The positive news from Ratten this week is that Fevola is a required player.

The flamboyant Blue, who is in the final year of his contract, has been warned that another alcohol-related incident off-field would mean immediate dismissal.

Ratten admitted the sacking of Fevola after his latest misadventure was one of several options considered by himself, chief executive Greg Swann and the leadership group.

Fevola was fined, started alcohol counselling and played the next week.

"We said let's throw all the options out there," Ratten said, when asked if Fevola's sacking was discussed.

"We went through the whole box and dice about what the outcomes could be and then said, 'what's the best solution for Brendan and the football club going forward?' "

He said he wanted Fevola to play next year.

"He is an outstanding talent and what he's done for me since I've taken over is not put a foot wrong, bar that incident," he said. "I'd be pretty confident to say he'll be here next year.

"I would have a big say in where we go (with Fevola), the board may have an opinion, but I will fight for what I believe is right for this footy club."

not sure if everyone seen this the hearld sun by Mark Robinson..

to me if rattern has anything to do with fevs contract we will still see fev in 2009....

i really think we as supporters should be getting behind our players even fev instead of thinking lets trade some in the 08 trade week..

lcheers

I love Fev.................. He bleeds for this club.

I honestly believe he will go down in history as one of the true Navy Blue greats by the end of his career.

Sure................. he's a flower............... even HE knows that.

But he's just such an amazing footballer and i'd rather him on our side than anybody else's.

Presumptious of me to not assume that this topic has been raised before ?

Dont mean to stir the pot at all, but i guess already we have seen the best and worst of Fev already after only 3 rounds in.
No doubt he was scintillating last week, but as someone alluded to "great" players do that week in week out, Fev doesnt.
There is no definitive answer to all of this naturally, so much will depend on what transpires in the next 19 weeks. Not only for him but the entire team, guess were all just impatient as hell and sick of the tripe that has been served up over past few years.
Im like everybody else on here, probably sick to the back teeth of everyone slagging off at CFC.

Think some of you are shooting a bit low on his trade-ability though.
There aint too many blokes running around these days who can still kick 80 goals per year in todays game.
Had to giggle at someone's suggestion of swapping him for Jonathon Brown. Would that include our top pick for the next 17 years too ?

Stuff it, hope he kicks 9 this week and belts Didak for good measure !!

How many flags did we win WITHOUT a recognized FF?

Kreuzer can kick goals, so can Murphy, Stevens, Gibbs, Simmo, Hampson, Betts, OhAilpin, Hadley, Pfieffer, Fisher, Waite. Then there's a bloke called Judd - Fev ain't the only option.
Every club has their loose cannons. Find me one of those that'll kick 80 goals and with half the opposition's defender marking him. We don't want stop gaps, rarely works. I'm sure you know that, once you stop defending your position on the subject. Opposition will work that out in no time. It's not just about having someone who'll kick a few. The gun forward is a big central go-to specialist target. A couple we may have out of that group fit the bill except they're required elsewhere where we have weaknesses. Remember KP's all the way down the spine are a problem for us except for Fev.And I'm sure we don't want to continually use Kreuzer in such position throughout his career,. I'm sure we have hi9m planned for other roles. If we we stock with KP forwards like Hawthorn and St.Kilda, maybe think about a trade, but not at Carlton.

We're dreaming too if we think Brown will leave Brisbane. Theoretically, if he did, I find another way of getting him so we'd have 2 gun KP players up forward. Imagine th salary cap would be a problem though with Judd there too.
