

All in all a reward for hard work and persistence. With Hampson, Walker to come back in and with Browne, Armfield, Anderson etc pushing for selection their is genuinie optimism for the future. I hope we keep introducing kids over the season and get games into them, the sooner we can get more kids to support Murph, Gibbs, Kruezer the better.

Also, Pratt please stay.

Their will be ups and downs but for the first time in a long while I believe we are now genuially on the way up!!

GO BLUES!!!!

Back from a 2 week holiday... gee how things can turn around in two weeks. After the Essendon* game I knew we weren't far off from stringing some good footy together. Its not all doom and gloom. Sometimes it just takes observing the team you love without the emotion to realise it.

Yeah, luckily it took only 1 - 1.5 quarters of good footy to win it...

Haven't been posting since I wrote this thread... and I gota say 6-3 since ... proves I wasn't that far off. Dboy you're one of my fav posters, but reading your pessimistic 10 weeks ago was breaking my heart. You're usually the one that keeps our spirits up!

We looked the goods against Essendon* and Richmond but just didnt quite have the fitness and the structure to go all the way. Now is a different story. We have the fitness and the belief... matched with a fair compliment of awesome players. Up and up from here on in... I think 10+ wins is on the cards. And geez its great to finally stop reading the crap from Obama & Gav about tanking

I am also going to go on record as saying I now think Dale Thomas was a better pickup than Murphy. Murphy is a great, solid, thinking player, very workmanlike and makes not too many mistakes but to me, Thomas is more of a matchwinner. Faster, tackles at least as well and plays with more flair. At the time I thought we should have selected Nathan Jones by the way so I am only looking in hindsight.

Thomas is a show pony - he certainly isn't a match winner

Surely that was a joke of some sort Blue Sombrero.... you cant be serious.
Where has Thomas been when the Pies need him in a close game?? He is too worried about being in the square taking hangers or over celebrating after kicking a goal.
Im rapt with Murph... he is playing superb footy and he is miles ahead of Krusty the clown Thomas

To BS's defence I believe that post was written on "Free Carono Day" in Mexico. At least he was right about Wiggo! That goal on Sunday nailed the game for us I reckon
